Little White Dresses and Summer Things…

May 23, 2015 By kimwheeler No Comments

Memorial weekend is here and I can hardly believe it. That means summer is..now!? It doesn’t feel like it yet to me.  We’ve finally been having some cool and rainy spring weather here in Northern Cal and I am loving it after a very warm early part of the year. I’ve been busy with a few projects- one helping clean out my 98 year old grandma’s house, and also having to remove a huge tree from my home. More on all that soon… Also planning a trip to NYC so if anyone has any favorite spots..please share!

Today I wanted to write a little about shopping. I have had no time, but have added a few summer  things! Somehow I managed to buy 3 white dresses in the past month.  I just realized how flattering white can be and also how easy dresses are, especially for travel and on warm days.
Little white dresses have been big lately. I am liking the shirtdress versions…and the eyelet and lace looks.
Here’s a few of my favorites.
The shirtdress…
Cute how this was styled with the vest and black shoes.

Equipment makes a washed silk shirtdress with the longer back hem. Love Equipment’s silk.
Note: a shirtdress dress has to be the right length for you, or you risk the lost your bottoms look!

This Alexander Wang is marked down right now at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale. They didn’t style it so great here, but I could see it with a sweater wrapped around the waist, a straw tote and a white sneakers or colorful Vans.
Another option is this Current-Elliot long shirtdress. I’d add a long necklace, white panama hat, (like these from my favorite Napa store Montecristi) and tan lace up sandals.
White lace is everywhere right now and this combo shirtdress and lace is beautiful.

This is Chloe, of course! So gorgeous…and expensive…
The lace mini-dress is at Net-a- Porter for around $4,350!
Some alternatives…
This is a See by Chloe, it’s lower priced line, T dress in broderie anglaise at Net-a-Porter.
Here’s another option at Nordstrom. Doesn’t this look easy? This Frame Denim  ‘Le Boyfriend ‘ T-shirt lace dress is supposed to mimic a guy’s white T. Looks like an easy summer dress that would be cool and not tight, but still feminine.

This  version is by Laundry! A dressier look and it’s slightly off white which is flattering on most.
Zara makes their version of a lace coat. Would be cute with a white tank, jeans and pretty sandals or worn as a dress like the Chloe version. There’s also Trina Turk’s version of the California Lace dress here, which I have tried, and loved, so comfy too, on sale now!

I also am crazy for the semi-sheer look like this stripe.

Love this Vince top and skirt combo.. The back of the shirt is the same material as the skirt.

A little pricier, but two pieces you could wear a lot and I adore the casual chic of this so Californian!

Another sheer striped white I found…

This J Crew version is fun, looks flattering and is 30% off now with the code WEEKEND.

 So is this eyelet shift..

I adore the detail on the hem and sleeves!
This similar  chevron pleated one is on sale too…

With all the sales this might be the best weekend to find a little white dress for your summer.

The addition of a chic flat and you are set…

I’m kind of in love with these Sam Edelman’s and they got a great rating for comfort too, so I might take the plunge. They would be something different with dresses and jeans!

I try to buy myself at least one new pair of flat sandals a season. They really do tend to last me years. So far I grabbed these little Cypress slides at the J Crew sale for my suitcase. They are light and might be cute for out to dinner..

I think a light pink pedicure is perfect too…

Yummy Mummy by Butter fits the bill for summer.  Light pinks looks so clean and fresh.

Happy weekend everyone!
Enjoy the three days off!

I have a T dress in broderie anglaise ( i bought it at Monsoon UK the last year).
The white dress is like the black dress, you need to have one in your wardrobe.
    Have a great week end.

You look so cute and i have to say I do think there is a type for white dresses – not everyone suits them – only way I would ever wear one is with a tan and the weather here rarely give me the chance so it's not something I shop for unfortunately! x

Do you still wear the Steve Madden tan studded sandals? I just came across them & thinking of purchasing. Are they comfy? Thanks.

Dear Sioux yes! I am still wearing them and they are probably the most comfortable sandals I have as they are the perfect height, not too flat, easy to wear and go with a lot! Thanks for visiting!

