White Jeans

Winter White Jeans for an Uplift

January 4, 2021 By kimwheeler 13 Comments

Have we all now spent about a million hours in our leggings and sweats? I’m not saying to totally abandon them, but just about now we may need a sea change in the clothing department. I have been cleaning out the closet as I always do about this time, and I actually had to dust my clothes. How sad is that? I am not wearing leggings for another 30 days straight again.

One kind of pant that I always want to wear in January is the white jean. I wore this combo above today from the back of the closet! I’ve done a few posts about this and I never fail to be motivated by the boost a little white gives the wardrobe. No doubt you have a pair or two. If you are in the market for some new ones, the current look is straight leg with less stretch. Look for thicker material, little or no stretch and a less tight fit for a current feel. I like to pair them with loafers, sneakers or even a boot. Paired with some luxe fabric like a chunky sweater, a tweed jacket, shearling or faux fur and you have a simple California winter chic look.

Below is some inspiration for you to change up that January look. Notice how all these jeans are not tight and are on the thicker side. The less or no stretch versions keep their shape and look more tailored.

Vogue editor Tonne Goodman wears white jeans with a dark upper half every day…

Don’t be afraid to pair contrasting dark shoes or boots to white jeans to make them work in the colder seasons.

Normally I like to go into the store and try on several pairs before I write about them. This year I went on reviews and photos to recommend some pairs that will work for winter.

The classic choice for white denim are these by AGolde for those who like a 11.5 inch rise and mostly cotton…

A classic by Frame a little longer length. Love the quality of all my Frame jeans.

This pair by AGOLDE are 100% cotton. You know they will hold shape.

I also like this wider leg look by Joe’s – 99% cotton.

Others to check out are are these 7 for All Mankind Crops, another pair by Frame, and these lovelies by Rachel Comey.

These white jeans by Old Navy are 99% cotton and seem to have the right shape and length and a raw hem which I like.

I also have these Vintage Straight Jeans by J. Crew and they are a heavy jean that holds its shape.

If you have a nice oversized cable knit or oversized man’s sweater, try that out with your jeans. Don’t be afraid to raid the men closets in your life. So many good sweaters are likely there waiting to be loved!

Other good pairings with white denim … this cotton mock neck sweater. This is a classic piece that would look terrific and very Ralph Lauren with white jeans and a pair of loafers.

This Jeni Kayne chunky knit sweater has been on my radar too. Love the way they show it with these jeans and boots.

I’m a fan of the loafer and white jean combo. These Veronica Beard loafers just got marked down…

I also love the Tory Burch loafer with the horse head chain.

And her backless loafer.

And of course Gucci loafers are a great investment. I think they cost about three times the other loafers, but they will look even better with wear and I would expect this shoe to be something that would look good for a decade at least. So if you want investment pieces for the closet, a classic loafer will never fail you.

They come in a cool off-white now too.

Have a great week and have fun breaking out of the legging rut if you can.

White Jeans for the Transitional Wardrobe

April 15, 2016 By kimwheeler 7 Comments

I kind of love this time of year. One day it’s cloudy and drizzly, and the next sunny and beautiful. I try to grab a few minutes outside and soak in some vitamin D when it’s warm. The next day it’s chilly and I’m by the fire with tea and a big sweater knowing the cool days are numbered.
The only wardrobe item that works consistently this time of year is white jeans. They are springlike, yet still warm. They feel fresher than blue jeans right now, which I’m about done with.  Aerin Lauder’s  look above is exactly how I want to dress. I love her off-handed style and the addition of the wintery leather jacket here. Another great look is a big sweater in a light beige or a heathered grey tone with white jeans. It’s all about adding a winter staple with the jeans to make it transcend the seasons.
White jeans, as a rule, do not look great super tight on most people. With the skinny jean trend still hanging on, it can be difficult to find a pair that flatters. You want your white jeans to fit, but not grab the thighs. The best look can be found with a thicker material jean, so look for pairs without super thin fabric. I prefer mine straight legged and barely clinging to the leg. I often buy them a size up. Full length or right above the ankle is the most flattering.
I like all the ways these white jeans are styled here, mainly with solids like camel, navy and black. White jeans should be a wardrobe staple and classic you can keep in rotation once you find the right pair. The French wear them all year and they can look especially great with flat sandals and a stylish sneaker or even an ankle boot.

My favorite pair I own are these Paige Verdugo white jeans. The fit is slim, but not tight and I bought a size up. They are ankle length, but at 5’4 they are full-length for me. I also love Frame denim which fits like a dream and this white Frame version is classic, not too skinny and is again longer than shown. I’m also eyeing this pair by Goldsign, and these relaxed Kick jeans by Current/Elliott with raw cuffs, which is more trendy, but cute!

Making White Jeans Elegant

May 13, 2014 By kimwheeler No Comments

Love this casual chic look on Christy Turlington.
Right now it’s the school year’s end, and almost Summer and there are so many school events and gatherings.
I’m always stumped about what to wear to these things.
Dresses can feel sometimes too fancy.
You can easily throw on the same jeans or yoga pants, but why not have a little polish?
Sometimes just a bit more effort makes you feel good and people take notice.

It can be as easy as upgrading to white jeans!

