It’s time for the monthly style report with Cindy! It’s just Cindy and I for now and Sarah is very missed. To begin 2023, we are focusing on leisure and comfort wear. I’ll show my favorite workout pieces, cozy go-tos and pjs I love!
This has perhaps been the darkest, coldest and wettest winter we have ever had, and I feel like I’ve worn more comfy clothes than ever! The boundaries between leisure wear and athletic wear are getting more blurred and things that were once for working out are now what some choose to wear everyday. I still prefer a track pant over a legging for an all day outfit, but companies are offering things that are a bit of both..
I start to wonder are jeans going away in the future? The younger generation loves their leggings and sweats and when I see the local school let out it is rare to see a pair of jeans anymore on anyone! Once I started looking, it shocked me that no one had them on! How do you feel about the athleisure space? Are you a legging lover or sweats or do you live in pajamas?
I added a few new things to my ‘athleisure’ wardrobe this year and a some pjs too.
My pajamas are used so much during this winter months. I can stay in them for hours on a cold day! For Christmas Max gave me a pair from my favorite store, Liberty of London. They are the Floral Eve print and made of the smoothest and softest cotton. A nice surprise all the way from England!

I was lucky to get lovely pjs as a gift from a friend as well, also from England, so I feel like my pajama drawer is set! I love a pretty set of pjs and you should have some nice ones in your drawer to begin the new year if you don’t already. I love seeing a drawer with fresh pajamas to wear!
These from Papinelle are cute gingham… and the linen ones from Serena & Lily are also faves and I have two sets of them. The blue gingham is on sale and they also have a tan which I love.

These pjs from Barefoot Dreams make for the softest loungers in three colors..and you can totally wear these pieces out too..

Recently track pants have been my thing for working and hanging out at home. I mentioned these Tory Burch track pants on the last post. I think they are perfect for travel, a comfy look that’s not sloppy and can be dressed up with a soft sweater and under a coat, or just with a sweatshirt at home. They flatter and feel great, and don’t wrinkle! Everyone needs a pair of these in the wardrobe and if you dislike leggings, these are a good compromise.

My sweater was bought on sale from Rails – it’s 40% off now here. ( Rails is having a markdown sale now here .)
Vuori is another company that has come onto my radar this past year. They are California based and have sort of a cult status around here. Everyone loves this brand for its softness. The fabrics are made of a recycled polyester and I was swayed by them too when I popped in the store to buy my men some things for Christmas.
I came home with these cute Sedona Sweatpants in the nicest stone color. ( Looks white on the website.) I took them to Hawaii and love wearing these with my OluKai black flip-flops and a Tail black jacket I’ve had forever.. I also like them with sneakers and a sweater. Many people also love Vuori’s jogger pant for a day-to day go to.

My go-to for workouts is a pair of Lululemon black leggings with side pockets. I think mine are nearly 4 years old and going strong. This tank is my favorite as it covers the backside. While at Vuori I bought this uber soft Jacket in a cantaloupe color to pair with it. It also comes in black and I like it so much I am thinking of getting it also. It feels feather light and soft and is like a hug! This isn’t a jacket for the elements, but rather after or on the way to a workout, for travel or for springtime! You won’t want to take this jacket off.

I can never have enough black tanks like this Zella on left, and also fun is this by Sweaty Betty..

Well that’s my take on athleisure dressing.. I hope you got some new ideas or thoughts on what’s out there and what you might need to up your look in the new year.
…Now please pop by Cindy’s blog to see what she is sharing!
Happy New Year!

