Hello, I’m on my fourth day of Covid as I write this and though I could be resting, I’m feeling grateful today for sunshine and getting better and I wanted to share something I am passionate about- white shirts!

Today I am joining a stylish group to talk spring and summer fashion and at the end you can hop over and visit their blogs and see their thoughts too.
White shirts were top of my mind when I think of lighter dressing. I love a white shirt and now that warmer days are on the way, I’ve pulled out all my white blouses, laundered them, and have them front and center in my wardrobe.

Why are white shirts so chic?
They are universally flattering. It’s like one of those photography umbrellas held up to the face, but by your shirt!
They go with everything.
Layers! Need I say more?
They flatter much more than a t-shirt as they skim the body!
Classic style.. Katherine Hepburn, Diane Keaton, Lauren Hutton, Sharon Stone..the list goes on. ( I almost forgot Carolina Herrera!! She is the white shirt queen.)
I love seeing all my white shirts together..
Nothing beats a closet clean-out. DO this before you shop. Try on every piece too. I love collecting pretty pieces..Some I have had for a long time..

I personally love to wear my eyelet and lacy blouses with something tougher like distressed jeans or a leather or camo pants..

Some of the newer shorter and fuller shapes can be fun too.. Less tucking, and they look good with high waisted pants and skirts. If the sleeves are too big, just roll them up. Details like the poet’s sleeve and wider cut shirts can give you an updated look while still being a classic piece..

My most favorite white shirt currently is this which has poet’s sleeves. It’s a newer look with jeans and a sweater over the shoulders for cooler days. It can also work as above (tied with a knot), with a skirt and slides for spring/ summer. They no longer sell this shirt at Banana, but a nearly identical one is here at Anthro, my Seychelles Slides here, and the skirt I’ve had for a while. (This pink look was going to be my Easter outfit before I got sick… I’ll trot it out again.)

Let’s see some inspiration and ideas for styling your white shirt.

All these images and more on my Pinterest Board, White Shirt Style.
A few I like below…
I chose a few classic and also some newer styles and shapes. You need classic, modern, and feminine white shirts to round out the closet. If you’re in the market, these are a few good ones..

The other button-ups I really like are from Grayson. I have their Hero shirt in tissue cotton, but it comes in many different white fabrics here. I love their fit and quality.

A reader reminded me also of AYR, a wonderful California brand that has the Deep End Cotton Oxford, below, that has a brilliant design for a half-tuck, or not. I am ordering this! I also LOVE their denim which you choose your rise, length etc. I recently bought The Pop jeans.

I hope you are rethinking about how to style your white shirts. Look for inspiration and play around and don’t be afraid to raid the guy’s closet for an oversized look… Most importantly, clean out for spring, purge what no longer works and see what good pieces will update everything and last! Think less things and better and shop consignment and vintage. Some of the best pieces are like new and beautiful additions to a unique look and wardrobe!
By the way, I’m doing okay after three hard days of Covid. I’m thankful I was boosted and vaxxed. I can’t imagine this without it. I haven’t been sick in years and I’m grateful to be nearly normal on the fourth day…My husband most likely brought it back with him on a recent trip out of state. Take care everyone!

Hi Jackie! I just love them! Thanks so much. I’m glad you like the post. Your white shirts will look good for years!xx

Thank you for all the white blouse inspiration! Do you mind sharing source for you cute pink eyelit skirt?
Hi Maureen, I have had it a while and I think I found it at TJ Maxx. I wasn’t able to find a similar one online, but will link here if I can!
So many great outfit ideas! I LOVE my AYR deep end white shirt. Such a great silhouette. Can I ask what brand of camo jacket you’re wearing in the post. What a classic piece!
Laura, Thank you for mentioning AYR! I have their jeans and love them. I had forgotten about their shirt collection. I will add that to this mix.
The camo jacket is a from a few years ago and is Sanctuary. I bought it at Anthropologie. I did see it’s on Thredup though and there is one here in a small https://www.thredup.com/product/women-cotton-sanctuary-green-jacket/120756775?query_id=630147847543406594&result_id=630147899359862784&suggestion_id=630147852920545280&sizing_id=559%2C563%2C10778%2C20778%2C782%2C10790%2C20790%2C791%2C10795%2C20795%2C10798%2C20798

