Hello my beautiful friends. How are you?
To say this is a rough week is an understatement. I don’t know how the time change got placed on election week, but that was an extra cruel twist. I am shattered, and have slept little, and can’t really talk about the election now. I’m not listening to any news, radio, or podcasts. I can’t stomach the dissection of ‘missteps’ by her, when the guy who won should have never even been allowed to ever run again.
One thing that I know is that I have never been so disappointed in humanity. The hatred spewed by Trump towards women and minorities and others was not a deal breaker for more than half of us. I cried so hard on Wednesday. So many good people worked so hard to do right by our fellow Americans. They give me hope and many of those people were blue dots in red states. I try and think of good done and focus on that now to get by.
Maybe soon I’ll have ideas on how to move ahead, but right now this has been so heavy I need distraction. I need comfort.
What is helping
I had coffee with my dear pal Jane on Wednesday morning and we could barely keep it together. I think our hearts were broken. We had so much hope and love for Harris and also having a woman as president.
Every afternoon when the sun is getting lower and the trees in my neighborhood are seeming on fire, I have gone for a walk. I have just listened to the birds, admired the beauty around me, and tried to really feel the sun on me. It has helped. I have worked in the garden and cleared things. Clearing drawers and clearing everything is good. I have played a lot of pop and upbeat music from the 80s and 90s.
I got out and bought some cut maple leaves for my table to brighten the house and had lunch with my pal Heidi on Friday. I was truly grateful to be out and talk about the state of things with a friend.

I have mixed apples with my pumpkins for November and added a few leaves to my bowl.

The day of the election, I took myself to the mall. It was a wholly positive experience and I feel like right now, my people may be at the mall. I had a lovely day, actually chatting with so many nice folks. I walked out of there with a bounce in my step and an almond latte. Right now, small things like a retail therapy day might be needed, and it was much better than biting my nails at home about the election. Sometimes it’s just going, looking at the pretty things, getting a coffee, buying a lipstick. You needn’t even buy anything. It lifts my spirit to be among pretty things. The mall feels like a safe space now and I may be there a lot more.
That day I had turned off all my notifications, and I had a lot of frantic texts coming in, so I had an inkling of what might be going down. I went to sleep and woke up at 3, something I have done every night since. I took myself out to the couch to watch a few Homeworthy episodes on my laptop instead of spiraling and having hot flashes.
To my surprise the wonderful Mark D. Sikes had his gorgeous LA home featured, and that was a lovely diversion on a terrible night…
On My Radar- comfort armor for right now
Maybe it was my gut, but on Tuesday I felt I urgently needed new lounge and sleepwear. My pink robe had become grey and my other winter sleepwear was looking a little sad. My Uggs had about had it too. I took the opportunity on the election day mall trip to up my cozy quotient.
I’m so grateful I did this because I have spent a lot of this week in pajamas. We need to cocoon ourselves right now.

First up I made a stop in UGG world at the shoes. I tried a few pairs and narrowed it down to this small bootie and this slide in Eve Blue. Both super fluffy and comfy. In the end, I went with the lavender (pale smoke) bootie, but the navy slide is good too.
NOTE: the Nordstrom gal said, get your UGGs now. They already have their full holiday shipment and won’t be getting more until 2025, so don’t wait if you need a pair for winter or are thinking of them for a gift.

Next up were p.j.s The Nordstrom Moonlight Eco Pajama material is super soft, and I knew I wanted a set of the long pjs, having loved the short version for summer. I bought a grey set and a navy pair in small. They are roomy and soft enough to sleep in the top which isn’t too loose. They feel so good on and it’s nice to have two sets to get me through.
I have a this little camisole shell below I wear under my pjs from Lululemon that holds you in lightly and feels so soft.
I also bought what I thought was a robe, but Nordstrom calls it a lounge sweater. I loved the buttons, high neck and front pockets. I was going to get a Barefoot Dreams robe, and still may, but this was a bit lighter in weight, and very soft and warm. An XS fit with room over the pjs, so they run a bit roomy. It also comes in cream. I’m living in all these right now.

Comforting Books
Have you read Jenny Colgan books? Jenny lives in a real castle in Scotland. I discovered her books at a local bookstore and I am just beginning Close Knit, a romantic summer novel set in Scotland’s windswept Northern isles. These books are a sweet escape and there are holiday themed books by Jenny Fun reads for the Christmas season. Maybe the escape we need now? This is also a good time to research or plan a trip- preferably somewhere far away..

