Today, ideas for festive dressing and pretty pieces to create a chic holiday look!
It’s our holiday edition of Signature Style. Here we are again, and it seems like Cindy and I we were just doing holiday looks..The year has flown by.
Do you have clothing items that family and friends call ‘extra’ when you wear them? Well get those out of the closet, along with anything shiny, slinky, sparkly, velvet, furry, or beautifully colored. Trot out those gem studded jewels and pretty bags and shoes. It’s time to have some fun with your clothes!
Take a gander through your archives.. We forget what’s in the closet..
Strategies for Holiday Dressing
Metallics are flattering on everyone as they reflect more light on you. This year silver is especially big and adding a little silver is all you need to create a party look. The biggest bang for your buck may be a silver shoe, but I also love the silver skirts and pants! So modern and fun. Just add a soft sweater and a pair of dangly earrings to those and you have that holiday vibe.
This pleated silver skirt just made its way into my closet. It is from Bella James boutique in Willow Glen. I’ve had my eye on silver skirts for a while and I am besotted with this. It’s by Lucy Paris and it’s an easy pull-on style. I love it with a black turtleneck, and also this little black jacket with bell sleeves I’ve had for years. A leather moto jacket and scarf would be another good look. I can also dress it down this with cute sneakers and a sweater or sweatshirt.
Boots also bought at Bella James and can be found here too.
Some metalics to consider ..
Satins and soft fuzzy fabrics
Satins just say holiday and exude luxury. A satin top makes anything more dressy. Pair with black slacks, heels for a classic holiday chic that always flatters, or for a more casual gathering with denim and a sparkly heel.
Satin bias cut dresses and skirts are back from the 90’s and I am here for it. Nothing looks so good on all body shapes as a bias cut satin skirt or tank or slip dress and they are affordable. Everyone should have one of these in the closet..
The same goes for the fuzzy soft sweaters and faux fur jackets. Popping one of those on is almost all you need and a guarantee you’ll feel like a movie star. These are soft, warm and downright sexy!
I also bought this cocoa colored Michael Stars tank dress at Bella James. It feels great on and I think flattering too. They had this dreamy long cardigan draped over it and I had to try both. I fell in love with the look, which I would call a very California casual holiday look and uber comfy. I paired it with simple silver jewelry- hoops, a cocktail ring and long necklace.
I like these wide ankle booties and black clutch for a little edge…also at Bella James.. You might drape this sort of sweater jacket off the shoulder for an evening out. You can also find the dress here.
Some soft and satiny options..
Elevate what you own with pretty accessories
You may have a closet of dresses, black slacks and soft sweaters.. So what do? Add in some chandelier earrings, a red lipstick, pretty wrap or jacket, or maybe just a fun boot or clutch.. It doesn’t take much to bring things up a notch.
I love these pretty pieces that could be classics for your closet..
Cue Miss Piggy throwing her hair back! We can up our glam quotient with some easy efforts.. I like to book a pedi/ mani and get my nails in a classic red for the holidays. It makes me feel like a French girl. Get your hair highlighted, or book a facial, or do a mask at home. I love this hair mask I use when I am needing my to look like it just got done. It works miracles. I also love the Erno Lazlo Pore Cleansing Mask. It makes a difference when you want your skin to look smooth. ( Just pack it on and leave it only for 5 min max.) I also still use Clarin’s Flash Balm, which firms and makes your skin look great before a special night.
Some beauty bits to level up your holiday look..
Local Shopping Options..
I bought the pieces above at Bella James boutique. They are on Lincoln Avenue in the charming Willow Glen area. I can’t say enough about these lovely people who invited me in to shop and try on some holiday looks!
I like that they are local, and owned by two women who were former Nordstrom buyers. It’s great to have a curated selection of nice things, and not to have to deal with the mall. They know what women need and have everything from casual to dressy, great shoes, and jewelry, plus a big pajama section and slippers. (Great gifts) Give them a visit if you are near San Jose. They make shopping fun and not stressful. You can also follow their Instagram here.
