On this weekend meander, a little of Tahoe’s West Shore, easy summer pieces you need in the closest, pretty woven lampshades, and Aerin Lauder’s dreamy Palm Beach home.
Wimbledon !
I’m a huge tennis fan and Wimbledon is my favorite two weeks of the year! We have it on non-stop and so fun seeing the players, the spectators and everything about this event.
Of note this week, the All England Club finally came into modern times and is allowing men and women to wear black undergarments. Clearly this was need a long time ago and is a relief to women especially dealing with menstrual cycles. I think this looks great with the white dresses don’t you? I think it will actually start a new trend. As a tennis player, I will try this look too..

Rybakina and Azarenka below… Photos Huffpost.

The big makers like Nike and adidas make dresses especially for these grand slams and Nike’s offering is this dress which Azarenka and others were wearing ….Adidas’s Wimbledon look is this fun dress with longer shorts on right..

The Princess of Wales looked great in her white skirt and jacket..

I love seeing the lovely spectator looks and many opt to wear longish length summer dresses which always look very 1930’s to me.. I will share more next week on Wimbledon style.
Summertime in Lake Tahoe
We got up to the little cabin in Tahoe for a few days of the long weekend and it was lovely to be in Tahoe in Summertime. Tahoe is currently having its spring. Creeks and streams are flowing and little streams are running everywhere with the huge snowmelt.
Our meadow was stunning…

This late spring means everything is covered in heavy yellow pollen dust. We even saw yellow clouds blowing in the afternoons. It was quite rough if you have allergies, but still nice to be there!
Above and below the Ward Creek Trail that is next to our neighborhood..and the cabin.

As you can imagine the little cabin took a beating with the record snowfall. We did our best to get the roof and deck cleared as much as we could. Our roof lost some boards and our teak table looked like it was karate chopped in half and the edges of our benches were damaged too.

Hopefully we’ll get to it this summer, but everyone who has a place up there this year has some work to do.

A walk to the beach ( we had Jackson with us -I was so happy), flowers and boats on the lake..
The lake is so high our beach Hurricane Bay, lost about six feet.

I hope to get back again soon ..
A few of my favorites if you are on the West Shore…
If you’re on the west shore, there are a lot of new places popping up. Since the pandemic, The Dog and Bear Tavern in Tahoma is new and has excellent food, pizzas and a big bar where locals go and feels like a neighborhood pub. It’s one of our favorite spots. They don’t take reservations and have limited parking so go early.
The Swiss Lakewood Restaurant is also a special place and has been newly updated and has a terrific atmosphere and food. You need to call for a reservation, but it’s absolutely a meal you will not forget.

Tahoe House is an incredible bakery and no trip happens without first stopping there for the most delicious sandwiches on their home made bread. We always buy the rye levain and multi grain bread to take home. They also have salads, incredible pot pies and other gourmet foods to take home and cook…They have the best baked goods on the lake. The almond cookies are marzipan like and the banana nut muffins are other favorites.. Did I mention the coffee? They sell their own beans too.
Woven Lampshades
I found a pretty braided lamp shade at Homegoods before our vacation and grabbed it. I was thinking I’d bring it to the cabin, but it was so pretty, I plan to keep it in the entry for now with this white lamp

I looked for a similar one on the Homegoods and TJMaxx sites, but nothing. It was in a section with other Kilim sort of pillows. It’s amazing how much shade can change things up. I love the charming feel of a woven shade.

If you want to add a little seagrass or wicker shade to a lamp, I found options in woven shades here..here at Anthro, and this scalloped version at Ballard, and this simple and perfect wicker one and this at World Market. I’m going to look for small versions of the shades for my bedroom revamp.
On My Radar

I’ve been needing an easy linen/cotton jogger pants I can use for travel and also for cooler summer days and evenings. I happened upon this Caslon pair while at Nordstrom this week. I bought the small in black and at 5’4 and 135, they fit perfectly and hit at the top of the anklebone. A great price and they are much nicer looking than online. These are another light color option.
In that same casual summer mindset, I’ve been wearing my Ola Kai flip flops non-stop. I may make them my in-house shoe as they are so good, so I want another besides my all black and this fun version with the silver, white or sea glass straps is cute.

I also spotted this top while I was getting the pants and it its very similar to this Rails top I’ve been wearing so much. I like the green and bought it in a small. A pretty light top for hot days. I need more of those.
I’m a sucker for a beach sweater and have bought a few over years from J. Crew. This year’s version is extra cute and comes in a creme, white, navy, and bright orange. I would love the creme with jeans and shorts..
Aerin Lauder in AD
I finally got time to sit by the pool and read a few magazines…

This month’s edition of AD was exceptional and there was a great article about a family that took over a Julia Morgan home in Berkeley that I was hoping to share. That story is not currently online, but there are a lot of other great ones.