Other Things…

The Serena & Lily Fall Sale is on and there are a lot of good things are on sale like my Malibu Chandelier (above) and my kitchen pendants. I love this set of three rolls of pretty gift wrap, and these gift wrap bundles, these frames make a great gift, and the sateen sheets are on sale and I love them, especially this set.
Join me at Bloomingdales next week!
Speaking of the mall, next Thursday, November 14, I am at Bloomingdales Valley Fair in the Ba&sh department 3-5 for a fun fall holiday soiree!
Come and get acquainted with this chic French brand. You can feel and see the pieces in person, try them on and meet sweet Leslie, who manages the Ba&sh collection at Valley Fair. I adore this brand and I think the cardigans, jackets, and dresses are gorgeous pieces that will give you a bit of French flair. You’ll fall in love with the details and the quality.
This is on the second floor of the beautiful store. I park in the new garage on the front and you can easily walk right into Bloomies from the second floor of the garage. Bring a friend!
There will be a raffle and refreshments. Just stop by and say hi if you can.I hope to meet some of you and will share on the next weekend post! Peruse the Bloomingdales Ba&sh collection here .

Writer Elizabeth Holmes had a helpful piece on this election how to process anger, make space for grief, and seek out joy with a woman who is both a political strategist and grief counselor.
If you missed last weekend’s post, it was part two of our four days in Southern California, including the wonderful Huntington Library Museum and Gardens, A bit of Pasadena, and one night at the Beverly Hills Hotel, plus a great soup and more…
I just want you all to know that I hugely appreciate you, your support and comments this year on the election. You inspire me to keep going and caring about our fellow man. Let’s be good to ourselves right now. Stay strong.
Many hugs,
Kim

Hi Kim, you have been on my mind this week. I hope you are taking gentle care of yourself as I know how passionate you are about this election. As I watched our news coverage ( in Australia) I cried and couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My heart broke for all of you. How people can vote for him is beyond my comprehension.
Rita, Thank you so much.
I so appreciate the love from Australia and so many others from around the world.
It helps to know you all care about us and what we once stood for. I don’t understand it either. xo
Kim, I deliberately sought out your blog today to get your reaction to the disaster. Much like you, I am staggered by the situation and have been barely able to function. I cannot read the news or listen to the post-election analysis as there is nothing I will accept as a reasonable explanation. America, what have you done?
I am focusing on my home, my daughters, and my grandsons as I search for ways to cope.
Susan I am glad the blog is a place you can go. I so appreciate your voices here. It is helping me too.
Yes I think this is what we must do in the present- take care of ourselves and those we love.
Know you have an army of good Americans with you. Be kind to yourself. Sending big hugs.
What I have realised is now is time for community. AOC sent an email that I took to heart.
I have reached out to Insta friends who I haven’t met and asked to meet with the intention of building new friendships.
I feel more and more that my future is in Europe. Yes part of me wants to fight for my country and part of me feels like it’s not my country, we were all sold out to corporations long before the former president came on the scene.
I also realize I need to work on myself so that I am stronger to deal with what’s ahead. I cognizantly will try to not think about this cult and it’s leader. I watched a young man today saying that he has spent every day since 2016 thinking about TFG and he’s done. So have I and I am too.
I will whenever I see it call out wrong. I don’t accept what is happening, never will. And if there are consequences from speaking out I have made my peace with it.
For now we need to manage our mental health and those around us.
Kim thank you for being such a bright light. I consider you a friend. I am sorry you are in pain. None of us deserve this. Please continue to distract us with pretty things and kind thoughts. And for being strong when you need to be.
Anita, Thank you for the kind words. Oh gosh I love your idea of meeting with like minded people. We need it now. I consider you a friend!
I agree and feel Europe is so evolved and I keep wishing people would see the quality of life there…I saw the same video with the young man and it was powerful. I am off the news and won’t even watch my regular PBS right now. I cannot. I just can’t stomach hearing about how Biden is supposed to kindly hand over the WH to this guy?? After the coup? Boggles the mind we let this happen.
Most importantly take care of your mental health too. Be good to yourself. Stay kind and we have to have hope.
Big hugs.