I agree that that the younger girls seem to really wear nothing else but leggings and cropped tops or shorter fleece …not a fan. Would struggle with that as a parent. I can hear my mom now…I couldn’t get out the door in a modest “mini” skirt let alone something akin to long underwear. I do have the TB track pants bookmarked now so thank you. They look like they would be fun for travel. My family is very into Vuori too. All the boys incl hubby use it for the gym. Joggers and crews/hoodies for hanging out. The tops are so nice. I have the workout tights and joggers. The joggers are usually what I wear for flying and long car rides. I was checking out that jacket at our local store but didn’t like the price. I have the linen Serena & Lily blue pjs bookmarked … I wonder if they are still in stock. Sorry for my comment dump…lol. A question…the macrame piece behind you in one of your pics …source? Did you make?
Jackie, It is all I see too!! I have to get a pair of those Vuori joggers as You are the third person who loves them. The TB ones are a bit thicker, but still comfy. The S&L gingham are in stock still.. I also have them in my cart!
Thank you about the macrame piece. I love it and surprisingly found it last year at Homegoods. I just loved the colors and it filled a space that seems bare and kind of was my vibe. I think they still have them occasionally!
My husband and I both love Vuori. We have pieces that are probably 5 years old, and still going strong. That fabric is magic! Cost per wear is phenomenal.
My oldest joggers have a tiny hole in the knee. I took a fall on a sidewalk, and scraped my knee across the pavement. What I am really surprised by is that the hole isn’t visible unless I stretch the fabric, and that I wash and wear them still, and that the hole has never grown any larger.
I also like that if I’m having a busy day, I can wear them to the gym with a tank, and then throw on a sweater or jacket, change my shoes, and go on with my day!
Kim, I’m very curious to hear your take on the Big Island. We’ve been to Kauai several times, and want to try somewhere different. We’re pretty low key when we travel, and want to avoid Maui and Oahu. Did the volcano eruption cause any difficulty?
Lisa, My sons and husband love them too! Glad to hear they wear well and you have had them for years. Love that even with a hole, they stayed strong!
I love the Big Island and of all the islands it’s our favorite because of the beautiful beaches, and less crowds. The volcanos have finished erupting and so there was no issue when we were there. We were there a few times when one was erupting and it didn’t seem to be a problem. If you go, I recommend the Kailua-Kona side and we love the Mauna Kea and places by there. The condo we just stayed in at Waikoloa was great too.Are you looking for hotels or condos? I am working on a post for The Big Island, but if you need recommendations sooner, I can send a few!
Thank you Kim!
I’ll look forward to your post, we’re thinking about Hawaii in the fall, so lots of time to plan.
Lisa, That’s a great time to go! Hopefully, I’ll get my post out soon.
I wear athleisure wear almost daily now . I never have found jeans
comfortable for all day wear. I do wear them out of course. I don’t
wear pajamas but love Vuori performance joggers! They are so
soft but I can wear them out for a quick errand. Athleta is my go
to for both workout clothes and travel. I save leggings
for my workouts and wear joggers, track pants or their variety of
pants . They have so many great looks that can be a nice casual
look and they travel well. Eileen Fisher is also my dressier casual
wear. Might be myage 😜 now that I am retired.
I do want to look pulled together and not like I just left the gym.
Here in Scottsdale I am amazed at the majority of women,
all ages, wearing leggings. It seems they are here to stay.
The pandemic has changed our world in so many ways.
Happy New Year, glad the posts are back!
Hi Char! Those joggers seem to be the thing. I may need to add a pair as your the second person to say they are their daily pants! Joggers and track pants seem to be a great alternative to the legging for a daily pant.
Thanks so much and happy 2023!!
When I have no place to go and I have things to do in the house I sometimes can stay in my pajamas and 1 o’clock! I’m not being lazy it’s just sometimes I don’t want to stop and change’!! I can be very productive in my pajamas!
Martha I get that! I do my best work in pajamas. Why mess with a good thing?
xo
LEGGINGS under CAFTANS only for me.
LEISURE is hard to find for me to be long enough in the top.The sets never tend to be long enough.
CUTE PJ’s GOOD JOB MAX!
XX
Love leggings under tunics and caftans too! I will tell Max you approved ! xx
Those Liberty PJ’s are the best! Lucky girl! I too stay in mine for ages on a miserable Winters Day. In fact, I often say to my hubby, it’s Pyjama Sunday 😂 and I’m in them all day!
Thanks Sarah! Pajama Sunday sounds nice. I need to do that! Miss you Sarah. xx
Wow great questions and great pieces! Currently I’m wearing Vuori performance joggers and their performance hoody every day. I work out every day and if I have to go downtown locally I don’t change! I do love my Lululemon align tights with pockets, which are go-tos for my workout and quick errands as well. (I’m retired and my day consists of workouts (walking, elliptical, weights) and painting in the garage. Very informal.
I will never give up jeans. Ever. True California girl 😉 I’d still be wearing them even if they weren’t a trend. I love that there are so many variations now because when I was young, there were men’s/boy’s Levis. Period.
