Trina Turk Spring 2018

March 17, 2018 By kimwheeler 8 Comments

All of you who read this blog regularly know I am so fortunate to occasionally be asked to do an event in collaboration with California designer Trina Turk. Trina has the most lovely clothing and her beautiful modernist boutique in Burlingame is probably my most favorite spot to shop. I love the people there and I always find something unique to add to the cherished pieces of my closet. I am a bit of a collector when it comes to her things.

This coming Thursday I am honored to host a special spring shopping and styling event at the boutique in Burlingame. The time is 10:30-1, and anyone who pops in will get 20% off of all regular merchandise. I am also excited because I am doing this in conjunction with Suzanne Bell, a very stylish local blogger.

Suzanne writes AskSuzanneBell where she shares all the cool places she shops as well as great finds and terrific style ideas. I have been following her a long time on Instagram and found so many cute things thanks to her great eye. She’s also a local realtor with her husband and a mom and is a lot of fun. Come join us! We will have refreshments and Suzanne and myself will be on hand to help you find a special piece that is just right for you or for an upcoming event or holiday you may have on the calendar.

A few weeks ago Suzanne and I went up to the Trina store in Burlingame and see the latest collection. We had a ball trying things on and taking photos. One thing about the Trina store is the longer you are there, the more you find. Some things that you have to try on before you see how good they look and feel. I love that they get many many collections throughout a season, so there is always something new in store. Trina creates her own fabrics, which makes her clothes so different from many others and they are designed and mostly made in California. When you go to a Trina Turk Boutique you’ll find bags, shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, resort wear and so many other cool pieces she chooses to compliment the clothes. That is why it is an old school boutique experience to me and rare to find now a days. You have to visit even if you cannot get to our event!

Here is a just a small preview of what is now in store at Trina Turk…

Some beautiful floral silks right now with hand painted design. I am in love with these!

The Cattleya dress is even more beautiful in person. This is a stretch silk! The wrap belt was added.

A great pairing here!

Some great sandals, hats and totes for your next getaway!

The lunchbag clutches are fun.

Another great floral in the Amando dress and cool bag. A nice wedding guest look or dinner out dress.

These chambray wrap Odette pants are so comfy and the tank is darling too.

Suzanne loved this Boho dress with gold accents with gold slides.

More vacation essentials.

The Arboretum dress was perfect for Easter and upcoming holidays.

The Springey dress felt great on in silk georgette and is another great getaway dress.

Suzanne, helped by Dana the store manager looked adorable in the Tamika top and palazzo pant!

In the same fabric I loved the Bonita dress which also comes in a dark navy with this floral. This dress looks great on everyone with it’s neckline and sleeves.

I also thought Suzanne looked great in this Anissa stripe and floral dress which could go from pool to cocktails.

This Cayson dress is super casual, but stylish and would be a summer go-to for me.

Another look at the Odette pant which looked great with the Bree top which is the same as the dress above.

I also like the ease of this Kaiko dress in the snapdragon color. So easy to throw on with cute sandals or put the sleeves down and add a boot in cooler weather. It reminds me so much of a early 70s dress my mom had.

Again resort wear… They have you covered from beautifully made suits to gorgeous coverups you never want to take off

How pretty is the Seavees in Trina’s latest floral design??

Pop on over to Suzanne’s blog to see more of our shopping day and get to know her!

You can also follow the Burlingame Trina Turk Boutique on their Instagram and Trina’s own Instagram here!

Trina Turk’s Fall Collection & Our Event Saturday !

September 8, 2017 By kimwheeler 4 Comments

I am so fortunate to be doing a shopping day with Trina Turk this weekend. My friend April of Ms B in the Bay Area and I spent a few hours up at the Burlingame store yesterday and got to preview the fall looks and I have to honestly say it is her prettiest fall collection ever.

I’m especially in love with the beautiful deep florals and pretty shapes of the dresses and tops.

This pink shirtdress might be my very favorite with its easy feel, pockets and zipper front. It has luxe cuffs with the nicest gold button detail too. I could wear casual or dressed up with heels like these Sunset Blvd pumps- also part of her fall collection.