The dreamiest is the beautiful Palm Beach home of Aerin Lauder. It’s got all the feminine details she is known for and she even used some of her grandmother Estee’s charming lawn furniture in the stunning yard. To see all the prettiness go to the full AD article or this month’s issue.. I loved her dressing area with the blue chandelier and the kitchen with gingham in the upper cabinets.

Her table settlings are always gorgeous…

My Summer Dinner go-to
Since it’s Max and I now most of the time here dinner is pretty easy. We are always trying to eat lighter, especially in summer. My go to lately has been a mix of baby kale, spinach and a toasted nut ( usually walnuts), sprinkle of hemp and whatever fresh fruit is available. Last night we used fresh apricots, and berries we had leftover in the fridge.

I find toasting the nuts makes a huge difference in taste so don’t skip that. I have some diced chicken to add for protein from a rotisserie chicken from the store.

For dressing I always just use a small jar and mix olive oil, vinegar ( I love a lemon or champagne one), a dab of mustard, salt and pepper and occasionally a bit of honey or a squeeze of orange. I love the versatility of having bags of clean greens on hand and the option of just adding a protein and what is leftover especially at the end of the week..
I’d love to hear your salad ideas..
Juliet and I also did a LIVE this week finally! We chatted about our holidays and her amazing Italy trip, some talk about the upcoming Nordy sale, bras, tv shows and more chat. You can still catch that here on Juliet’s Instagram.

Last week I shared our five night trip to The Big Island of Hawaii and the historic Mauna Kea hotel, my new bed that arrived, and some pretty nightstand options.
Have lovely weekend,
Kim

This spring, I bought a top that’s similar in style to that Caslon top. I shopped on Etsy, and ordered this style top from India. It was my first time to try shopping in that way.

