It’s Labor Day weekend, our last hurrah before sweaters, crunchy leaves and don’t even mention the pumpkin lattes like my sons have been doing! Let’s keep the summer mindset people- at least for the next three days!!
I made this collage of some of my favorite summer images. I think I’m sad because summer means leisure time to me and I don’t want it to go!
In that spirit, let us not speak of fall right now and squeeze a bit more summer in shall we??
This is my 50th birthday weekend. I was actually born on Labor Day! Funny isn’t it? (My poor mom wasn’t relaxing, but in a hospital having me in 1965!)
I’m staying in town this weekend and doing a few things close to home. I’ve kicked off the birthday weekend with a trip to a local winery yesterday for a picnic with the hubs who took the day off to hang with me. Picchetti Winery is located on near the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve and you can combine a hike in this beautiful area and end it with wine tasting and a picnic lunch on their pretty grounds. I think Picchetti is a gem and their wines are truly some of the finest I’ve ever had.
Max and I shared our picnic with peacocks and a few roosters who free-range here. The setting is pure California with golden rolling hills, barns, and fruit trees dotting the surrounding trails! A terrific day trip if you want to stay close to home, but want to fully enjoy the last weekend of summer. I recommend the Pavone (Italian for peacock) white wine, the Rose and the Petite Sirah. When I visit places like Picchetti I realize how spoiled we Northern Californians are for beautiful destinations and amazing wines.

Loved this sweet and simple wedding of Chloe Malle in Provence on Vogue today. Her mom Candice Bergen had a little hand in planning the darling details. such as these special espadrilles for everyone.
Sandy, from You May Be Wandering has a good post on the perfect carry-on bag. I am hoping to get a new one as I am planning a getaway later this month.
Tamera Beardsley is my go to for beautiful home styling and has some tips to make the home pretty with natural elements that fit this end of summer time of year! ( No leaves and pinecones yet people!)
Naomi of Coulda Shoulda Woulda wrote a fun piece on buying a French Chateau and why there is so many on the market. Who doesn’t fantasize about this?
The ultimate city girls’ guide to camping is on Tiffany’s Sunshine Daydream blog this week. She not only has destinations, but some yummy camp meals to cook too. I love her photography so much it’s always an escape just to visit her beautiful blog!
Dale of Savvy Spice is a new mama and has this terrific article about surviving vacations with a newborn! Looks like Dale’s doing a great job so far.
For a lot more thought on the end of summer Heather of StyleMindChic and Jennifer of A Well Styled Life are having their Friday Lifestyle Linkup with lots of fun blog posts to check out.
Lastly, this fun post from Ellie of Have Some Decorum reminds us of the sheer joy of summer popsicles as kids and has some artsy adult versions to try if you are entertaining.

P.S. You do NOT look 50…AT ALL. 😉
I wish you " un joyeux anniversaire ", I hope this day was a great Bday for you !!!! I read Naomi's post on buying a French Château…many owners must sell to pay estate expenses… Anyway it's not easy to buy and to sell a home in a foreign country. Enjoy your trip to San Francisco.
A bientôt,

Anne-Laure, Merci-beaucoup! So that is why there are so many estates to be had! I can imagine how they can be cumbersome and it is hard to manage an old estate..One must need a ton of money!! xo

I must sy not that we ever have a hot summer but there have been worse yet today the heating came on of its own accord. It is getting darker earlier – over here the lack of daylight is our biggest turn rather than temperature…
I wish you all the best and fun for your 50's again Kim xx