Trina’s handbags are super cool this season…

This mauve color is very hot and I like the tassel it comes with.

This tote and clutches are all great fall pieces! I’m contemplating this leopard Raquel Clutch which is a perfect size for daytime as well as nights.

Loving the boots and how cute is this box bag?

These luxe boots also grabbed my eye as they are different by Pour La Victoire and the box bag is also a way cute for a special event with a fall dress.

More pretty boots and standout bags! Kind of in love with this bucket bag and these Frye boots (marked down) in this color!!

This Merge clutch is also modern and fun.

April and I had fun trying on some of our favorite looks. It’s nice to see how things fit and some items look so different on. We wanted to be prepared to help anyone who comes to see us Saturday.

This lace Dreamland dress was one of the very best, so flattering with the bell sleeve and lace neckline. Wouldn’t it be the perfect dress for Thanksgiving or a special fall dinner with these deep colors?

An elegant dress with gold details and the most sublime green.

How cool is the Jones patented tweed coat? Even cuter on. And yes it is water-repellant, so you can just wipe it dry. Lightweight too and doesn’t wrinkle so it may be the perfect travel piece in fall.

I have to say right here that items like this coat are what makes her collections so neat. One of a kind pieces that become even cooler as you keep them over the years are what I love about shopping at Trina and looking back on all her different collections, I wish I had bought a few more of them as they get better with time!

  Always love the Trina jewelry.

 A cute ladybug sweater.

This leopard vest, tweed jacket and sporty flowered bomber were just a few of the jackets.

This dress is a great pick for upcoming parties. April in the black version below…

The Panache dress is another fun cocktail dress.
Also this Splendid dress!
April looking graceful in the navy version of the Panache dress.
For daytime and more casual wear this Jaxson dress was adorable on April.

The Keleigh is another shirtdress with cute contrasting cuffs and belt.

The Opulent jacket in a tattersall check has a very cute back detail …

This jacket is beautifully made with a deep red lining with navy polka dots and the darling buttons. I’m kind of a jacket junkie. I think nothing looks more polished than a little jacket. The picture doesn’t do it justice and the special details in her clothes them even cooler.

So many beautiful items. I’m just showing a fraction.

April loved this chambray dress, a fall version of the blue one she owns. This has a grayish wash on it and we agreed this is the perfect throw on dress that felt great.

Below is the black version of the zip up shirtdress I wore in pink at the top of the post.

Simple and yet so chic! Hard to decide what I like more black or the pink Darya dress, but it is something everyone would love to have in the closet.

More snazzy accessories…

Lots to love at the beautiful Trina Turk Burlingame store. I didn’t even show swim, coverups, sunglasses and so much more.

Downtown Burlingame is a cute spot and a great chance to enjoy a day out with a friend and have lunch.

The team who work at this Trina store are very cool ladies and know what looks great. If you can’t make my event, visit them sometime. The store itself is a modern gem- beautifully designed and always a joy to see what they have from this California designer. You can find more of her fall collection on the Trina Turk site.

See you Saturday!

Join Me at Trina Turk This Wednesday!

September 12, 2016 By kimwheeler No Comments

I’m thrilled to partner with Trina Turk again this Wednesday at their lovely Burlingame boutique.  If you have never had a chance to see her clothes in person, it’s the perfect time to stop in, view the new collection and get 25% off the fall looks. Trina Turk is the place I consistently find unique or cool pieces to add to my wardrobe! It’s also a great go-to if you have an upcoming special party or event.

I like to support Trina Turk as her company is headquartered in California with design and production here too.  The clothes are not only pretty, but have quality workmanship and lovely details that I look for when I shop.
I’ll be there 10:30-1:30 wearing my favorite pieces from the fall collection in my own way. I’d love to meet you there and help you find some of the best looks for fall.
Here’s some of the beauties that caught my eye when I stopped by last week…
The accessories line is really hot right now with some gorgeous bags and collectable necklaces and rings. I’m kinda crazy about this bag and the colors and these cocktail rings!

Trina’s super comfy silky dresses are in this dark lovely floral for fall.
 Again more wonderful details.
More great bags!