They even look cooler after a few years of wear! Nice you can get it for a fraction of what I paid too. xo
Thank you so much for the links! I have ThredUp sales credits so it’s practically free. Always look forward to your posts. Hope you’re feeling better very soon!
Yay that’s the best! So glad and hope one of those works. I need to go o Thredup more. It’s such a treasure trove of undiscovered gems! Thanks so much Laura for reading. I’m on the mend slowly! xo
I’m totally into a white shirt and my closet is full just like yours! I spend the time ironing them perfectly and then that fresh feeling when you dress yourself is the best. Carolina Herrera is the best example there is.
One thing I’m questioning is the clunky slides/sandals which aren’t flattering on anyone at any age. To me they ruin any outfit and I can’t understand the reason for them. They aren’t balancing an outfit, just calling attention to themselves for no reason. I’ll be glad to see clunk and lug and platform disappear ASAP!
Hi Leanne! I agree. Nothing makes me happier than seeing pretty ironed shirts ready to go.. You are so right! I forgot to add Carolina Herrera! Love her.
I know the big slides are everywhere. I do like the slides for comfort. They do have a modern look, but like any chunky shoe, aren’t always flattering. I think it’s up to your own choice, so look for prettier and more delicate looks which are out there. So true, they do scream ‘look at me’ in an ensemble.
I think they come from the whole idea of wanting to feel comfortable and the schlick of them, like sneakers with dresses, are a bit of anti-establishment to fashion norms that women can go for comfort, but its doesn’t always work! Maybe you can find something in the middle like the slides I wore in this post which aren’t chunky really, but are so comfy? Thanks for your comment! Keep wearing the white shirts. xo
Kim,
I love your white shirts and the way you describe them….an eyelet or lacy blouse with something tougher….perfection right there! I have a few and I think I need to add a few more. So perfect for travel too! It goes with everything from a pair of jeans to a swimsuit! Love love love your style Kim! How did I not know you had Covid? I hope you are doing well. It seems everyone has it! Better to have it while at home than while traveling! I’ll check in with you later!
xx
Annie, You are so kind. You inspired me with your Alex Mill shirt in Khaki you wore here in California! I added a white one to the shopping options here. You and I love our classics!
Thanks I’m doing okay. I had three bad days and turned a corner yesterday. I am so glad I had been vaxxed and boosted. This was not fun. I haven’t been sick in years and really careful. Seems like my husband may have brought it back from a trip to Oregon.. Can’t wait to read you post! xo
YES, white shirts are IT on every one BUT ME!Somehow I can NOT pull it off.
What a fabulous post however…………
You are ALWAYS cleaning OUT!
I am jealous!I clean out MAYBE once a YEAR………..as I LOVE everything I own or it wouldn’t be in my closet!
I suppose as I age I will let GO of a FEW things but today I am cleaning out PHOTOS which is VERY HARD for me TO DO!