Hi Kim,
I echo everything you wrote today. I have no more words for what I am experiencing, I feel I have said them all in Tuesday’s aftermath and yet none of those words have adequately explained what I am feeling. As I am an artist, I will make some angry, sad, confused art in the coming days ahead and hope it makes me feel better. ❤️🩹
Hi Sandy. I feel so the same. We can’t even define it. It’s so many things.
Maybe this art will be cathartic. Take care of you most of all.
xo
Once the results of the election were obvious the word DESPAIR popped into my mind. On Wednesday morning I left my house at 9:30 am starting a day of retail therapy because I could not listen to the news. Where I live in the midwest it was sunny and the trees were beautiful that day. Stark contrast to my mood. Talking with like-minded friends does help. Your beautiful vase of leaves is inspiring and I think/hope that entering the holiday season will lift spirits for a while.
Carolina, Despair is probably the most spot on word for me too. Friends who are on the same page are really who we need to be with now.
I think you are right on about the holidays as a good distraction now..
Someone put up that we need a emotional support early Christmas trees and I could be down with that too. xo
Oh, I feel you and I know we’re not alone. I proudly wore my “I Voted” sticker all day Tuesday feeling so hopeful. How did we get it so wrong? The tv kept telling us “we have faith in the good of the American people”. During the night it felt so dark in so many ways and I had a sick stomach. I still do if I let myself dwell. What is helping my husband and I is that we have disengaged from the endless news cycle that we became addicted to. We have been consistently aggravated for months now as even the liberal media participated in so much sane washing. I, like you, live in a blue state, however I live in a very red surrounding area. I find myself at the grocery store wondering how my neighbors voted. I assumed they were like minded like I assumed the large turnout of young voters were like minded. We have a lot to learn about how we got this so wrong. How did something so obvious to us not be obvious to the rest of the country? So for now I’m doing what you’re doing ~ clearing out, enjoying my safe haven of home, knitting and reading and listening to music. One thing I do know, we are resilient and I still have faith in Democracy. It’s all I have now. Thank you for all you do, it’s a joy to read your newsletter. You live in one of my favorite places in the country. I can’t wait to visit again!
Debra, I know the good feeling of that sticker. I did too and was so hopeful.
I think their messaging was fear based and that influenced a huge amount of women. Our fear of women’s healthcare being ripped away was paralleled by some kind of made up fear of women trans athletes that they were told was a threat to girls. You can try and explain with facts that trans people make up 1.1% and of those who do sport are 12% of that, but Women thought this was a safety issue made up by the extreme ads and lies. Just one of many..
Take care and I hope you get to visit soon. Stay strong. xo
Kim,
I felt the same angst and sadness this week. I’m using this time before the inauguration to take a break from the news and social media related to politics. I’m so angry at the mainstream media. I feel totally manipulated. Anything we read now regarding T’s plans is just speculation and rumors and it adds to my anxiety. It’s going to be my spiritual fast to reset my brain for a few weeks. I’m going to get outdoors more, enjoy the beautiful weather we are having and focus on my personal world doing good for others.
It’s all I can control anyway.
Cathy
Cathy, More than my anger with my fellow Americans, I am angry with the media. They whitewashed Jan 6 as soon as it was apparent to the Republicans they needed to resurrect him. There was never outrage about how he got back on a ticket, just ‘his polling numbers’ even by mainstream media.
He was normalized, and thus began how we got here.
Focusing our own worlds now is the best we can do for our self-preservation. We have been through a lot these last 9 years.
Let’s take back our energy, and like you said, doing good for others can help us heal. xo
Exactly how I feel Kim. The media failed us and normalized Trump’s behavior.
I said to a long time friend on our weekly face time that this has been the worst year of my life for two reasons. I lost the love of my life very fit husband of 50+ years suddenly and unexpectedly, and then there were the political events. I, too, have stopped watching or listening to the news. I’ve had enough. I’ve made the decision to live my best life – whatever that means. My immediate family, my home, and my self care have become the only things that are important in my life.
Lyn, Thank you for sharing this. Drives home what matters doesn’t it? I am so very sorry for you. Losing your husband after 50 years. I can’t imagine. My heart goes out to you.
I think you are smart to not get sucked into the news and the cycle of negativity now.
You need to protect your heart and your health. Those things – your health, your family and being good to you are everything. You don’t need the noise of this now. Take care Lyn. Sending my thoughts and love to you.
