It’s time for Signature Style with my pal Cindy. Today we are sharing our fall wish lists and I have some fun pieces to make your fall wardrobe pop.
I am excited to be back talking about clothes and cooler days. I don’t know about where you are, but it has been the hottest summer we have had in years in California. I am over wearing shorts and I have been missing pants and jackets!
My Fall Wishlist
This year after looking over the closet, I plan to focus on pieces that pop. I want to buy things I adore and can’t wait to wear. I want more things that are fun and pretty.
As I get older, I feel the need even more to have clothes that make me feel good and to be honest, stand out a bit. I’ll never give up my love of neutrals, but I also want those hero pieces that make an outfit. French women are especially good at working those bits of whimsy into their looks. In fact, I was talking to a fellow shopper who happened to be French not long ago. I was choosing between a classic color or an animal print on a shoe and she said- ‘Always pick the one that stands out’. That was good advice, as I now feel chic in that shoe and it spices up a look.
Fall Trends
Fall 2024 trends are more denim, fringe, faux fur, reds, and deep colors. Leopard and suede are big, so look in your closet because most of us have been through these looks before. We also have seen for the kitten heels, wedges, and over the knee boots before. I do like the bags and shoes with studs, and I am a sucker for a jewel tone. I would love to maybe add something like that to my mix.
It’s fun to look at street style and trends and see what speaks to you, but try and then make an outfit your own with your unique personal pieces. I use looks I find as a sort of outline and then do my own thing and you should too.
Some inspiration
Notice each of these looks has something that really elevates the outfit like a graphic coat, a colorful shoe, a unique top or jean, and the rest is pretty simple. This is my kind of dressing. It is casual chic with pretty details.

Often all we need is one or two new pieces mixed in with what already works in our closets to make it feel updated. Whatever you choose, make sure you love the look, feel and fit of it, or it’s not worth adding to your mix. It won’t have longevity if it doesn’t feel good and fit well.
My wish list to for fall..
- A pair of metallic or bright sneakers or a something silver. I love these P44s, but these are similar also cute in a lower price and these at J. Crew are on sale.

Other fun silver options…
- A cardi sweater or vest in a sherpa fabric. An adorable one from Splendid and this vest by Boden are both SO good.

- A bright sweater for darker days. Love this cute Fair Isle, and this stripe, both by Boden. The pants are so fun and remind me of the Esprit ones I wore in the 80’s.

More fun brights…
- A new jean in a straight leg like this from Evereve or this jean from J.Crew with a cool hem and a longer length that I shared last week on the blog.

I also adore these Galway Dream Denim Jeans in 1972 wash from Frank and Eileen. I wore them to Carmel and they are comfy and soft and I think the perfect flare and length. It is longer on my 5’4 self and I paired mine with my Eileen shirt. I might get another wash in this style. It comes in a darker and a light jean.

More cool denim pieces..
- Something RED! I want more red in my closet and I’d love a sweater, shoe, or bag. I love red mixed in with fall colors and navy. Cuyana has the best tote with a shoulder strap and handles and this by Mango gives you a pop of color and a cool shape that is a shoulder/sachel.

More reds to consider…
- I love racing stripes and these pull on trousers have that sporty track look, but can be dressed up too. The Boden military coat with a London map lining is a collectible piece.

Love these pops of color..
- A pretty bag or shoe. I love Claire V. and this studded oat bag, or a classic shoulder bag or a feminine flat or sling back would be lovely..
If you shop, try and buy unique things that give you easy style cred. Don’t forget second hand is another great source to build a truly one of a kind wardrobe too.

Hi Kim
We both are honed in on silver sneakers. I love the Dolce Vita with the gum sole, but they aren’t wide enough in the toe box for me. I tried them, darn it! I would love to wear the red Converse too, but I have the same problem! You are lucky that you don’t have any feet issues! I have not found an expensive pair of jeans that I would give a hoot about, but I love the Frank and Eileen jeans. I want to get another wash in them as well. I always love your fashion posts. You have such great style
Hi Cindy! Loved your post and the great shoes and the olive pieces. So many cute COS things too. I cannot wait for fall.
I wonder if the J.Crew or the P448 sneakers would have more room? I have the P’s in white and love them.
Agree the Frank & Eileen jeans are wonderful! I love that they have such a small, but perfect collection of what women need. Makes it easy.
You always inspire me! I need scarves now. xo
Paul Green has silver sneakers and my wide feet are happy. They must have thousands of miles on them. I wear them with everything!
Thank you Nancy for that.I will see if I can add them above. This is the link and they are highly rated, a bit pricier, but work for bunions and people with a high arch also. Very cute!