Last week, I tried to dress up a bit for the school book fair I was working.
I threw on some new white jeans, simple Patagonia sandals from many years ago, and a Joie silk sweater with a Banana Republic leather tote I love.
Surprisingly, my friend Elizabeth was in something very similar, white jeans with a soft grey sweater.

I realized when I saw her, how much I adore the beauty of this understated combo. Also, my friend Elizabeth has this simple and elegant stuff down to a science.

Her addition of pretty pewter braided sandals with the palest polished feet hands and toes looked so Jackie Kennedy to me.

Take note of those sandals and pale pedicure!

Elizabeth has the kind of style that makes me want to chuck it all and redo my home and wardrobe!

Her hair always has that just blown out look and she usually carries a luxe looking handbag with a simple design. She inspires me to strive to look a little more finished with my hair and clothes.

We tried to take a selfie- NOT! You get the idea though..White jeans and a pullover.
Take Elizabeth’s cue, white jeans with a loose sweater is the perfect combo for May.
Add in a flat sandal and you are finished and ready to go.
When I stress about what to wear to an event, I need to remember this clean, simple look always exudes taste and class.
You just need a few tweaks to keep it from being bland….

Upgrading from simple to simply elegant:

Pair with a silk or linen sweater vs. cotton. (It’s worth the extra money for the wear you will get and the feel and expensive look.)

White jeans vs. regular jeans.

Pretty flat sandals vs. flip-flops. ( I know it’s easier to step in flip-flops, but a flat sandal is a game changer for the whole look.)

A tote or bag in a soft leather or solid vs. a complicated heavy or designer logo bag.

A fresh natural manicure and pedi with Essie’s Mademoiselle or pinky sheer vs. bright, white, dark or frosted.

Clean shiny hair done and styled.

Minimal and simple jewelry.

I just replaced my old white jeans from a few years ago that were looking tight.
It’s good to refresh this basic every year or so.
These are my new white jeans that I just found and loving.
I was also contemplating these Paige ones.
I’d love another pair of white jeans with this boyfriend fit , and if you are short as I am, these J Crew ones are a terrific price right now.
I also love these dressier streamlined white crops from Karen Kane.

Remember the addition of the pretty flat sandal makes this look more Cannes than Santa Cruz.
One more tip: Always buy your white jeans a size up. Skintight is never good in light colors.
Stay chic!
x Kim

I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room I thought I’d reshare our pool bath/powder room today as my builder @mikemccloudconstruction shared it too. I still love the way it came out! I had saved many inspiration pictures of how I wanted this to look. I was lucky Mike helped me make this happen. A good builder who listens and has ideas as well, helps so much. I’m sharing some of the extra details up close.

I loved this blue sort of organic watery tile for a pool bath. I also knew I wanted an open shelf for all the pool towels so people could grab them on the way out the door. The @serenaandlily mirror definitely has that nautical almost porthole, sort of look and picked up the unfinished oak color. I used an RH pendant light and the sink is Victoria and Albert. The counter is from a slab of @vadaraquartz that I spilt and used in the laundry as well as the boy’s bath. I choose an inexpensive cement tile for this space and the connecting laundry/mud room which works with drippy pool feet! It’s been almost four years and all still looking great!

DM me if anyone wants details I left out! I thought I did a post on this, but maybe not! I need to do that with all the baths.

Hope you all have a good week and get some nature in the first day of spring!

Are you watching the @bnpparibasopen ? I just got Are you watching the @bnpparibasopen ? I just got back from three whirlwind days with pals and we had a ball. It was so good to be in the sun and and warmth -with snow capped California mountains as a backdrop. We went in the beginning part of the tournament which we always do, and got to see Andy Murray, Sabalenka, Zverev, Raducanu, and so many fantastic other players. We basically eat, slept and breathe tennis for two days straight and we loved it! You can still catch play on the @tennischannel 🎾

I will share another Reel of all the stylish people.. Something about tennis brings out the sharpest dressers and there was excellent people watching.

I separated the sectional and sort of like it apar I separated the sectional and sort of like it apart. This RH couch is a LOT of maintenance and can look pretty deflated after a weekend of hanging out. In hindsight, I’d buy a couch that does not require so much fluffing and cushion alternating. I snapped this pic because it was one of the times I had the pillows looking nice on it. You also need a lot of pillows to not get swallowed up by it. I call it the great white.

The local RH actually has a cleaning team that steams and fluffs their couch and I’ve seen them before the shop opens. I found it hard to get reviews on this couch before buying because RH does not have them online and if you notice they don’t do social media… so I’m just putting it out there. I will share what I love here, but I think it helps to be transparent about what is a disappointment too.

Have you ever made a rustic style scone? These are Have you ever made a rustic style scone? These are the only kind I’ve ever made and it all started when I had one in Paris at the @rosebakeryparis years ago. My sweet mom later bought me their cookbook. I was thrilled and have made scones with their fantastic recipe ever since.

I was missing my mom and thinking about her as today is her birthday, (actually tomorrow she was a Leap Year baby) and made these yesterday. She also loved lemon so I tried a variation adding Meyer Lemon zest and juice and lots of almonds and it was SO good! These are a great treat for a rainy afternoon with tea. ☕️ Recipe is on my story.. and I’ll add it to my cookery highlight. The Breakfast Lunch Tea book from Rose Bakery is a treasure if you can still get it with many delicious recipes using whole grains and healthy ingredients.

It’s raining cats here! Def scone weather!