A Trina twist on plaid!

There are always fabulous pantsuits each season.

Wrap dresses.
 Elegant blouses.

The clutches are the perfect shape and size!

Wearing two of the separates Trina style with contrasting patterns! This skirt is woven and also comes as a sweater dress version that is darling.

Trina’s athletic line is so nice. Love the bags, jackets and slides here.

If a holiday is on your radar, you can always find a chic swimsuit and coverup year-round here.

How cute are these pom-pom sandals?

I highly recommend a day out on Burlingame Avenue. It’s one of the best shopping streets in California with some darling independent boutiques as well as chains I like and a great number of fun sidewalk cafe lunch spots. The uber-popular Lemonade from Southern California also just opened on the avenue.  Bring a friend and stop by and say hi if you can this Wednesday!

Get Ready For Spring at Trina Turk in Burlingame With Me!

March 4, 2016 By kimwheeler 23 Comments

Happy weekend! Thanks to a few weeks of beautiful weather here in Northern California I’ve been in a spring mindset. I’m looking forward to wearing sandals and dresses and lighter and prettier things soon. Fortunately, I am doing another spring event this year with the lovely Trina Turk boutique in Burlingame next Saturday, March 12, from 10-1.
We collaborated last year and many of you were able to stop in and see how beautiful Trina’s collection is in person. The quality of the clothes, many which are made in California, is wonderful. I also love the fun bags, shoes, and jewelry that pop with her collections. If you are thinking of Easter or a special event, this is your go-to spot for a frock. And if a holiday or beach getaway is coming you can check out her latest swim, coverups, totes and hats. Best of all, the Trina boutique in Burlingame will be giving 20% off any of the regular priced merchandise just for Northern California Style friends who come to this event. If your unable to make it, and there’s something you’ve been wanting you can call ahead of the event (number below), and have them ring it for you and ship it or I can get it for you and deliver myself if your in the South Bay. I’d hate for anyone to miss out on getting the 20% which they don’t do often and especially with the new Spring collection, which just hit stores.
I drove up to Burlingame last week to check out the new looks and took a few snaps to give you a peek. See for yourself how gorgeous her things are.

This super cute print is a collaboration of Trina with Portland artist Lisa Congdon. I’m crazy for the ball trim on the bottom of this Julieann dress.

The beach totes are so cool as are the towels.

Solids and jumpsuits are some of the classics Trina always carries as well.

More beautiful accessories!

Coverups, flip flops, and espadrilles!

Swimwear! Love the quality of the fabrics used.

I tried a few of the latest Spring collection….

This yellow tasseled dress comes with a slip and could be a fun dress for alfresco dinners or without the slip as a coverup. It may be a perfect travel piece for an island holiday?

Adored the bright color of this crepe Felisha dress with it’s pockets and modern shape.

Another cool retro print in a silky fabric which won’t wrinkle and again great for travel or poolside.

As a California girl I have to admit to having a love for fringy crochet pieces that harken back to the my 1970’s childhood. This dress had me thinking of summer nights out and dangly earrings..Cue the Eagles music.

One of my favorites might be this gorgeously made navy lace Alvah jacket. With a nude shell it’s kinda sexy, but with a solid it can be daytime proper. The girls at Trina ,who have amazing taste, had me try it with these plaid pants which feel really nice on and give it he Trina look.

It’s also cool with colorful shorts.. I can see it with jeans. I may be wearing it a totally different way if you come by the event!

Please try and come by! I’d love to meet some of you. I’ll be there helping style customers and friends with the latest looks and just having fun. The folks working here are the best and you’ll love meeting them. We will have refreshments and coffee and there will be time for you to shop and grab lunch after in cute Burlingame. We will be there from 10-1, but like I said if you are unable to make it, please call  (650) 340-8540 at the Trina boutique before the event so you can get 20% off. Mention  you’re calling about the Northern California Style event and they can ship it to you or I can bring it to you if you are nearby.
Looking forward to seeing some of you and hoping you’ll pop in!