I’m with you, Kim. I live in Austin, of course a very red state, but Austin is very democratic. My neighborhood is very democratic, and I take comfort in that. One of our neighbors stopped her bike ride to come over and talk to my husband and I as we were out walking, and we commiserated. My husband keeps telling me to stop worrying about things before they happen, and I’m trying to follow that advice as best I can. I’m still having some trouble at night, when I wake up and catastrophize. My neighbor across the street said, we lived through this before, so we can do it again. Anyway, not sure what else to say about his. I’m completely disgusted also with those who say they are moral people, but voted this way. Let’s just continue to try and enjoy the small pleasures in life, and stay away from media now as much as we can. This will be ok. (BTW, it has helped me some to continue to follow Heather Cox Richardson—she explains things so clearly, and is so down to earth.)
Lisa, Nice to be in Austin. It feels good to know your neighbors feel the same. I had a lovely newer neighbor who told me how much they appreciate our Harris signs. Really feels like they are looking out for you right? I think you are onto something on less media and less focusing on him, his hate and plans will be better for us. We don’t need to hide our heads, but let’s stop giving him and them airtime and energy. Small pleasures are what we need now.
Thank you- yes to Heather! She keeps us focused and in the know, unlike a lot of media outlets that are leading with hysteria..
Let’s stay smart and strong and we are like seeds that are planted.
Hugs to you.
I really wish I could give you a hug, Kim but I am glad you are taking care of yourself and enjoying your beautiful home.
The Ba&sh party sounds so fun. With I could go. Will be looking for your photos.
Thank you so much Mary Ann. Really means a lot. Wish you could go to the event too. xo
I feel EXACTLY as you. Last week I hosted a cocktail party and the dozen of us had great hope. Last night at dinner, six different friends expressed our disappointment and how our country will change.
We are spending the month of December in Australia and New Zealand. I too can not stomach to watch news. Here we go again. What to do? Greer
. I live in Houston, Texas. My husband voted Republican along with my youngest daughter. My oldest daughter and I voted Democrat all the way down the line. Imagine how hard that is. We get along by not discussing politics. I only know of a handful that voted for him so I find it so hard to believe. I don’t believe the way a person votes has as much to do about character as it does about fear and what news they watch. I’m sure the vast majority who voted him in never watched one of his speeches or has any idea of his character. Fox always edited his speeches and condensed them while demonizing Democrats. The rally goers who voted for him are definitely of the same cloth as he.
When the deportations start Texas will lose a large percentage of its population and a very big percentage of skilled tradesmen.
I have decided to disengage emotionally from the governing of this country, as I already have from the governing of Texas. I am only here for my family. I do not consider myself a Texan but I have lived here longer than my home state of California. I am a retired airline employee so have traveled the world and it always seemed as though the US is chaotic and materialistic compared to other first world countries. I wish I could move my whole family to Europe. I know they have their problems too but it wouldn’t affect me so deeply. Living here watching my own country spiral into cruelty would be as painful as watching an alcoholic family member self destruct while living in the same house.
Valeri, My heart goes out to you. That has to be so hard especially in your own home.. My dad is the same and I love him dearly though he won’t listen to any reason or news from any place but Fox and calls all other fake news. I just try and not do politics, but I feel hurt by his vote and how it will affect our whole family.
I’m glad to hear Houston had a lot of Harris voters. The plight of women in Texas has broken my heart. I cannot believe what you have to live under with Abbott and the AG. I was hoping you would have had a army of women voting with you. I keep for comfort, the memory of the great Ann Richards who was such a wonderful governor of Texas. Can that be possible again someday? I choose to think so. Sometimes when we go all in on something so extreme, we eventually all wake up. It has happened with Poland, so let’s hope. Your analogy of an alcoholic in the house is powerful. Take care and thank you for sharing this. xo
Thank you so much for sharing how the election has affected you. You describe exactly how I have been feeling, the loss of a
hoped for future. I am definitely feeling the grief associated with that loss. I also have spurts of rage and have allowed myself
to feel all of it. I have deep feelings of mistrust for the media and have turned it all off. The media is nothing more than clickbait.
I am determined not to give in to despair, so I am seeking out the support of family and friends. I live in Virginia and do derive
some solace from the fact that Virginia went for Harris. Thank you again for your honesty and integrity.
Shelby, Thank you.. It’s all these things isn’t it? I am feeling rage at the media now too. I think the clickbait is exactly what we need to avoid now.
Yay for Virginia! I saw that and was so excited. I know there are good people all over.
