Good morning pals. I was dead tired putting this together last night, but I thought I’d throw a few of the best pics together and do a little round-up anyway so don’t kill me if I left your favorites out… and there could be typos..

What did you all think of the show? I thought it was a little odd without a host to be honest. It seemed to be missing some flow and some of the acceptance speeches were droning on while people read the names of every human they’ve ever come in contact with. It was a bit of a mess at the beginning. Then it seemed to gain some rhythm and it always ends well when there are some inspiring acceptance speeches. Olivia Colman proved again she is the most likable and cute actor out there. Rami Malek is darling and I was so happy he won and he brought his film wife who is now his real-life girlfriend. Barbara Streisand had the best intro to a film – Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlannsman saying she loved it for being funny, entertaining and telling the truth, something really needed now. I so want to see it. In my opinion the best parts of the night- The Queen opening with the original band members and Adam Lambert- and Gaga and Bradley Cooper singing their Shadows song..

In the end Green Book won, which had some controversy, but I thought it still a great film and eye-opening about a lot of things people have no clue were happening in America just a few decades ago. Personally though, I thought Bohemian Rhapsody was amazing – the story, the music and I kind of was hoping it won.
Some of the best looks of the night…

I thought this dress was beautiful on Kelly Ripa.

Not the best looks these people have ever worn…

Things are changing though. You can tell people are caring less about being ‘red carpet’ perfect and are dressing to please themselves. This seems a result of the backlash a few years ago when all the carpet was about was the designers and not the work these people did. Now we are seeing more individuality and less styled people.
Some cute couples who did their own THING…

Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa in pink. Pharrell in what looks like Scout uniform with his wife.
Some of the after-party looks are actually better than the awards show…

Tell me your thoughts on the show. Who did you think looked great or who needed help? Did your favorites win?
Have a good week!
Kim
I always love your insight into the show! Thanks for taking the time to do it right afterwards while your impressions are still fresh. Mostly, I liked the natural look, and because I am now a fan of the new ‘oversized’ trend, Gemma Chan’s dress was my favorite.
Andrea, I always love what you think as a designer. I agree that the natural look is always timeless and more flattering! Of all the dresses Gemma Chan’s looks the most fun to wear! I know there must be some kind of subliminal message that is going on with all these oversized clothes for women.. Maybe because we are in the ME TOO era it’s another way of saying do not touch me. LOL… Whatever it is, I like it.
Have a great week Andrea! xo
I did not even notice there was NO HOST!I tuned in a little LATE!
WHY DO THEY HAVE TO THANK THEIR PARENTS?!!!
I find that NICE BUT TOO MUCH………..it all comes out kinda GOOFY!
THEY ARE ACTORS for the MOST PART and what they say should be STAR QUALITY!
THE DRESSES……..well WHY do they put woman in TRAINS when they are in these little THEATER SEATS and have to climb over PEOPLE!IT’s so TACKY kicking the train OUT OF THE WAY and telling people you are stepping on my DRESS!!!!!!!
Once again NOT A STELLAR PERFORMANCE!!!!
I take to heart THE DETAILS.Perhaps, people LIKE the STAR being NORMAL?
I LOVED HELEN MIRREN! SHE IS ALWAYS A FAVORITE from HAIR TO WHAT SHE SAYS TO HER DRESS!!!!!!!She gets MORE GORGEOUS WITH AGE!Now that CELINE DRESS I thought was terrible!Only because it made her BOOBS look ENORMOUS and maybe they are what do I know but the under arm area was too big and that BIG SEQUIN COLLAR was TOO BIG!IT was like it was holding up her NECK!!!!!!!!!
Now this last photo of RENEE is a KILLER DRESS!THAT NECKLINE ON HER IS BEYOND!THose shoes her natural FACE LOOK………………JUST A WOW!
LAST COMMENT……….GAGA……….seems all very HUMBLE and authentic, BUT there is SOMETHING ABOUT HER I CANNOT STAND!!!!!!!!!!Can not put my FINGER on it maybe someone can HELP me…….everyone seems TO LOVE HER, BUT ME!
HAPPY MONDAY!
XX
Contessa I think a lot of people liked the no host thing, so maybe it will be the new way. Yes long trains were pretty, but seemed impractical if you had to walk up the stairs and over seats right? I still like the Celine on Brie and I do think Helen was beautiful.. Gaga – people have strong opinions about her! xo
The Oscars are the pinnacle to award season for me. They say the ratings are falling over the years but I still love it.
Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet in matching pink outfits stopped me in my tracks, but Jason is a favorite of mine so I’m a little biased.
Regina King in was my favorite of the night but I also loved Kacey Musgraves’ ethereal tulle-layered gown also wowed me.
I didn’t like Charlize Theron’s outfit. Maybe the dark hair is for a movie role, but she is so angular, it comes off severe. And the gown was so anti-climactic. She wears more exciting dresses in her Dior commercials so the slate blue column was disappointing to me. Even the gorgeous diamonds she had on couldn’t help.
The hands down BEST thing that happened last night was Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga duet. It’s was everything I wanted from that performance. I love their connection and find that song so moving.
Overall, I didn’t mind not having a host. It seems that award shows are moving toward having increasingly provocative hosts for award shows and I was grateful for the break from that artificial tension. To me, it left room for Spike Lee’s joy at winning the Oscar for Blackkklansman and Javier Bardem’s comment that there are no walls that can restrain ingenuity and talent.
Such a fun night though! I love seeing your thoughts and photos Kim! Thanks for sharing!
Leslie, Thanks so much for your notes. I know Lisa Bonet and Jason were so cute and live on the Red Carpet even better. They are both nice and Lisa gets more beautiful with age it seems. Good for Jason for stepping out in something different too. For sure the Spike Lee win was the highlight and his speech too. I loved his purple clothes and forgot to mention they were a tribute to Prince. Why is that film not playing around here still??
Thank you for mentioning Javier Bardem. One thing I liked very much about these Oscars was the inclusion of so many artists from Mexico. They are our brothers and sisters and so very close to us. We love their culture and yet vilify the people with all the wall BS. They have so much talent down there and and we need to embrace them and appreciate that so much more. I was glad to see Mexico get kudos and recognition.
Charlize was not great in that outfit and looked too thin – maybe it was the dark hair, but after her great role in Tess as a normal American woman, I was hoping to see a little of that. Too bad she did not get recognized for a fantastic job on that film.
Gaga and Bradley were amazing. Thanks Leslie for chiming in! Love to hear your opinions! xo
