Golden Globes 21013 Recap

January 17, 2013 By kimwheeler No Comments

Here’s bit of fashion junk food to get you through Friday.. I can’t resist hashing over red carpet fashions can you? The Golden Globes are one of my favorites to watch. Despite a crazy week of school activities I’m getting this out to you, albeit a day late and a bit thrown together, ( I am having serious issues with my fonts staying uniform) but let’s at it..

I’m loving the non fussy right now. Ann Hathaway won me with her elegant and simple look. Anne is the modern day Audrey Hepburn to me in her Chanel worn plain and unadorned.

In her coat at an after party. This girl has great taste.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors was just fresh and pretty.

Kerry Washington was another favorite. Love her dress, hair, everything.

Sally Field looked beautiful. Love that she still looks like herself and not a scary plumped up version.

Carla Gugino was fabulous. She shows how to dress over 40 that’s neither frumpy nor too revealing.

Jennifer Garner brought it!  You go girl! I love that this is so her and not overly-styled.

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford…Gold and black accessories- swoon!

Jennifer Lawrence’s gown embodied old school Dior. I liked that it was different. Strapless is really getting to become a bore…Everyone looks like they are off to the prom. This had a little edge.

Jessica Chastain got mixed reviews, but I loved the old Hollywood glamour of this and her hair. Think Katherine Hepburn folks. She took a chance and the icy blue was gorgeous with her coloring.

Marion Cotillard. The color alone makes me love this modern dress. The straight hair back just worked with this so well.

How great was this look on Kate Hudson? It was very California golden girl which is so her.

Loved Jessica Alba’s dress color. It’s a lot with the hair and huge necklace..Maybe her hair back or a simpler jewelry would have looked less expected more modern.

George and Stacey Keibler.. She looked terrific. I like her natural look.  He just gets better with age. Damn men!

I don’t care what anyone says about her, I adore Helena Bonham Carter’s strict adherence to her crazy look. The addition of the Lulu Guinness lip clutch was perfect!

Amanda Seyfried was lovely and natural, if a bit bland. I would have thought a bright lip or a pop of color would prevent her from being a washout here.

Helen Mirren was looking totally hot and in amazing shape.

Rachel Weisz no doubt had the best date. The jury is out on this dress… Not sure I’m loving it and it was a bit long. And Mr Craig, please, this isn’t a Bond movie.

I like that Nicole Ritchey went blue.

Taylor Swift’s Donna Karan gown was stunning. The color was the prettiest plum.

I’m not so sure about…

Julianna Margulies what can I say? It had a very bare back, but from the front and with the severe hair not so great.

Adele is one beautiful girl. Who dressed her in this? She is way too young to be wearing this matronly getup…Not a fan of the hair either.

Lena Dunham looks stuck in a bad bridesmaid dress. The unfortunate reality about tattoos is that they just don’t ever look nice with dressy clothes.

Eva Longoria just looks too artificial and this whole ensemble just makes her look old….and dare I say desperate? 😛

Wow, I don’t know what to say about this. All too much really. I think J.Lo always nails it when she goes sleek. So not.

Jodie Foster looks so terrific, but girls with broad shoulders and shorter hair should not wear this neckline…It makes you look broader than you are. As one with broad shoulders, I know.  I love that he always wears Armani though. She could use a bit more length on the hair..

Dear Halle Berry, you don’t need bare hips and skin at every event. We all know she has an amazing body..I would like to see her get a bit more chic and less on the prowl… The hair needs a change too. Hasn’t she has that spiky look forever?  If she’s not careful she’ll start to look like those ladies of a certain age from the Chico’s catalog.

Alyssa Milano was possibly trying to channel the bright colors of Leslie Mann’s citrus and turquoise look from last Oscars, but this was not flattering. I give her points for a cool clutch though.

Well, let’s end on an upbeat note and take a glance at the best beauty..

Love Kerry’s hair and soft makeup.

Nicole Kidman’s new shorter hair looked great. I’ll overlook the extreme botox.

Claire Danes had a bit more makeup on and I liked that she went a bit sexy after just having given birth one month ago.

Emily Blunt’s soft makeup was flawless.