Take care of yourself. x
I just read your post and found comfort in knowing that we all need each other during this chaotic time of unrest and disbelief that #&@&#&&@& actually won the election. My first impulse was to stay in bed Wednesday morning and curl up in a cocoon and have a pity party. I immediately had a “ Back to Jesus” talk with myself and decided to go to my routine water aerobics class where others had the same feelings. Together, we decided to take the high road and live our lives spreading kindness, love, and compassion. Thank you Kim and all of you for making my day and relieving me of this burden that will go away because we “elect” to live our lives with good morals, integrity, courage and self preservation.
Grateful for All of You!
Gayle, what a kind message. I’m with you 100% on the living a life spreading kindness, love, and compassion.
Gayle, I had the why get out of in bed feeling. I’m so glad you got to your class. It’s good for us to be with other like minded people now.
Your idea of taking the high road and spreading compassion and kindness and love can heal us, even in the darkest days.
Jane Goodall just put out a clip saying the same- keep loving, and caring and doing good.
The way we live our lives is what matters right? Thank you lovely Gayle for this. You all are inspiring me. xo
Yes, Gayle, I totally agree with you. We need to spread kindness and compassion.
You expressed my feelings of such deep sadness and profound disappointment perfectly. Like you, I am stunned at the results of this election, and disgusted that so many of our fellow Americans could choose him over Kamala. My husband and our friends are all Californians and incredibly grateful to be here and to have the leader we have in Gov. Newsom.
I agree with so many of the comments here that we all need to focus on finding and appreciating all the joyful moments in our lives every day — and live in those moments. Surround ourselves with the love of friends and family, spend time in nature (gardening is perfect!), listen to beautiful music (so healing), eat and share good food, and practice self-care. And then, when we’re feeling stronger, we will move on and keep fighting the good fight. I’ll never give up on us.
One more thing, remember the wise words of the inspiring and beloved John Lewis “Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”
Amen! Thank you Judy for reminding g us of the John Lewis quote.
John Lewis is my hero!
Judy,
Thank you for sharing the wise words of John Lewis. Avoid sea of despair, be optimistic and hopeful! We will get through this. We are strong and our good morals will take us a long way!
We were all shocked listening to the news here. We have our problems here in the UK, but they’re relatively minor. Sending you lots of love. You should plan a long holiday in Europe!
Take care xxx
Agree with your sentiments 100%, I could have written them myself.
I am disgusted with my fellow citizens. This isn’t the country we tell ourselves it is. When people say we will survive another term, democracy DIDN’T survive the first term or we wouldn’t be here. He was a convicted felon with 4 MORE separate indictments of 90+ different charges (insurrection, fraud, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, etc.) and was able to use judicial *capture* of the courts and Supreme Court to evade justice! Covid killed over a million people, 40% more than would have happened with a competent administration. He WILL go after his enemies, he’s already done it.
We have officially become a shadow oligarchy, soon to be a kakistocracy. Elon bought this Presidency and will expect a return.
But sure, tell us it was “the economy”.
I’m still so angry.
Thank you for being an island of comfort, we’re going to need you for however long this nightmare lasts. xoxo
Thank you for this wonderful post. It made me feel a little better just knowing I wasn’t alone in my feelings about the election. Your suggestions for moving on and getting past these feelings were also very helpful. Thanks again.
I am with you, Kim, and appreciate that you took a stance when you didn’t have to. I too am engulfed in waves of anger and grief. Our eleven year old grand daughter asked” Will I still be able to go to school and get a job.” I hate that my grand children have to realize so young just what this country really stands for and it is not the pretty platitudes. I too am seeking comfort and escape in beauty. In time, I will recover my equilibrium and do what little I can do to stand up for what is right and kind. Right now I grieve.
Penelope, I read your comment twice and I have to say I tear up hearing about your granddaughter. I am most saddened and worried by the message this election sends to girls. The election of a predator is so awful and then the caustic misogynistic things men were putting out on the airways was gutting. Also now twice women have lost to a man who at his core desparages women so very much. This is not good for girls.
I want a positive loving world for our kids..Let’s keep standing up and focusing on good for them and work like hell. I think like Poland, all this extremism will backfire. Let’s keep chipping away and be good to yourself now. Hugs to you.
Thanks, Kim. I hope you are right about the backfiring and that there will still be elections to right the mess of the coming years. Already in middle school
And on college campuses boys are quoting that vile white supremacist “ Your body, my choice”. Ugh. If I were younger I would leave. May our better angels prevail
And guide us to a better further.