Cindy they are fun aren’t they? I do think Paul Green sneakers are good and someone else recommended, just pricey.
The F&E jeans are my favorite now! Your postw as wonderful and I want some of those cool olive pieces ! Love your styling always too. x
I love both your post and Cindy’s ! So many fun ideas to search for in my closet and beyond. Both you and Cindy always look just so cute and fashionable and always share fun ideas! I love Autumn and the cooler temps and sweaters make me so happy
Dianne, I feel the same. Cannot wait for cooler temps. Feels like ages I’ve been in summer clothes. I’m so over them! 😛
Thank you so much Dianne! You are sweet. I am very excited for the weather change – and sweaters too. xo
Great post! Funny thing is I purchased silver sneakers and silver Mary Jane’s last spring. I’ve worn the Mary Jane ballet flats but the sneakers are harder to put together. All I can think of it’s the off the charts heat this summer. I sure hope it cools down this fall so I can wear them. One needs courage to wear such a stand out color. You can see them from across the room. Your choice of the more textured antique sneaks might solve the issue. Red? I’m looking for red and it is less available than I thought. It’s my signature accent color. Why isn’t it in the stores??
Leslie, I know I bought some Mary Janes last fall too. I really want the sneakers. I think it works to pair them with the unexpected thing too like a skirt or even a pair of dress pants! I know the more textured ones might be less shiny. Once they get worn in, they’ll be less shiny too!
For the red you have to look at some of the more preppy retailers like Boden, Tuckernuck and J. Crew I think!
Thanks. Great suggestions. I’m going to start wearing my silver sneakers a few times a week to break them in. They are Sam Edelman. White trim. White laces. But not bright white. And I’ll look for red again. My bff and I are going to have a girls week and go shop to do major updates. Like slacks. We will likely go to Bay Area to find good selections. Almost no where to shop in Sacramento.
Hi Leslie! Have fun with your bff. I love shopping with friends and usually buy more as we encourage one another, but great to have another’s opinion!
I would go to Stanford Shopping Center or the one in Walnut Creek- Broadway Plaza. Both are so nice and outdoors too.
Hi Kim, Happy Fall!
Fun to be thinking of fresh outfits. It was a long hot summer in Colorado too. Finally having a few “snappy” days. We here, near the Rockies, enjoy the end of September when the aspens turn gold.
Instead of going out clothes, I just placed an order with Quince for some cooler weather hiking, and walking clothes. Hoping they’re easy to pull on, and stay active as it cools off! Would be nice too, if they moved from coffee, to walks, and errands.
I’m wondering if you’ve heard of Hammit bags? I have a crossbody and a tote. Love the functionality and the cool low key look! https://www.hammitt.com/
Hi Lisa! What is it with this summer? Way too long and hot. I bet it is beautiful there in Colorado with the aspens.
I will check out the bags! I have seen them and love the grommets and style. That is a California brand too!
LOVED this post, Kim. You have such a good eye.
Thanks so much Mary Ann! xo
Hi Kim,
Great post. I just bought the JCrew red lady jacket.
You had some great ideas in this post.
Thanks for all you do for us,
Mary Beth
May Beth I love that jacket! Hope you enjoy it. Aw thank you! x
Hi Kim! Love your idea of adding one thing that pops to an otherwise classic outfit. I have been saving looks I love from catalogs that come. Now I really need to do a closet evaluation. I have noticed that the sweater vest seems to be in, so that is one thing on my list. Always love your fashion posts!
Thanks Molly! Good idea saviing the catalogs and looks to try. Yes the sweater vest is and is a fun piece to add to what you have for an update!
Thanks so much. Love your NYC one too! xo
Kim! I look forward to your signature style … and all your style … posts. You’ve got a great sense for what’s happening in fashion and how to translate it to everyday wearable outfits for real life. I love your approach to choosing pieces that stand out and that you truly adore. Speaking of adoring, that Boden sherpa vest is really good. I’m adding it to my fall wish list. Also on my list are the J.Crew burgundy ballet flats. They’re a classic and I love the tradition silhouette so much more than the current boxier trend with a ballet strap. Plus that rich, deep burgundy color … come on! I’m in the market for a fall bag, and the one I ordered got cancelled due to a sell out. I’ll take your advice and check my favorite hand stores in hopes of finding a treasure. Alway love your curation. xo
Thanks Juliet! I know love that Boden Sherpa vest too….and the ballets. Yes they will look good for a long time I think and they work with the baggier jean ot the cuffed one.
We need to shop together and check out some of our resale places!
x
I love the look of metallic sneakers, but now that I am older I think they look like I’m *trying too hard* and they skew “little old lady from Miami Beach”…..I’ve decided the same about my metallic sandals as well. Also, I don’t love the look when metallic shoes get a bit creased or beat up.
I feel like I’m in that limbo zone right now, in terms of style!
Adele, I never looked at the silver sneakers as an old lady look. I just keep seeing them on cute younger people here with dresses and cute jeans. I get how you feel you can go off on a certain item. You need something that feels fresh to you. Keep your eye out and wait for that! xo
I bought red, silver (& gold) metallic sneakers last Spring & boy do I use them. I do nothing but walk here & rarely drive the car. I finally gave into sneakers for the first time in my adult life. Why did I wait so long!! Fantastic post, Kim!
Deb I think the gold sneakers are fun too. I bet they look great on you and you wear a lot of color and have great style. I think they are a fun choice. I agree once you get into sneakers you want more..and it is hard to go back to regular shoes! xox
Kim, I always love ready your fashion posts, all of your posts actually. But your fashion posts offer so many tips, tricks and information to elevate your looks, save money and to use what you have.
I love a pop of color with monochromatic outfits! A red bag is always a great idea and if you purchase a quality piece you will have it forever!
Might I add that you ALWAYS love beautiful! The first rule of thumb, know what suits you and wear that.
xo
Hi Elizabeth! I love a pop of color with monochrome looks too. Agree a good bag and shoes are smart investments.
Aw thank you so much.. x