I really like your idea of the Tory Burch track pants for travel. Great idea. Love your cashmere sweater too but don’t look great in T-necks. The pjs look fabulous.
I really enjoy your blog Kim. Thanks so much.
Hi Sally! I saw those Performance Joggers and they seem very nice. I love your daily routine..plus the painting! I’m with you, they will have to pry the jeans our of my cold dead hands before I give them up! It must be part of being a Californian!!
Aww thank you and Happy New Year!
Good morning, Kim! Love your pjs so much. Great job, Max. You look adorable. I’m not sure jeans are on their way out, I see my 21 year old niece in them all the time. Of course she’s in workout leggings just as often. I admit to spending most of my time in joggers of some sort … I don’t like leggings except for working out. I guess I don’t like anything tight around my legs. Happy that skinny jeans have come and gone. Anyhoo … your track pants look chic and comfy and loose in the leg while still having a slim fit. That Vuori jacket is gorgeous … I’m tempted to buy it in the Laurel color. What a perfect day to wake up and find your cozy post … and in your honor I’m staying in my joggers all day. xo
I’mm glad to hear a young person loves jeans! They look so cute in them. I agree I can’t do anything tight anymore, except the workout leggings and I don’t wear them for long..I love that Laurel color in the jacket! Aw I enjoyed your workout post too! Take care and stay cozy! xo
Hi Kim,
Max did so well gifting you such a beautiful pajama set for Christmas. What a sweetheart, he has good taste. They look so cozy on you, just perfect.
My honey’s birthday is next month and I had his gift all figured out months ago then he came up with I need pajamas. If Max needs or likes 100% Peruvian Pima cotton pajamas Daniel Buchler
has nice ones and loungers. I bought a set for my honey many years ago and he has worn them for at least 15 years and he is just getting ready to say so long to them. They too were a birthday gift.
I enjoyed your post.
Hi Katherine! I know I was lucky he did a good job! Thank you for the recommendation for Daniel Buchler! Pima cotton is so nice isn’t it? That’s a fantastic gift idea.. Max’s birthday is win March and always loves cozy things.. Thanks so much and Happy New Year! xo
Hi Kim,
The pj’s from Liberty are so cute…Max did good! I struggle to find bottoms that are long enough because I am fairly tall. Lately I have been wearing some Old Navy fleece lined leggings to bed because it’s been so cold! My husband bought me a Johnny Was robe for Christmas that I love. (he had me pick it out lol)
I haven’t purchased Vuori yet, although I did get a catalog of theirs in the mail recently. Some day I will have to try out one of their pieces. I have a lot of Lululemon and Athleta work out attire. I live in them half the time! My daughter bought my husband a pair of Lululemon shorts for Christmas. He didn’t know they made men’s clothing! Their quality can’t be beat.
I feel so bad for California right now. Poor Santa Cruz and Aptos, looks like Santa Barbara was hit hard as well. Luckily we are not near the coast. San Diego is currently getting the tail end of the storm everyone had up North. Hope you get some relief soon.
Linda
Linda, I was sort of surprised he got them! I can understand about the pj length as I am short. I think they need lengths.. I usually wear mine long and sometimes dragging.. How exciting to get a Johnny Was robe. I just got the catalog and saw a gorgeous robe on there! My guys love Lululemon too.
Glad you are safe. This has been the craziest storm. xo
Interesting! My grand girls, 18 to 25, said recently, “ GiGi, the only people who wear jeans are older ladies”! Really?
Gayle, too funny! I just think of jeans and think youthful.. Times are changing, but honestly no sweats or leggings will ever be as cool as jeans to me.
Kim! I hope jeans are not going out by way of athleisure clothes! I agree there are many great options, but I still feel more “dressed” in jeans! My kids both work from home and it seem they never wear real clothes! Haha
Love your Liberty of London pjs.
Xx
Annie, I agree! I will always love them most of all. My oldest still loves jeans, but Grif does mostly shorts and joggers.. The young kids love their comfort!
xoxo
Hi Kim,
Thank you for your lovely post. I was in London in November and went many times to Liberty my favorite store. They had this amazing Christmas section with the ceiling covered in little lights like a tunnel, very magical. The storms in California are something else and luckily where we are no damage was done but the water coming off the mountains is intense. What was a dry bed last week is now a gushing river. So good pjs weather!!
I have Vuori on my birthday list for the family fingers crossed!
Take care and a happy and healthy 2023 to you and yours xo
Hi Francesca, Isn’t Liberty a dream? I call it the mothership! I can’t wait to get back there. I haven’t been since 2019. I’m so glad to hear you love it too. I would love to see it at Christmas.
Gosh isn’t the storm something? I just can’t get over the amount of rain either! Stay safe.. and hope you get some Vuori for your birthday!
Happy New Year! xo
Kim, I am not sure about jeans being on their way out but I definitely see a shift in the way people dress. I love all of your options for pjs, comfy outfits for travel, and working out. Off to check out all of your fun links to see if there is something I need.