Penelope, I was sick hearing the boys and men chanting that this week. What message to women and young girls and is there side calling it out? Not at all.
This is all going to backfire on them. It’s bringing out the lowest of low humans.
Hang in there. This is my hope. xo
I haven’t been able to do much this past few days. A lot of walking, angry because is hot and dry and fires are raging, angry because I feel like we have lost our humanity, angry that people could follow such a vile person and call him “Christlike”. I go from sadness, depression, anger, emptiness to now- maybe a glimmer of hope. uuuggghhhhhhhhhh
I, too, turned off news Tuesday night because of the angst. The next morning, I only saw the results because I looked at the time on my phone by my bed and there was the grim message. Like many of the rest of you, I didn’t want to get out of bed and I couldn’t face going to the gym. I finally managed to go for a walk in a pretty neighborhood but am in mourning. The man I am in a relationship with voted opposite of me so there’s no comfort there and we can’t talk about it, period. I don’t worry so much for myself but for my kids and grandkids. I fear the kind of mean-spirited and hateful attitudes bring intrenched in society. We’ve already seen one outcome which is beyond horrible.
*Being, not bring
I knew what you meant! x
Wren I am so sorry it must be extra hard when your partner is of opposite views. Take care of yourself.
I agree the mean spiritedness and hate has real implications for our kids and future generations. Normalizing nasty discourse and bullying is no way to have a peaceful life and a nation where we respect each other.
We must demand better and not go there. Hugs to you Wren.
Kim, thanks for your thoughts and comments and helpful ways to recover from this horrible time. I am devastated and am having a really hard time concentrating on anything other than how stunned I am and how wrong the media got it. Trump has changed me and my thoughts about people. I can’t believe that there are that many people who think like he does – all of the horrible ugliness and lies. I just wanted to let you know that your comments matter to people and you have helped me cope by letting me know that I am not in this alone and that hopefully things will get better. Also, the retail therapy – going shopping today – just am able to get out of the bathrobe. FYI after much searching for a great pair of jeans, I found a pair by Favorite Daughter – the Tommy straight leg. They come in two styles and I bought both and they are wonderful – soft, fit great for older not so skinny women and are 100% cotton, Thanks again for sharing your heart and trying to help other people who feel the same.
Melody Caldwell
Melody, Thank you for taking the time to write this. I know I felt really ragey at our fellow Ammericans. It is hard to understand how they could think this man has any good will when he says such horrific things. He berates and belittles anyone he can. I have a real problem with bullies.
I am glad you can find some solace here within the comments. I know I really feel uplifted by all these lovely people who care so much, even though we are sad.
Good for you for getting out. We need it! Oh thank you Favorite Daughter is a great brand. Thank you for the recommendation of the Tommy! I will check it out. I found their jeans to be so comfortable.
Take care of yourself. xo
Kim it’s been a gutting week on so many levels. My husband was scheduled for a medical procedure on the 7th. We vowed not to watch the news on the 5th, as there was already plenty on our minds, but he turned it on for a few minutes, and things already looked bleak. When we woke on Wednesday to the news I couldn’t stop crying. I’m not a snowflake, but I’m a human, and I couldn’t (and can’t) fathom how my fellow humans could have made this choice. Has half the country really paid no attention to the words of this man and his band of sycophantic power mongers? Have they been blind to the remarkable accomplishments of the Biden administration? Is less expensive milk and gasoline really worth more to Americans than the health of women?
It’s time to draw back, recuperate, and breathe, but then the hard work must really begin anew. There’s a monster in the closet, and he’s about to be unleashed without all the restraints we could rely on last time around.
Sarah, I hope things went well for your husband and his procedure. We did the same, and when I went to bed Tuesday night I hoped for a miracle, and a longer count. Wednesday morning was a horrible shock that it was called so soon.
The Biden Admin has had so many great accomplishments, along with the strong economy we have had huge job growth and the infrastructure bill has created untold jobs. It’s insane that 57,000 projects are currently underway and improving communities and providing a lot of jobs and industry. BUT that didn’t resonate and so we will see what happens to these communities and these projects. We have no idea what is coming.