Why Every Woman Needs A Della Dress

June 7, 2014 By kimwheeler No Comments

Well we are officially on summertime here in out house and it feels great. After a crazy last week with all sorts of school events, we are now in our happy place here, with our only requirement is to relax. You can feel the collective sigh of relief!
Last afternoon I worked grad night preview at our high school. Sophomore parents had fun being security while the public is invited to walk through the grad night display before the festivities start.
Chatting with another mom I worked with, we marveled at all the great dresses on the mom’s of graduates who walked through. Truly, I thought, this is the year of the dress, as I cannot remember a time where I have seen more well-dressed ladies. That is not always the case. We attributed it to the return of the dress. There are so many pretty choices out there now, and they are transformative. Slip one on with a feminine flat sandal and a clutch, and you are pulled together, chic and impeccable.
On that note, I have to share my favorite garment I own right now, A Della Dress! It is all those things I want a dress to be, easy, comfortable, light and stylish. I simply throw it on with my favorite sandal and I am off. No thinking is required and I have a polished look. As they skim the body, not grab it, I need no Spanx or any of that nonsense. When I don’t know what to wear to a lunch or dinner or just running errands on a warm day, I can go with it and feel stylish and cool.
If you are a regular reader of this blog you may remember I wrote of A Della Dress before.  Andrea the designer, is based in Pacific Palisades and the dresses are all designed and made in California.  I love that!! So rare.  I like her simple philosophy of just 3 designs.. A shift, a sheath, and a shirtdress. It’s brilliant and who doesn’t look good in one or all of these?
Here’s my newest dress, a sheath, in my garden.
I wore this to my lunch with some lovely blog buddies at Bumble in Los Altos. Love that restaurant and I recently wrote about it. I was nervous about what to wear, lunching these fashionable ladies, Jody, Jennifer and Elizabeth, with me (nice closed eyes), but having my new dress to wear was so great.
They are wonderful kind and fun women. (Don’t they look fabulous?)
I am wearing my Ivanka Trump sandals (on sale now) and an older tote I am crazy about from Banana Republic (similar one here) that goes with everything, especially nice with this dress.
The fabric I picked was from Andrea’s summer 2014 fabric collection.
It’s from her lightweight cotton twill group that is called ‘A Hike in L.A.’  Isn’t that cute?
I choose the Los Lionnes print, and I am loving having yellow in my wardrobe.

It was hard to choose which dress.
I loved this Greek key print too ….

This dress felt very Jackie Kennedy to me. Adored the neutral colors.
Some of the pretty choices.

The cotton ticking stripes were very comfy and soft.
( Testing them out here in my boy’s bath.)
Then there were also the Beach Party fabrics …

These pretties are 100% yarn died linen.
Don’t you love the tags?
The workmanship and details in these made in California dresses are impressive.
The buttons are always unique and striking.

I believe this is a vintage button on the back of my dress.

Look how Andrea added a little hook to hang the dress. She is swims and wanted to be able to  take it with her to the gym, hang it and just toss it on after a workout! Brilliant.

Now that is California living!

The buttonholes and beautiful sewing on a shirtdress here.

No annoying tags to stick out.
I ask you, do you own a dress with finished seams inside?

I know how much work this is as my grandmother was a seamstress, and this is a hallmark of a quality dress, but rarely found in today’s world.

In the end I chose chose the sheath with the pockets (crazy for them) and printed twill.

I will be wearing this for many years as it glides over me, I don’t need to stress if I gain a few pounds, or indulge on a holiday.

This is coming with me to Hawaii in a few weeks and will be partaking in as many macadamia nuts and tropical drinks as I am able to!!

Here’s designer and owner, Andrea, visiting me a few weeks ago on one of her jaunts up here in Northern Cal to see some of her retailers.. Adored her coat dress.

If you are interested in purchasing A Della Dress, or knowing more, you can click on my sidebar ad.

Right now if you use the NORCAL code you can get free shipping!

Check out the photos of A Della Dress in Action that customers have sent to her in their dresses when you visit her site. It shows many creative ways of styling these dresses.

Here’s Andrea on a recent trip to Palm Springs in the shirtdress from her summer collection in the Westridge cotton twill. I love how she added the booties with it. She has great style!

