How was your week? It’s our second edition of the new weekly roundup with Juliet and Elizabeth and I have some fun things for you to check out!
Think pink is my mantra this Valentine week and I rounded up a few things in honor of Valentines. I’ve been loving dusky pinks, and this top and sunglasses- and actually all of these, are on my wish list for spring.

I’ve been focused on getting my home together now, and I got a lot from this video on Schumacher this week with one of my favorite California designers, Windsor Smith. I could watch this video of her pretty So Cal home over and over. I’ve followed her forever and her home, where she raised two tennis obsessed sons, has been through a lot of iterations, but her kitchen is still my all time favorite and she hasn’t changed it a bit…

She was one of the first to have a navy, nearly black exterior on her house. I adore her undone, collected look. It’s my favorite kind of living space and very personal. I think you’ll love watching this and get more inspiration to have the not ‘perfect’ look, but to create a cool and unique home space. You can also following the sweet and talented Windsor on her Instagram too.
What are you cooking right now? Max and I are over comfort food and have been trying to eat better and lighter. My friend Bari just sent me this recipe for BBQ Salmon Bowls from Pinch of Yum and they are a delicious and easy dinner to try. We pulled this together pretty quickly one evening this week and I used frozen mangos as the grocery had none, frozen rice, and I had no jalapeño, but it was still terrific!
You don’t actually barbecue, just put an easy rub on the salmon and bake. It has a bit of a BBQ flavor thanks to the smoked paprika and with the mango and avocados feels like a dinner in Hawaii. We agreed this is going on our regular rotation. You could even make this for a Valentine’s Dinner!

I also wanted to mention that Neiman’s is having its annual Beauty Event. I love this February event, which begins today and goes through the 27th. It’s a great time to get any cosmetics and skincare you use regularly and if you spend $150, which is easy if you get a few items, you get a tote full of very nice samples. This year’s bag is the prettiest one yet, a straw tote with a ribbon handle. I plan to get my foundation, the Giorgio Armani mascara , Clarins Eye Lift cream, and Cle de Peau face lotion, which I love. The lotion, and the foundation last me almost a year, so worth it to me. I also have been wanting this Dior Lip Glow in Mahogany. If you spend $350 they give also throw in a clutch and more samples.
This week I found a great blog thanks to my friend Contessa, called Back Row by Amy Odell. As a former fashion industry insider, Amy has a pulse on what is happening in the world of fashion and some of her latest posts are about the demise of Instagram, and why the market is flooded with too many handbags- sitting unsold, and other entertaining stuff with great writing.
Do you have a Valentine’s Day plan? I think we are going kayaking this weekend, and maybe do a picnic lunch in Sausalito. My husband just bought some used kayaks, so I’ll let you know how this goes..gulp. I’m not a huge water person.
If you’re going to do the cozy thing and stay in this weekend, this great article on Vogue, has some of the best romantic comedies and many fairly recent that may have been under your radar due to the pandemic. Definitely a few I want to see from the list I missed.
I see you can still go to Filoli this weekend, have a cocktail and stroll the stunning gardens, if you are looking for something fun outdoors.
If you liked this post you may also want to read last week’s Valentine’s Ideas and Weekend Meanderings if you missed it.