It took almost a month to arrive, but it’s now my favorite summer top!
Hi Lisa! Thank you so much. I love Etsy and just checked it out. Darling top! So nice of you to share. x
Hi Kim! Looks like you had a great trip to Tahoe! What a gorgeous area! The damage from the snow is really something. I also saw all the trash on beach that you shared in stories. Was that on July 4th? Never seen anything like that! Love a summer salad! And I can’t believe Aerin Lauder stole my idea of gingham in my kitchen cabinets! Mine is on the back of the glass front cabinets, though. Have a great week!
Molly she sure did! I love your kitchen even more..
Thank you Molly….Yes that was on July 4 on the other side of the lake in Nevada in a stretch of the lake that is not managed, so people go there with no reservations and can just show up and there is no oversight and sadly they leave their garbage behind including a lot of cheap coolers, chairs and even pop-up awnings if you can believe it.
There are no garbage cans there as no one manages it. The state of Nevada and South Shore, which has the fireworks needs to take ownership of it. Sadly the Keep Tahoe Blue People always clean it up, but what we should do is prevent it as the lake is such a precious and fragile place.
Kim, I love your salads … you’re so creative with them and they’re always beautiful. So glad you got up to Tahoe. Tahoe in the summer is the best. What a bummer about your table … wow, the weight of the snow. At least no serious damage to the cabin. Thankgoodness. Also happy to hear you had some much needed pool time. I’m going to pull that AD issue out and look over this weekend. love Aerie Lauder and her beautiful lifestyle. I really like those jogger pants too. I’d never thought of this before but after our last trip I was so glad I wore joggers on the plane. When visiting the powder room, no worries about hems grazing the floor. What a find with that lamp shade! Maybe someday it will make its way to Tahoe but I do love it in your foyer! And last but not least, those pastries … oh my gosh. I think I may need a trip to Tahoe very soon!!! Happy weekend, friend! xo
Juliet I just throw things together… I know the Tahoe snow was a real issue this year.. Sadly we are not the only people to have damage.
You will love that AD issue. I swear this is the most fun magazine right now.
Great point about joggers and the bathroom floors.. So more benefit to them.
You need to get to Tahoe House if you go to Tahoe! xx
Kim, your salad looks delicious…I’ll keep it to try later when I have some leftover chicken.
Lately, due to seeing avocados, mangoes and strawberries on sale in the produce section, I have been enjoying this combination… those three things chopped over nutritious greens (with shelled peas from the garden) . I add a sprinkling of raw cashews, chopped cilantro and have found the perfect dressing…WHITEWATER COOKS HONEY CURRY vinaigrette. This is 🇨🇦 , but using the ingredients one could create somewhat the same thing…
canola oil, cider vinegar, onion, honey, paprika, curry, turmeric, mustard powder, salt.
Different and delicious!
Hi Cath! I hope you enjoy the salad. It’s just o easy to throw together. Ooh I like the idea of mangoes, avocados and strawberries… and peas. plus cashews. I bet my family would love it too.
I will look for that vinaigrette or try to recreate. It sounds wonderful.
Thank you!
Hi Kim,
Enjoy Wimbledon for two weeks. You will be in “tennis heaven.” You shared some great action photos. Catherine, The Princess of Wales, looked so good, pretty in her white skirt and jacket. She has a gorgeous smile, face, hair too. So does Megan. I bet you are an outstanding tennis player. You have been playing since you were a youngster right? Yes, I like the black under garments. It’s better than white.
Seeing your little cabin when it was covered with packed solid snow I think you got off pretty lucky damage wise. So sorry to hear about the roof damage the cool looking teak table and the edges of your benches.
I always like seeing pictures of you and the family outdoors enjoy Mother Nature. How nice Jackson was with you this time. The Meadows are so pretty and peaceful, too bad about the pollen. Does that cause you to feel all plugged up plus a headache? Allergies and pollen do not mix.
Oh yum The Tahoe House Bakery looks dangerous.,
Wanted to acknowledge the pretty woven lampshade you found. I bet the light is subdued. The ivy plant is pretty.
Aerin Launder’s Palm Beach home is so well done
and the back yard is a big wow.
You are the salad queen of quite a lot.
Hi Katherine! Agree I love Meghan too and miss seeing her at Wimbledon.
I have been playing tennis since I was 7, but I am just an average player- but I love it! Agree aren’t the white pants better? Crazy it has taken so long to change things for people to be comfortable!
I survived the pollen with some Claritin! It was great to be in the woods! I have been thinking about you guys with the extreme heat. I hope you are doing okay down there in Arizona. I thought you had some cool weather and now so hot!
Take care!!
Oh thank you about the lampshade!! xoxo
Good evening Kim,
So sorry about your sweet cabin, thankfully there was not more damage for the monumental snowfall that you had this year. I am sure that it was nice to be able to get there and assess the damage and enjoy a little downtime.
I love your new shade! It looks beautiful. You are so right, a shade makes such an impact, just like paint. I am on the hunt for a few shades to change things up but so far have not found what I am looking for.
Are you enjoying your new bed? Have you found the perfect bedside tables yet?
I missed your live with Juliet! I am sorry, I will listen to the replay.
Your salad looks delicious. I love a good salad, especially in the summer when the berries and produce are fresh from the farmers market.
Have a wonderful weekend Kim. I hope that you find some more time to sit by the pool and relax.
xo Elizabeth
HI Elizabeth, I know crazy what the snow can do right? Yes shades are so good and love the pretty fabric ones too.
Still working on the bedroom things! We have to have you for the LIVE with us sometimes.
I hope you had a great weekend! xx
That was FULL OF INFORMATION!
I best go back and re-read it!
I have never seen Kate take a bad photo!
As for Tahoe so disappointing!!!
I too blamed it on THE NEVADA SIDE!Not even knowing that’s where it happened.
Terrible of me but after our entire LIFETIME of being taught to pick up trash and not to litter I find it shocking!
Off to watch your Live🥰
Xxx
I know about Tahoe and the trash. Luckily the Keep Tahoe Blue people surveyed the other beaches and they were mostly in really good shape except for that beach and another.. That one beach is on the Nevada side and unmanned and that incites all kind of people who just crash there and leave trash.. They need to stop them even though others clean it up.
Agree do you still think of the native American crying? Hootie the Owl? My mom guilted us to never throw trash anywhere.. xo
Hi Kim,
Looks like you’ve been busy! I could not believe the state of the shoreline at Lake Tahoe after the fourth. It really disturbed me. What is wrong with people? I always wonder what their homes must be like if they don’t think leaving their trash behind like that is just so very, very wrong. Disgusting. Anyway…your little cabin is so adorable and in such a beautiful spot. I love it up there during the summer. So pretty! I need to get back sometime.
Cute lampshade. I love a woven shade and have a few, also woven wicker lamp bases that I adore. Makes the place feel beachy! Even though we’re just barely into warm days here. I rolled up the rugs and got the place ready for the heat, surely coming in September!
I’m enjoying sitting on my deck with the roses and all my flowering plants looking pretty spectacular right now!
I’m always on the lookout for a good summer sweater, never leave the house without something to add another layer, just in case it gets chilly, which it always does!
Enjoy your weekend,
Xo Heidi
HI Heidi! I know that was very ad a bout those who left trash. That was a side of the lake in Nevada that is maintained and they need to change that! Agree who does that and how were you raised I always wonder? I know the lampshades and the lamps with wicker are so charming.
We have had cool weather too. I bet your deck is gorgeous right now and I can see you enjoying your afternoon out there!
Hope you had a good weekend. xo
