Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday Gift Ideas

December 2, 2019 By kimwheeler No Comments

It’s been particularly wet and nasty here in California. The idea of getting to the mall sounds a lot less appealing than sitting by the fire with my cats and a cup of hot tea perusing the Cyber Monday deals on my laptop!!

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. We did and I’m working on a little recap of a busy week. During the blustery weekend my co-worker kitty and I found a little time to round up some gift ideas for you to get a jump on the shopping. Some of the Black Friday Picks I just wrote about are still going, so check that post if you missed it.

Most of these sales I am listing are for Monday only, but some go for the whole week or longer, so read the details on the site.

I am happy to tell you the Serena & Lily Thank You Event is being extended until 12/3 and now including sale items! This is their biggest sale of the year, so check out my dedicated post to what to buy for the home and for gifts during this event! Everything you love is 25% off right now.

A few more below..

My current favorites for holiday gifts and home.. Top to bottom, left to right:

1 Henley Wool Throw/ 2 Dip-Dyed Cake Stands /3 Coastal Christmas Candle /4 Amelia Rug /5-Beachside Bowls /6 Dalton Flannel Robe & Milo Alpaca Throw/7 Edgewater Lounge Chair /8 Lakeview Rug /9 Hattie Table Lamp

Trina Turk, my favorite California designer is having 30% off site wide, and more on specially selected items- like sweaters and coats. This Liza dress, is 40% off…and so cute for any upcoming holiday parties.

This Suez sweater is 30% off too. Love it for Christmas.

Coats are always fab at Trina and this Black Lace Trench is gorgeous and 40% off!

Athleta, is having 20% off with code BEMOVED. These cute leopard leggings I loved and tried on in our local store and shared on Instagram, are now on the sale as is this cute Transit Crew sweater with piping my friend Kim and I loved in black and grey.

This Metallic Bronze Down Jacket is also marked down today! This sale also works at the store today too, which is great if you can get to one. The new Los Gatos location, above is really pretty.

Minted, another Northern California company like Serena & Lily, has 25% off orders- and free shipping, including art, excluding tote bags. I love so much on their site, especially their cool and unique holiday cards, which I have ordered for 5 years now.

And how cute is something like this personalized stationery? I think something like this Painted Desert design below, is the nicest gift for a friend or family member, and the price is good, even better with a discount.

You can also do something cute like this collage for a grandparent! It’s pretty large -18 x 24. Minted’s photo calendars are a super gift too.

J.Crew is having a fantastic sale up to 55% off in some cases like this cute girl’s reversible jacket for $56 regular $128.

This jeweled button sweater is cute at $49 regular $118 and comes in 7 colors.

This Plush Sherpa Coat is also find at $98 regular $228.

More J.Crew on their site and also at my post I just did on holiday fashion– some of those things are on this sale!

Blue Mercury’s Cyber Monday is a $20 gift card for every $100 purchased and $50 for every $250. Lots of great gifts there like fragrance.. Joe Malone’s are always a hit.. This Wood Sage & Sea Salt is loved by many..

I also like their selection of Lafco candles, which come in the most beautiful scents and glass holders. The Sand & Dune is my favorite, but look at all the choices here. A super gift for hostess. The Ski House smells like winter!

Blue Mercury has all kinds of stocking stuffers, and travel and gift sets too.

Tory Burch is having 30% off anything over $250 and on most of her cute crossbodies and bags with code THANKS. I really love the design and colors of the Mcgraw bag right now..

This offer includes the adorable Tory Sport items in the sale, like this tennis bag below.

And also this ski sweater which is exclusive for Cyber Monday..

Nordstrom has a lot of exclusives for their Cyber Sale. One good deal is this Barefoot Dreams Cozy Cardigan for $73 originally $114, and it comes in 5 colors. These are so soft and are great for someone you want to stay cozy. Everyone loved this brand from college kids to grandmothers. Perfect for a day at the beach, as it is around the house.