I am obsessed with the return of the dress and the ease and simplicity it adds to life!
What about you? Are you a fan of dresses or just rediscovering them again?
Happy June!

A Della Dress

July 15, 2012 By kimwheeler No Comments

Andrea creator and designer of A Della Dress in one of her shirt dresses.

Now that summer is here I finally have had a few moments to look around and take stock of the home and my wardrobe. One thing I am really noticing lately is that the quality things I have purchased in the last decade or so are still with me, still stylish and give me more joy than ever to wear and use.

The things I fling willy nilly into my home and wardrobe from some mindless shopping are just taking up space. What was so coveted in the dressing room is greatly disappointing me once home and I end up reaching for the older and quality pieces that always look great. I’m rambling a bit here, but it brings me to one sound investment I made this year,  A Della Dress.

Last Fall, my friend Bonnie, a mother at our school, invited me to a trunk show at her house. I really had no idea what to expect. Turns out Bonnie has a dear friend Andrea who lives in Pacific Palisades and recently started her own design business.

Bonnie in A Della Dress sheath with sleeves in a gorgeous red at the holidays.

Her friend, Andrea Dyke realized there was a real need for the super flattering A-line dresses of the 1960s that were worn by Jackie Kennedy and so many. She had a vintage Marimekko shift dress that she had worn out and could not replace. Andrea decided there was a niche to be filled and has done it brilliantly, setting up her own atelier and design team in Los Angeles. A Della Dress is based on 3 versatile A-line shapes. They are a shift, a sheath and a shirt-dress.  Andrea travels all over doing trunk shows in California, and even up in Canada where she hails from.

Andrea wearing one of her dresses with a jean jacket. Doesn’t she look chic?

I was intrigued that I could have a custom dress that was very affordable and unique. I tried several dresses at Bonnie’s home and finally settled on a shirt dress in a pale blue grey with a light plaid print. I also chose my buttons and decided I’d like tabs on the back too.

How I was wearing my shirtdress on Easter.

When my dress came, I felt like a princess. I had never had a dress made so beautifully, except for the frocks my grandmother made me as a little girl. The quality of my dress, the seams, the shape, all of it were amazing. I have enjoyed wearing this shirt dress a ton and have had so many compliments on it.

I have worn it with boots, a scarf and a coat in Winter and with sandals and chunky necklaces in Spring and Summer.  It just hit me this week in my closet purge that I need to order a shift dress. The one I am thinking of will be sleeveless in her Malibu fabric or maybe the Hollywood aqua with on seam pockets.

Now this is something worth spending your hard earned money on! What am I thinking with another mindless trip to the mall? It’s lovely to have something made just for you, that you had a hand in customizing and is made so beautifully. I also love that it’s made right here in California! Check out the photos below to see some of Andrea’s fans in their dresses…

Jenna Bunnell is an event coordinator for Hermes. Here she is at one of the events wearing the sheath dress in boardroom brown, I love her hair and accessories.

One of the shifts on Kathleen in a lovely fabric at the Prado in Spain.

The shirtdress on Holly in navy pique with a belt and she’s holding the shift in Malibu fabric.
Helene, sent Andrea Marimekko fabric from the Manhattan store so she could make a shift dress. Here she wears it after yoga with boots and a leather jacket. You too can send them a fabric you love to  be made into a dress.

Deborah is wearing an African Safarai Khaki Shirtdress on her bike!

These ladies, Andee and Pam are wearing shirt dresses with seersucker linings and double wrap belts.
Diane looks fabulous in the sheath in the Hollywood fabric! Below she’s in the same with another fabric.

Some of the printed shifts.

A sheath on Alicia with a wrapping belt.
The fabric of my beloved dress. Isn’t it pretty?
Another customer in the style and fabric I bought. She wears a belt and boots with it.
Some of the fabric choices for Summer.

You can check out Andrea’s great website here. Make sure you click on A Della Dress in Action to see all the lovely ladies who already own her dresses. I have gotten to know Andrea better over email and I just love her. She’s so smart and funny and really a cool lady. If you live near Los Angeles, you can even visit her Atelier, in Pacific Palisades, where she lives. She also does custom made to fit orders.

