Meeting Tish Jett in Los Gatos.. and Secrets of A Femme D’Un Certain Age!

November 10, 2015 By kimwheeler No Comments

Last week there was a fun little event in my town of Los Gatos. The pretty home store Bianco hosted French blogger and author, Tish Jett. She was here on her only California stop to sign her book, Forever Chic.

As luck would have it my pals Elizabeth of The Vintage Contessa and Jennifer of A Well Styled Life, informed me this was happening…In my own town! I didn’t have a clue. We met up for lunch as well as this was a bit of a trek for the Contessa who resides in Orinda and Jennifer who lives in the East Bay. We didn’t know Lisa of Amid Privilege, and Susan of Une Femme D’un Certain Age, were going to be there too. Really fun to meet these lovely bloggers as well! Wish we had a photo of us all.

 The Contessa and Jennifer.

Of course we were all over the moon meeting Tish who did not disappoint. Tish is an American writer who moved to France for a job, fell in love and never came back. She writes about her life as woman in France and the unique mindset of women there. She’s as chic and witty as she sounds on her blog and so gracious. I adore her blog and point of view. Her book, which is very much an extension of her blog, shares the French sensibility that aging is something to be celebrated and the mature woman or A Femme D’un Certain Age, as her blog is titled, have a huge appeal in France. Quite the opposite of how we feel here in the states. If you met Tish you’d think she knows the secret of this appeal. She just glowed and looked pretty, all in black. It’s hard to tell her age. She’s chic yet very natural.

Contessa and her stylish friend Leslie waiting to get books signed.

Jennifer and I.
Look at the decor at Bianco…
Gorgeous store isn’t it?

Contessa fit in well here!

So far I am loving all the skin and makeup advice in this book. Though I read a lot of this kind of stuff, Tish’s secrets from French dermatologists are great as are her own tips. Unlike the other books about French women, it’s geared to those over 30 and has straight up truths from a woman who lives there.
Tish’s book has been well reviewed and I particularly like this one which I think describes it well..
“Forever Chic is more than tips and tricks on being our better physical and stylish selves—it is full of lessons on how to be a better person. The book’s strength lies in its anecdotes and wisdom on how women…can be more present and committed to living a fuller life of kindness, generosity, openness, and adventure.” ~Women’s Voices for Change

Nice!

This book has a lot more to it than French style, it’s about taking care of yourself. I love the whole idea of making more time for ourselves and living your best possible life, and appreciating the age we are. I really needed this book. One of my goals is to slow down, enjoy life’s rituals and be kinder to myself and those around me.

Pick up Tish’s book and check out her blog if you need a lift and a new perspective.

Now I’m off to do a nighttime mask!

Bonne Nuit!

x Kim

I saw this on IG and though you all looked like you were having so much fun! I haven't read the book but did flick through a few pages. I shall reserve judgement on the book until I read it but sometimes I wonder if the view on Parisian and French women are over romanticized a bit. I might read it just to see what the perception is. But good to see you all well xx

Naomi, I get what you are saying. I do think Tish is pretty honest about French women the good and bad, but I know what you mean. I've been there and not everyone is chic as you would think! Wish you could have joined us! xo

    Oh, dear, dear Kim,

Thank you so very, very much. Didn't we all have fun? You are absolutely lovely. Our blogging world of like-minded, kind, generous women is wonderful. Who could have imagined by sitting down at a computer one day and deciding to write a blog could have produced such friendships.

    Let's stay in touch.

Thank you too for the kind words about my book.

    Loved your look, so chic.

    Warmest regards,
    Tish

How nice that you got to do this, and share it with other lovely bloggers! Thanks for such a lovely post! I hope this will lead your readers to seek out her book.

    Best,

The weekend post is up with chat about the trendin The weekend post is up with chat about the trending colors for 2023 in home decor and fashion.. Did you love the 80’s? If so this is perhaps a more sophisticated version with sherbet tones and bits of magenta, greens and navy. Here I added a bit of these Easter tones to the coffee table with a grass cloth box, one of my books and a candle. I think the best way to update things is to add touches to the home and closet that appeal to you and mix them in with neutrals..
What do you think of these colors? I think they’re fun. Some clothing pieces bring me back to my Esprit loving days. It could be fun to add a shirt, shoe or bag in these tones and I selected a handful to consider..

Also on the blog, a few good white jeans, skin cleansers you may need and more!

I love the look of a classic white jean, paired with a chunky sweater or turtleneck in black, beige, tan, creams- neutral colors always look fantastic. Today it was warm enough that I could go sockless and wear my Madewell loafers with them and a little jacket I have from Anthro. Get your white jeans out. it will give your winter wardrobe have a little kick. White jeans can be worn all year and they even look great with winter boots and coats.

This is also a great time to look at your white Jean inventory. 🤍If you don’t have a pair that’s comfortable and straight leg, in a thicker material…this might be a good time to look. I’ll share some on the weekend blog as well.

We had the beach to ourselves and the weather was winter perfect. ☀️Cold and sunny. We had a picnic of sandwiches from Zoccolis deli and took in the sun and sea air while watching surfers and birds.

This song just seemed to fit -and relatable as I could not sleep last night! No idea why. Isn’t it maddening?

Hope you get a chance to take a winter beach walk.. They are the best.

I have to share a snippet of just some of the wisd I have to share a snippet of just some of the wisdom that was Martin Luther King. He will always be one of my biggest heroes and ten years ago I wrote a small post highlighting some of his very meaningful words and quotes that we could all use as a life guide. Link to the post in my bio and more on my stories.

Do you know he is the only American to have a holiday for him that hasn’t been a president? He also had a low approval rating when he died. That has changed. Now people around the world use his teachings of living in peace and the fight for justice as a model we can strive for. I find his words so very needed in a world that is polarized more than ever. ❤️