Hi Kim, I am sorry Covid caught you but so glad you are feeling better. I am considering a second booster. At a medical appointment yesterday I asked the doctor his thoughts on Covid. He had very strict protocols in place in his office. His opinion was that until we have a Tamiflu- like Covid medication, we will continue to deal with infections.
I too love white shirts so thank you for sharing the photos of the different styles. It’s already in the 90’s here in West Texas. Yikes!
I love this reminder on how to do white shirts! I buy them
then don’t wear them! I loved the look with camo! I love
camo and thought wow I could do that! I need to try
some of these, I love the look and since I attract any
kind of spill I stay away from white to often!😂
Glad you are feeling better and that you were vaccinated
and boosted! It is still a reminder we aren’t done with
Covid. Take care, now off to try some of those looks
and maybe purchase a couple new ones! I live in Arizona
so white is good, its just figuring out without long sleeves
in the 100’s!!
Wow, Kim, I thought I had a lot of white shirts but nothing compared to your fabulous collection. I’ve been weeding out my closet and a few need to go. I just ordered the AYR cotton Oxford. You’re going to get me in trouble. It’s been a fun, leisurely morning reading through all the spring style posts. So good! xo
Hi Kim, I’m glad to hear that you are coming out the other side of Covid – very frustrating to get it at this late stage, especially when you’ve been so careful. I think we’re all a bit resigned to getting it at some point.
Thanks for the styling tips re. white shirts – I have a few, but could do with a couple more. Do you have any special tips for keeping them looking bright and fresh?
Patricia, Thank you feel like I’m turning a corner, but still testing positive and very tired. I have been so careful and here in Nor Cal we wear masks all over! I hope you stay safe. I love white shirts. I’ve been watching Patrick the Laundry guy and he recommends things like Oxyclean or oxygen bleach, not chlorine bleach ever. The oxygen bleach is supposed to fresh brighten and remove stains! It’s good for sheets too. He recommends small amounts of it and also not to wash in too hot water. Hope that helps! xo
More Patrick here.. He’s got a Discovery Channel show now and a Youtube channel. I found him through Juliet. https://laundryevangelist.com
Hi! Love all your white shirts and your options to style them. I have a bunch and never wear them.. I will look at them with fresh eyes today! I have to go in to the office next week and now I’m thinking a white shirt, broken-in jeans and my pink linen blazer…
I am enjoying all these spring fashion posts!
Just want to pop in to suggest good old Borax for keeping your whites white. My mother recommended it for washing diapers more than 30 years ago (yes, cloth diapers, and my kids were less than two years apart..) and it does a great job on everything. It’s a natural alternative to color-safe bleach, and a lot less expensive. Give it a try!
Oh my gosh Kim I did not know you had covid! We just hope we don’t get it here!! I am glad you are feeling better. I think we are all bound to get it!! Totally agree with you about white shirts. I could never wear them until my hair was gray!!
Cindy, I’m improving each day. I think you’ll be good in Hawaii. People there were great about masks and personal space and the arm weather can help..I’d still mask on the plane- and in small places. Have a wonderful time Cindy. xo Oh and with your beautiful hair white shirts are extra good.
Kim, you have a fabulous collection of white shirts. I’ve got a few and need to get them out more often, they are fun to mix up and can do casual or more dressed up. Thanks for the reminder. I like to shop second hand sometimes too. I’m trying not to add a lot more to my closet, I have so much already. And you’re right, buying better things and less things is the best idea. I try to do that, but don’t always succeed. So sorry you are sick, get well soon!
Thanks Rhoda! Was fun doing this with you all. I love that you used last year’s looks and updated them! We should all try that. I agree I want less and not more. xo
Love your collection of white shirts. Such a wonderful garment yo collect and build on for all kinds of occasions! Very chic and very you! Love it Kim! Hope you’re feeling better xx
Thanks Sarah! Kind of like your beautiful dresses! xo
Hi Kim,
I’m glad you’re on the mend. I’m so sorry you got caught by that darned COVID. Max needs to make it up to you big time!!
I have a section in my closet that looks just like yours – a bunch of white shirts that I mostly wear when the weather is warmer. I just bought a really pretty lace one that I’m really excited to put on one of these days. It’s shorter so I’m hoping I can pull it off. I hate those really high rise pants but I think I have a pair of jeans that will work with it. I just couldn’t resist it and now I need to figure out how to make it work!
I’ve always struggled with button downs, they shift and slide backwards. But blouses and softly tailored shirts work, do I need more? No. Do I want more, yes!!
Hope every day you feel better and better.
XO Heidi
Hi Heidi, Lucky I can write in a robe and slippers! Your lace blouse sounds like a lovely find. Can’t wait to see it. Jeans + Lace is always a good look too. Thank you I’m almost all better thankfully.xx
Kim,
First of all, I’m happy to hear that you’re vaxxed and boosted and getting back to 100%. What an excellent post about the classic white shirts, I agree white shirts are universally flattering. Your post reminds me of all the great options of wearing a classic white shirt and what great quality brands to consider, thank you!
Hi Eugenia, Thank you.Loved your gorgeous colors and pieces on your post. Really fun! Adore your choices and accessories. xo
Oh no! I’m sorry you got Covid! Somehow I have managed to avoid catching it, I need to get a booster. They keep changing the guidelines though but I think once I turn 65 in August (yikes) I for sure need one.
You have a great collection of white shirts! I wish I looked good in white, but I always feel like it washes me out so I avoid it and opt for white bottoms instead.
Feel better soon!
Linda
Hi Linda, I know thank you..nearly better. I would get another booster maybe? I had my last one in November. Maybe if I had had the latest this wouldn’t have hit me. You know white bottoms are wonderful too. It’s great you know what works for you. That’s the best. xo
I hope you are feeling better, Kim. This is a fabulous post in spite of you being under the weather! I love white shirts too! Thanks for the great resources!!!
Thanks Mary Ann! So fun doing this with you stylish bunch. So many good ideas from everyone!
