Hello! Just a quick post to share some goodies I found this week! Max and I started the weekend by venturing out to a small restaurant in town we love. It was the first time we have gone to outside dinner in our busy town of Los Gatos. The restaurant had tables well spaced, and we wore masks until we were eating, but still there was a lot of foot traffic about. We enjoyed actually being out, but I felt a little stressed about the whole thing. I think we might stick to take out in the backyard for a special nights, and try to support our favorite restaurants that way. What has been your experience with dining out?
I did notice everyone was dressed up! People are clearly making the most of their outings. I felt the same and wore a new top that has been gathering dust.

I have been trying to do more online shopping so I decided to try a new company, Faherty which has very cute summer things. I could use a few summer dresses and I find it difficult to find easy, light things. So many dresses I notice are of heavy fabrics, not something you want in a summer frock! This brand was started by two twin brothers from New Jersey and its growing. Their dresses are made of beautiful light fabrics and they are committed to sustainability and quality!

This dress is the Gemima dress and I bought it in small. It is light and soft and feel great on for a hot day. It has pockets! I may have been able to go down a size, but I like the length and the looser feel. I guess that is a personal preference. I think the quality of this is just tops- sewn beautifully and excellent fabric. So if you need a few more summer dresses – check them out. This is the same Gemima dress in different fabrics and also the sleeveless Isha and the Hana linen shirtdress. All darling! Now that I know Faherty and it’s quality I hope to add another dress this summer to my mix.
Nordstrom is getting ready to have their Anniversary Sale with fall items, but before that happens there are still some great buys on nice summer things. There are some serious discounts this year on account of people shopping so much less – so this is the time to grab any summer items you might want before they trot out all the fall looks.
I’ve been trying to notice the things I wear the most and replace those or get something similar and these Tory Burch sandals are on sale now so I am going to add these to my summer collection. My other pairs from her are 5 and 3 years old and they still look good.

These Roxy Oceanside Linen Beach Pants are also marked down to $29 are and something I’ve been needing in the wardrobe. Many nights I want to get comfy and my sweats and pjs are too warm, plus I think these would be good for the short trip we may take to Tahoe later this summer where I’ll need my legs covered at night. Looks like they run small from reviews, so I am ordering up a size.

I also just bought this light summer lotion that gives a little sheen for bare legs and shoulders…

Also adorable in the summer category is this Tommy Bahama coverup dress. I love the white and the pockets and would probably wear it as a regular dress too. I always like the quality of their things…

If you’re thinking the off the shoulder look isn’t for you, my stylish friend Cindy Hattersley did a post this week on off the shoulder looks. If the question was can you still so this look at a more mature age, the answer is absolutely! Cindy shows how great she looks in a lot of lovely looks- all chic and showing a little shoulder!

Cindy inspired me to pull out some of my own off the shoulder tops this week and I realized I cannot get through another summer with the lame strapless bra I have. I ordered this one from Spanx. It’s highly rated and people claim it actually stays up thanks to some smart grip technology – so I have high expectations! I’ll report back…

On the lingerie, subject the Faherty dress is very light and so I added a slip that I had from under another dress to make it less transparent. I think with the very light linen dresses, you may want to add a slip. You want a slip that isn’t heavy or tight fitting. This adjustable slip from, believe it or not, Amazon, seems to be the perfect size and weight for summer dresses.

Lastly, this film Summerland, opening next week looks appealing.. It’s coming to theaters and on demand. I could use a good British film about now!
I miss the whole theater experience.
Happy weekend!

Hi Kim … great choices! I particularly love the dress on you … it’s perfect! Definitely ticks all the boxes! I’ve been looking for loose dresses, in natural fabrics too ( with pockets! 😊) The loose ones are so much more comfortable on a super hot day, than a fitted shift style. I’ve a couple of nude slips, in different lengths which work well if the dress is see through or designed more as a cover up.
Glad you and Max were able to spend some time at a favourite restaurant but I totally understand how you feel. So many people act as though everything’s “normal” and simply don’t consider how others may be feeling. I was in a shop the other day, ( returning an online purchase) where the assistant was continually coughing, while serving me … plus she didn’t stay behind the Perspex partition at the till or wear a mask 😩 … she apologised and said it was hay fever … and it may have been, but I felt so nervous, I couldn’t wait to leave … so glad I was wearing a mask!
I’ve never thought that I suit off the shoulder tops but Cindy inspired me to try a poncho style, like she has … I’ve a couple of knitted linen ones that may work!