These cute waterproof boots are $89 -regular $132 and come in black too. Perfect for running around or for the college kid or family member living in colder and wet climes.

This Kenneth Cole Coat comes in four pretty colors and regular $228 market to $139 for the sale.

These Monogram Scented candles at $19 from $28.

Bloomingdales has a Cyber Sale and most things are some percentage off. Check out their pajama department which is always good. This soft ensemble is a nice gift for a mother-in-law or sister, regular $90 on sale for $63.

..And this P.J. Salvage flannel set is just $46 down from $66. Check out all the Bloomies deals here.

Neimans also has a Cyber Monday thing going on- see all the offerings here.

Please share below if you know great find or deal on Cyber Monday!

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving week and some downtime. I’m so thankful to all you readers and friends who have visited the blog over the years. Your comments and notes mean so much to me. Thank you!

I’ll be back with a Thanksgiving recap and some cool holiday ideas too.

Kim

Holiday Cards- Minted is My Go To and Local

November 28, 2016 By kimwheeler No Comments

I know some of you are already doing your holiday shopping! I’m not there yet, but I have made a start and ordered my cards from the San Francisco company, Minted, which I’ve done for several years now. Minted is dedicated to featuring independent artists and helping them gain exposure and has some of the most creative and freshest looking cards designs, so I always find something different.

This year they are addressing envelopes for free if your place an order. That was an offer I couldn’t pass up, so last night spent an hour with the husband making an actual spreadsheet of all our address book/contact list together. It only took us 20 years of marriage to do it, but now we have it!!  I sent that off and am looking forward to getting my cards out a bit earlier this year. I won’t have to sit long hours addressing them and can take time to write notes in those for far off relatives and friends.

We were in San Francisco for Cirque du Soleil last week and had some time to kill near China Basin and the ballpark. My sons skateboarded around a bit and I cajoled them into posing for a quick photo. They aren’t matching, or even wearing their nicest clothes, but they look like authentic teenage guys. I love these impromptu photos more than any staged photo sessions and this card design was modern which I think goes well with the casual feel of our cards.

Minted always uses unexpected colors in their designs as well. I like that you can often choose the color of the writing on the card fonts as some photos clearly stand out more with cool or warm tones. I’m crazy like that, but it makes a photo sometimes.

My card was by local artist, Denise Malacrea and I received a thank you from her for ordering her design. Nice.

Another nice feature is the ability to add another photo on the back of the whole family with a little note we wrote ourselves. Max and I always dig the Peace, Love and Happiness message as so many of our friends celebrate other holidays this season and we send cards to everyone. My husband’s sis Amara took this pic of us at Natural Bridges. We went on a family trek to see the Monarch Butterfly on their migration on Black Friday instead of shopping and did the #optoutside thing. Love the movement behind that.

Today, Cyber Monday, there is 20% off everything at Minted (use code CM2016 ), including their cute calendars which I have made for my husband many times as Christmas gifts.  I use our best snaps from the past year and we really do enjoy seeing them the next year, month by month. I even cut them up after and use the pictures in frames.

For holiday gifts I like their hand drawn maps and prints featuring independent artists. Some of the San Francisco ones here..

They also make custom prints tailored to your location, city or state. Any of these would make a  memorable gift and are also on the sale today.

Minted opened a San Francisco store this year and I had a chance to pop in on my last trip up to Union Square. It’s full of lovely pillows, cute home textiles, stationery, and art. They also have people to help create a dream gallery wall, as well as customized cards and invites and more.

So do you do cards still? A few years ago I wrote this post What a Christmas Card Means about the history of them and my own memories of receiving them.  I really enjoy the tradition. Though it takes some time and effort, it’s so worth it as it’s a little gift saying thank you for being in our lives. Love that!