The view from Andrea’s Atelier! Who wouldn’t love to bring a friend and shop here?

Well after all this weather, and so much indoor ti Well after all this weather, and so much indoor time, I’m officially sick of everything and I am ready to give the home a little refresh. Homegoods and TJMaxx have some great spring items and a promotion with items from France, Italy, etc. They can be a good source for outdoor pots, new pillows, rugs and decorative bits. It’s good time to find a ‘few’ emphasis on few, new things for the home. They carry unique items, many one offs, but you have to be a discerning shopper.. What to look for and what to avoid on this little clip.

I’ll be taking more about how to shop smart at these sort of places on the upcoming blog as well. What’s been your experience at these stores? I have had good luck and bad and I think you have to be smart about what you choose and don’t fill a home with these things.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on shopping there.

I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room today as my builder @mikemccloudconstruction shared it too. I still love the way it came out! I had saved many inspiration pictures of how I wanted this to look. I was lucky Mike helped me make this happen. A good builder who listens and has ideas as well, helps so much. I’m sharing some of the extra details up close.

I loved this blue sort of organic watery tile for a pool bath. I also knew I wanted an open shelf for all the pool towels so people could grab them on the way out the door. The @serenaandlily mirror definitely has that nautical almost porthole, sort of look and picked up the unfinished oak color. I used an RH pendant light and the sink is Victoria and Albert. The counter is from a slab of @vadaraquartz that I spilt and used in the laundry as well as the boy’s bath. I choose an inexpensive cement tile for this space and the connecting laundry/mud room which works with drippy pool feet! It’s been almost four years and all still looking great!

DM me if anyone wants details I left out! I thought I did a post on this, but maybe not! I need to do that with all the baths.

Hope you all have a good week and get some nature in the first day of spring!

Are you watching the @bnpparibasopen ? I just got Are you watching the @bnpparibasopen ? I just got back from three whirlwind days with pals and we had a ball. It was so good to be in the sun and and warmth -with snow capped California mountains as a backdrop. We went in the beginning part of the tournament which we always do, and got to see Andy Murray, Sabalenka, Zverev, Raducanu, and so many fantastic other players. We basically eat, slept and breathe tennis for two days straight and we loved it! You can still catch play on the @tennischannel 🎾

I will share another Reel of all the stylish people.. Something about tennis brings out the sharpest dressers and there was excellent people watching.

If you love tennis, this is a bucket list tournament. They call the fifth slam and it’s getting crazy popular so plan a year ahead of you want to go. We reserved our hotel that was walking distance a year ago. More tips on my BNP post that I update each year.

I separated the sectional and sort of like it apar I separated the sectional and sort of like it apart. This RH couch is a LOT of maintenance and can look pretty deflated after a weekend of hanging out. In hindsight, I’d buy a couch that does not require so much fluffing and cushion alternating. I snapped this pic because it was one of the times I had the pillows looking nice on it. You also need a lot of pillows to not get swallowed up by it. I call it the great white.

The local RH actually has a cleaning team that steams and fluffs their couch and I’ve seen them before the shop opens. I found it hard to get reviews on this couch before buying because RH does not have them online and if you notice they don’t do social media… so I’m just putting it out there. I will share what I love here, but I think it helps to be transparent about what is a disappointment too.

Have you ever made a rustic style scone? These are Have you ever made a rustic style scone? These are the only kind I’ve ever made and it all started when I had one in Paris at the @rosebakeryparis years ago. My sweet mom later bought me their cookbook. I was thrilled and have made scones with their fantastic recipe ever since.

I was missing my mom and thinking about her as today is her birthday, (actually tomorrow she was a Leap Year baby) and made these yesterday. She also loved lemon so I tried a variation adding Meyer Lemon zest and juice and lots of almonds and it was SO good! These are a great treat for a rainy afternoon with tea. ☕️ Recipe is on my story.. and I’ll add it to my cookery highlight. The Breakfast Lunch Tea book from Rose Bakery is a treasure if you can still get it with many delicious recipes using whole grains and healthy ingredients.

It’s raining cats here! Def scone weather!