This post was packed with so many good things! I am not a pink fan and I love that shirt from Anthro, such a beautiful shade of pink. I am going to make that salmon tonight, it sounds amazing. So many fun things…I need to come back and check out (maybe tomorrow when I am supposed to be watching the Super Bowl ha ha). Have a great weekend! It is going to be a great one weather wise!
Cindy thank you. Enjoy the weekend! We may not get this great weather for long.. Let me know what you think of the salmon. I do love the special pink of that shirt.. I hope it is a great weekend! xo
THE VIDEO IS THERE NOW!
I JUST WATCHED IT AND LOVED IT!
I HAVE A FEW OF THE SAME CHAIRS AND LOVESEAT SHE HAS AROUND HER KITCHEN TABLE!
I ALWAYS WANTED TO PUT IN THAT SLIDING LADDER in my PANTRY and LIBRARY!
OFF YOU GO TO MARIN TODAY TO KAYAK AND PICNIC…………….better stop by here for a coffee!!
WE ARE HERE!
XOXO
Elizabeth so glad you liked the video. I have to rewatch and see what furniture you have in common! I know her sliding ladder is so cool and I can see one in your home. I would have stopped by! Next time for sure. You live near so much beauty. Thank you.xoxo
I’d love to drop everything and head over to Fioli! Sigh … I’m headed other direction. But I’ll be getting my fill of beautiful houses with Windsor Smith’s tour. I checked and video works fine for me. That Cult Giai bag is fabulous … they make the best things. I’ll definitely check out NM beauty event. Yay. Our local store closed … very sad. I loved to go there and look at all the beautiful things … and have lunch, of course. Happy weekend, Kim! xo
Juliet Filoli has got to be beautiful right now! We sure are having a really wonderful week weather wise.. I’m glad you liked Windsor too. I thought that bag was adores and darn that stinks about your NM. Nothing like slipping into a pretty store like that, and when they have a lunch spot even better. When these little gems go away, it’s the end of an era. I don’t take them for granted! Everything is going online and I hate that. Hope your weekend is lovely! xo
HI Kim,
Thank you for the post, it’s a busy day and weekend for me so I have limited time to be on the computer today. I did print the BBQ Salmon Bowls with Mango Avocado Salsa. that your friend Bari shared with you.
Oh kayaks, what great exercise for the upper body. I am with you, not a fan of the water either, gulp is right. I guess partly because I never learned how to swim.
Yes, your friend E’s home is adorable how she decorates, she is very clever.
Maybe a picnic lunch in Sausalito sounds lovely, one of the areas that I once lived back in 1978, 1979, the views are so beautiful.
Happy Galentine’s Day. Love conquers all, or maybe I should say most. I prefer ALL.
Hi Katherine! I am so glad you got to print the recipe and let me know what you think of it! I know kayaking is great for the arms too..I am nervous in water and I guess boats. I don’t know why! Thank you I will tell E people are liking her bar! She has an eye for styling things. How wonderful you lived in Sausalito. I have to say today was the most I have ever explored it and it’s more beautiful than I remember and I need to get up there more. Happy Galentines! xo
Kim, I loved the Windsor Smith video so much!!! Her use of color in her home is right up my alley!! That kitchen was DIE!!! Her entry has been in an inspiration for a long time!! I can’t believe she has two of those circular settees in her home, I’ve always wanted one!! Thank you for sharing. Have a great weekend!! xo
Tracy I know I love her colors – and the entry! It reminds me of yours. Aren’t the settees the coolest? I wish I had one! xo
Kim it sounds as if you have the perfect weekend planned, a day in your kayak and a picnic, and now you have an invitation to visit the Contessa and the Italian! I would love it. Love the “collected look” of Windsor Smith, she is am amazing decorator. As for Pinch of Yum Lyndsay always creates the most delicious recipes! I do not eat fish but I think chicken might work.
Your friends bar is so inviting, I would love to mix a cocktail there.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
Elizabeth
Thank you Elizabeth! We got lucky the day was nice for a kayak here. I agree love Windsor and just discovering Pinch of Yum! Yes you could absolutely substitute chicken in the bowl and try the rub on it too. Thanks I will tell Elaine. She is very modest about her home and talents. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for this Kim … watching the Windsor Smith video with my morning coffee was a great start to my Sunday! What an amazing home … I especially love her kitchen, it’s so timeless and the sliding ladder! I was saying, only yesterday how much I’d love one! ( I know exactly where I’d put it! )
The Anthro pink top is really cute and such a gorgeous shade. I’ve a similar one in blues from Boden. So easy to wear.
Your friend E’s Valentines bar has do much personality! So cute! I actually looked at some Art Decco style bar trolleys only yesterday … so many coincidences here lol.
I hope you had a great time kayaking . Sausalito. is just so gorgeous especially when it’s quiet.
Rosemary xx
Hi Kim,
I’m reading this Sunday evening, after a very busy weekend.Hope your kayaking went well, I get nervous whenever we do that but am always glad we did (when I’m back on land!). Sausalito is so pretty what a great place to picnic.
I have a few new pink things to wear but that blouse really caught my eye. Don’t need it though!
Going to take some time to watch the video. I don’t understand the pots hanging over the table, maybe it will make more sense when I watch.
Looking forward to Vday!
Xo Heidi
Happy Valentine’s Day Kim! That salmon bowl is on my list for this week! You always find the best of everything!
xx

Thanks Annie! I feel the same about your blog. Let me know how the salmon bowl is! xoxo