Love all the white dresses you posted, especially the Trina Turk one you tried on. I wish I looked good in white but it washes out my complexion too much so I have to stick to off white. :/

I love the white lace dress you found Kim and I know what you mean about the shirt dresses – they are so stylish right now so I'll definitely keep my eye out! 🙂 Also, how exciting you're planning a trip to NYC, I wish I could make a recommendation but I've only been twice so I'm no expert. Good luck with the house cleaning with your grandma and the tree! That does sound like quite a project. Hope you have a great weekend …

Here we are again. More families destroyed by the Here we are again. More families destroyed by the inability of our nation to take a stand against the gun lobby, manufacturers and politicians supporting them. Little children and their teachers gone. I don’t want to hear about freedoms.. Those are faux freedoms gun culture enables.

What about the freedom to go to school and feel safe without being gunned down? The freedom to go to the grocery store, the movies, a festival or a concert, a nightclub without fear of being killed? We all are in danger in all places. States with strong gun laws are at the mercy of the states with the weakest laws, as we have no walls between us.

We don’t need to live this way. We just need to get together and stop the madness. NO OTHER first world nation lives lives this way with guns and weapons meant for war, easily had by anyone who wants them. People are afraid to vacation here. It’s only a matter of time before every one of us is touched by this unrestricted gun culture. Let’s stop being complacent. We must absolutely demand our politicians use their power to change this. The Tennessee Representative for this district sent out a holiday card with his family holding automatic weapons…like it’s some kind of joke. These are children’s lives. And what about those who are left behind losing a loved one or experiencing this horror and surviving?

I love this country and I really want change.

Well after all this weather, and so much indoor ti Well after all this weather, and so much indoor time, I’m officially sick of everything and I am ready to give the home a little refresh. Homegoods and TJMaxx have some great spring items and a promotion with items from France, Italy, etc. They can be a good source for outdoor pots, new pillows, rugs and decorative bits. It’s good time to find a ‘few’ emphasis on few, new things for the home. They carry unique items, many one offs, but you have to be a discerning shopper.. What to look for and what to avoid on this little clip.

I’ll be taking more about how to shop smart at these sort of places on the upcoming blog as well. What’s been your experience at these stores? I have had good luck and bad and I think you have to be smart about what you choose and don’t fill a home with these things.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on shopping there. More tips from my last trip there on stories and saved on shopping tips.

I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room today as my builder @mikemccloudconstruction shared it too. I still love the way it came out! I had saved many inspiration pictures of how I wanted this to look. I was lucky Mike helped me make this happen. A good builder who listens and has ideas as well, helps so much. I’m sharing some of the extra details up close.

I loved this blue sort of organic watery tile for a pool bath. I also knew I wanted an open shelf for all the pool towels so people could grab them on the way out the door. The @serenaandlily mirror definitely has that nautical almost porthole, sort of look and picked up the unfinished oak color. I used an RH pendant light and the sink is Victoria and Albert. The counter is from a slab of @vadaraquartz that I spilt and used in the laundry as well as the boy’s bath. I choose an inexpensive cement tile for this space and the connecting laundry/mud room which works with drippy pool feet! It’s been almost four years and all still looking great!

DM me if anyone wants details I left out! I thought I did a post on this, but maybe not! I need to do that with all the baths.

Hope you all have a good week and get some nature in the first day of spring!

We went in the beginning part of the tournament which we always do, and got to see Andy Murray, Sabalenka, Zverev, Raducanu, and so many fantastic other players. We basically eat, slept and breathe tennis for two days straight and we loved it! You can still catch play on the @tennischannel 🎾

I will share another Reel of all the stylish people.. Something about tennis brings out the sharpest dressers and there was excellent people watching.

I separated the sectional and sort of like it apar I separated the sectional and sort of like it apart. This RH couch is a LOT of maintenance and can look pretty deflated after a weekend of hanging out. In hindsight, I’d buy a couch that does not require so much fluffing and cushion alternating. I snapped this pic because it was one of the times I had the pillows looking nice on it. You also need a lot of pillows to not get swallowed up by it. I call it the great white.

The local RH actually has a cleaning team that steams and fluffs their couch and I’ve seen them before the shop opens. I found it hard to get reviews on this couch before buying because RH does not have them online and if you notice they don’t do social media… so I’m just putting it out there. I will share what I love here, but I think it helps to be transparent about what is a disappointment too.