Michelle Dockery is so gorgeous..I didn’t notice how pretty her brown eyes are on Downton Abbey.  Her messy bob is modern and flattering.
Okay let’s hear what your take was…Who did you love or hate?
And don’t forget there’s just a few days left to enter my contest to win either the Bobbi Brown or Bazaar book! You can do so by following this blog on the left, following on Pinterest or Facebook. Each one you do gives you another entry, so leave me a note on the comments of which you have done! I’ll announce the two winners at the end of the weekend!
Good Luck!
Kim

Do you wear red? ❤️How do you feel about addin Do you wear red? ❤️How do you feel about adding more to your look? Are you partial to certain tones like poppy or burgundies? It’s a great time of year to pull those red ( and dark pink) pieces out of the closet and have some fun.

This quick clip is to share more about what’s happening tomorrow for this month’s Signature Style with Cindy and I and of course we are talking all about red.

I’ve had fun gathering red pieces in my closet and seeing how I can make my everyday pieces pop a little more with the addition of some red accessories.

On the blog, I’ll have more ideas for you like styling red with other colors, and how to wear red like a French person ! I’ll also have some great red items I love if you need a chic accent piece for your wardrobe. Don’t forget to check @cindyhattersley and my @northerncalstyle posts tomorrow! 💗❤️

Spring has sprung in San Francisco with the plum t Spring has sprung in San Francisco with the plum trees blossoming in the Parnassus Heights neighborhood. We did another fun walk through SF yesterday starting in Cole Valley and walking up to the Mt Sutro Forest that borders this beautiful area and winds back around through Twin Peaks.

I loved that the city was giving off early spring vibes even though it was a bit drizzly and windy. Before the walk, we had the best brunch with Jackson and girlfriend Kristin who is on a short break from school.

On this reel you’ll notice all styles of homes. There are colorful homes like the blue one with its matching kayak and the cottages mixed with the sleek new builds. The road we walked up to Sutro Forest is all brick in the center, and at the top of the stairs sits a cottage where the French Consulate General lives. It’s a small cottage with a top of the world view.

I will share all the details for this hike, and all the stairs and little parks with views that dot this area on the weekend blog…It’s a great time of year to explore the city and get your steps in. Of course I can’t resist sharing all the pretty houses on the hike as well!

The weekend post is up with chat about the trendin The weekend post is up with chat about the trending colors for 2023 in home decor and fashion.. Did you love the 80’s? If so this is perhaps a more sophisticated version with sherbet tones and bits of magenta, greens and navy. Here I added a bit of these Easter tones to the coffee table with a grass cloth box, one of my books and a candle. I think the best way to update things is to add touches to the home and closet that appeal to you and mix them in with neutrals..
What do you think of these colors? I think they’re fun. Some clothing pieces bring me back to my Esprit loving days. It could be fun to add a shirt, shoe or bag in these tones and I selected a handful to consider..

Also on the blog, a few good white jeans, skin cleansers you may need and more!

A January PSA- get in your closet and get those wh A January PSA- get in your closet and get those white jeans out! I found mine at the bottom of my closet today in a basket and thought -yes! I love the look of a classic white jean, paired with a chunky sweater or turtleneck in black, beige, tan, creams- neutral colors always look fantastic. Today it was warm enough that I could go sockless and wear my Madewell loafers with them and a little jacket I have from Anthro. Get your white jeans out. it will give your winter wardrobe have a little kick. White jeans can be worn all year and they even look great with winter boots and coats.

This is also a great time to look at your white Jean inventory. 🤍If you don’t have a pair that’s comfortable and straight leg, in a thicker material…this might be a good time to look. I’ll share some on the weekend blog as well.

if you missed our LIVE this morning, you can watch it on Juliet’s @makemineaspritzer Instagram and I’ll link to it on my stories ! Sunday beach trip… We made it to Santa Cruz to c Sunday beach trip… We made it to Santa Cruz to check out the coast after these rough last weeks. Aptos looks pretty good and poor Seacliff is terribly battered. So sad to see what people have lost. My heart goes out to them.

We had the beach to ourselves and the weather was winter perfect. ☀️Cold and sunny. We had a picnic of sandwiches from Zoccolis deli and took in the sun and sea air while watching surfers and birds.

This song just seemed to fit -and relatable as I could not sleep last night! No idea why. Isn’t it maddening?

Hope you get a chance to take a winter beach walk.. They are the best.