Rosemary thanks! Just a few fun things… Gosh I can just imagine being in that store..Any coughing sets me on edge now! I totally agree. If people aren’t wearing a mask it’s just too sketchy! It’s good you had your mask. Weren’t Cindy’s ponchos cute? It really made me want to buy that grey one! And yes the loose dresses are so good for summer right? I need more of those slips. Hope your weekend was good! xo
I love natural fabrics for summer and that dress looks great on you. I haven’t shipped in months. But we’re not going out much so it feels like I don’t need anything.
Lorna I know what you mean. Mostly we can shop the closet right? I’ve just been noticing the few things I really use and trying to replace those- and what I am missing. Mostly it’s confutable things that are light- shoes and dresses. I have taken to wearing more dresses at home as they feel cooler than shorts sometimes…
Kim, We went out last night to the Basin in Saratoga and ate out back under the oak tree. There was only one other table of people out there because they put all of the others in the outside corridor and out front. The food was amazing. The new young chef is doing a great job with his eclectic menu and creative recipes. It felt like a regular date night!
Suzie thank you for the recommendation! I love The Basin and haven’t been for a while. Maybe we will try that one week night in the back area! xo
What great finds…you looks so cute in that dress!!!
Mary Ann
Thanks Mary Ann.xx
Kim, you look so cute in that dress! Even though I don’t wear dresses, I love seeing them. Maybe if more of them had 3/4 to long-sleeves and came a little below the knee, I would consider them. But of course, not new. At my wise age, I haven’t gone out in 4 months and don’t imagine I will for many months to come. It is a great time, though, exploring all my interests on zoom, So all my creative energy goes into what I’m wearing up top and how it looks against virtual backgrounds. I love the variety of your posts and hope we finally get to meet together live when this crisis is over. Love, smj
Hi Sheila-Merle, Thanks so much. I have heard a lot of women say they look for 3/4 sleeves. I will try to add some of those on my next dress post! I am glad you are staying and and safe right now. You are so smart making the most of your time. Yes we absolutely have to do some sort of meet-up when this is all done with. Take care!! xo
Hi Kim
You look darling in that dress. Zulu seriously look like a teenager! I am honored for the mention. You are such a good pal!! Thanks so much!
Cindy hugs to you. It’s all in the distant photo right? Up close I am looking more my age I am afraid. I loved sharing your post. You look gorgeous- always great ideas. xo
I love your dress and especially love your necklace. Please can you tell me where to find it, thanks Kim.
Hi Francesca, I always buy these in Hawaii. This morning I spent a long time looking for them from there online- no luck. I did however find this- https://rstyle.me/+fDlgBzxySNBBQ3DTxr9law and this https://rstyle.me/+TpmV_IZn52gsSp_KcWtXDg and a lot on this Etsy shop – https://rstyle.me/+wVo0SCmV05dMUs_ZoM48Uw
I think you can find them quite inexpensive when they are strung on suede, but the suede will always break after a while. This is my third necklace like this. I like the pearls open -not knotted so you can move them around. A finished leather cord is stronger and won’t break after a while. They also have them with fake pearls and in necklace form, but I find the lariat style more versatile and I love the natural freshwater pearls and the unique shapes. Hope that helps. I will continue my search and update the post when I see more. I spent about $65 for mine in the Big Island. I contacted the shop and they haven’t gotten back to me. Hope that helps!
Thank you kindly Kim! Happy weekend 🙂
SHOPPING ON LINE………….IT HAS BECOME SO EASY TO PUNCH THAT CART!!!!!!!!!
LOOKS GOOD ON YOU AND YOUR LARIET………is that the right word for the long pearl necklace?
DINNER out sounds ROMANTIC these DAYS!
LET ME KNOW ABOUT THAT BRA!!!!!!!!!!!
XOXO
Elizabeth I know, especially now and it’s the excitement of the day when I hear the UPS truck.. Sad to say that, but I am missing getting out and shopping a bit. Yes the necklace is really a lariat! Trying to find the same one to share…It’s from The Big Island. Dreaming about that lately.. Will let you know about the bra!! xo
What an adorable dress you are wearing. Perfect on you. I usually order to take home but did enjoy lunch in Calistoga on the patio. Felt good but we wore masks so did everyone in town.
I love those dresses (for my daughters😁). Perfect for the two who live in HOT places during the summer! Haven’t ventured out to a restaurant yet..occasionally getting takeout and eating in our patio..pretending we’re eating out. Thanks for sharing all the good stuff..just like having a good magazine in my lap😍
Love this dress, I appreciate the introduction to Faherty. Their dresses are exactly what I want to be wearing this summer. We’ve been going out to eat about once a week. Our local The Coffee Shop is our favorite destination. Wednesday through Sunday they offer street tacos, margaritas and sangrias. And their patio has a cool vibe. I love that many streets have been closed to traffic to allow more seating options. There are enough people out to feel almost normal, but not so many to feel crowded or unsafe. And, there’s parking!!! It’s been so nice we wish it would continue post-pandemic. xo
Hi Kim, I finally made it over here! I love that dress and pearl lariat necklace on you! So nice that you were able to dine out and I know what you mean about it feeling strange; fun and exciting mixed with trepidation. We are dining at home with occasional take out until the numbers go down here in Florida.