Well after all this weather, and so much indoor ti Well after all this weather, and so much indoor time, I’m officially sick of everything and I am ready to give the home a little refresh. Homegoods and TJMaxx have some great spring items and a promotion with items from France, Italy, etc. They can be a good source for outdoor pots, new pillows, rugs and decorative bits. It’s good time to find a ‘few’ emphasis on few, new things for the home. They carry unique items, many one offs, but you have to be a discerning shopper.. What to look for and what to avoid on this little clip.

I’ll be taking more about how to shop smart at these sort of places on the upcoming blog as well. What’s been your experience at these stores? I have had good luck and bad and I think you have to be smart about what you choose and don’t fill a home with these things.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on shopping there.

I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room today as my builder @mikemccloudconstruction shared it too. I still love the way it came out! I had saved many inspiration pictures of how I wanted this to look. I was lucky Mike helped me make this happen. A good builder who listens and has ideas as well, helps so much. I’m sharing some of the extra details up close.

I loved this blue sort of organic watery tile for a pool bath. I also knew I wanted an open shelf for all the pool towels so people could grab them on the way out the door. The @serenaandlily mirror definitely has that nautical almost porthole, sort of look and picked up the unfinished oak color. I used an RH pendant light and the sink is Victoria and Albert. The counter is from a slab of @vadaraquartz that I spilt and used in the laundry as well as the boy’s bath. I choose an inexpensive cement tile for this space and the connecting laundry/mud room which works with drippy pool feet! It’s been almost four years and all still looking great!

DM me if anyone wants details I left out! I thought I did a post on this, but maybe not! I need to do that with all the baths.

Hope you all have a good week and get some nature in the first day of spring!

Happy Monday. 💛
Are you watching the @bnpparibasopen ? I just got Are you watching the @bnpparibasopen ? I just got back from three whirlwind days with pals and we had a ball. It was so good to be in the sun and and warmth -with snow capped California mountains as a backdrop. We went in the beginning part of the tournament which we always do, and got to see Andy Murray, Sabalenka, Zverev, Raducanu, and so many fantastic other players. We basically eat, slept and breathe tennis for two days straight and we loved it! You can still catch play on the @tennischannel 🎾

I will share another Reel of all the stylish people.. Something about tennis brings out the sharpest dressers and there was excellent people watching.

If you love tennis, this is a bucket list tournament. They call the fifth slam and it’s getting crazy popular so plan a year ahead of you want to go. We reserved our hotel that was walking distance a year ago. More tips on my BNP post that I update each year.

I separated the sectional and sort of like it apar I separated the sectional and sort of like it apart. This RH couch is a LOT of maintenance and can look pretty deflated after a weekend of hanging out. In hindsight, I’d buy a couch that does not require so much fluffing and cushion alternating. I snapped this pic because it was one of the times I had the pillows looking nice on it. You also need a lot of pillows to not get swallowed up by it. I call it the great white.

The local RH actually has a cleaning team that steams and fluffs their couch and I’ve seen them before the shop opens. I found it hard to get reviews on this couch before buying because RH does not have them online and if you notice they don’t do social media… so I’m just putting it out there. I will share what I love here, but I think it helps to be transparent about what is a disappointment too.

Have you ever made a rustic style scone? These are Have you ever made a rustic style scone? These are the only kind I’ve ever made and it all started when I had one in Paris at the @rosebakeryparis years ago. My sweet mom later bought me their cookbook. I was thrilled and have made scones with their fantastic recipe ever since.

I was missing my mom and thinking about her as today is her birthday, (actually tomorrow she was a Leap Year baby) and made these yesterday. She also loved lemon so I tried a variation adding Meyer Lemon zest and juice and lots of almonds and it was SO good! These are a great treat for a rainy afternoon with tea. ☕️ Recipe is on my story.. and I’ll add it to my cookery highlight. The Breakfast Lunch Tea book from Rose Bakery is a treasure if you can still get it with many delicious recipes using whole grains and healthy ingredients.

It’s raining cats here! Def scone weather!