I live in Canada. This is so incredibly sad. So MANY of us up here feel gutted for America but also fearful for what this means for the rest of the world. It’s so frustrating to watch this play out and not be able to vote, yet the consequences of another Trump administration are enormous both for climate change as well as Ukraine and the Middle East. We too have turned off the news cycle, cocooned and are grieving. This result is so unfathomable. I can’t face 4 more years. What if one of those ghastly Trump sons also wants to run for office in 4 years time?
I love your blog. I am proud of you for speaking out.
Hi Jillian, I feel like Canada should get a vote. Your people seem to get it. I am so sorry you will be affected by us.
Climate change is a huge deal and I feel like the younger kids really worry about this. Mine do and it hardly got focused on..Oh dear no not one of the sons!
Aw thank you so much. Take care of yourself. x
Hi Kim: I’m beyond devastated. On Election Day we were moving from a 3100 sq ft two story house to 1800 sq ft cottage in a senior community. I was overwhelmed by both the election and our move. Still stunned, I have a steep learning curve ahead of me in this new environment. I love that your blog is one of my anchors. Thank you.
Sally, that is a lot at once. Take it easy. Aw that is such a nice thing to say. Glad to be a safe space for all of us.
Sending hugs and good thoughts. xo
Good morning Kim. Thank you for your blog which continues to give me comfort. I keep waking up during the night thinking this is all just a very bad dream, only to realize I’m now living a nightmare. Wednesday morning my husband and I were both feeling so distraught, disappointed and for myself, even afraid. We got in the car and drove to Yosemite for the day to distract ourselves. Being in nature and surrounded by natural beauty can be healing and is good for the soul. I will continue to avoid the media and pundits for a while as they serve no positive purpose to my well being right now. Take good care of yourself and know we will get through this in time!
Monique, Thank you. I am doing the same waking at night. It’s rough.
I am so glad you guys went to Yosemite. That had to feel good even now.
Yes the pundits don’t serve us now. Be good to yourself. x
Kim, I am comforted by your blog and amazing followers who have left their comments here this morning. There are no words to say how shocked we were with the outcome of this election. I am mourning the loss of what I thought Americans valued. It’s all just mind boggling to me. As a family therapist (retired), I view the next four years as extremely dysfunctional. As I commented on Juliet’s post, I am curating my own dopamine menu, and taking extra good care of my physical and mental health. Sending you love and hugs..
Thank you, Kim, for your special words. I am happy you were able to find comfort in retail therapy. I am not there yet…still in early sages of grief I guess, shock and disbelief. The election results are really a moral travesty in my opinion.
Strength and courage for the rocky road ahead!!!
I felt ashamed for our country- ashamed we can elect a felon and not a woman.
Trying to get over it and trying to find the bright side….
Thank you for your thoughtful post today.
Sending you much love from Canada. I have never cried over an election in my own country, but I definitely shed tears for yours. I can’t believe that 71 million people chose a convicted rapist, felon, misogynist and racist to be a role model for their children. Shouldn’t the President of the United States be a role model? Just when you think you have seen everything….
Hugs to everyone here. Comfort is where it’s at!
Along with this weeks implosion of my idea of America, I’ve been very sick. I’m finally on the upswing from what my doc says is just a really nasty virus.
Since about 3am on Wednesday, I haven’t read or watched the news. My handful of blogs have brought me some comfort and good ideas about how to make it through the week.
Cup of Jo had a beautiful post called There is Good in This World. There are many comments, but just the post is comforting.
I’ve turned on a beautiful Spotify playlist everyday. I’m drinking herbal tea, I’m texting with friends and family, I’m reading a very enjoyable book (We Solve Murders by Richard Osman). I’m watching a few things…The Great British Baking Show, HGTV, and Outlander.
Let’s all be the good in this world.
I echo everything you wrote and expressed so well. I am still
in a state of despair and loss of faith in humanity. The cruelty of
this man and followers is hard to understand. I live in an area
that is red, no matter their wealth or supposed faith with only small
dots of blue, but we were so hopeful for Harris. The celebration
by my neighbors made me ill. At any rate, I have stopped all notifications
and media views. I feel they contributed to her loss by setting
the bar so high and ignoring Trump vitriol . I am particularly
angry at women who supported him when they have no respect
or see value in women. I experienced the days of women in the early 70’s
and do not want to return. I am in my own cocoon too and hope to
regain my optimism but not yet. I only hope his damage can be
countered. Thanks for your blog, reading like minded women’s views
is like therapy to me. We are not alone, even if now it seems we are.
I love your beautiful and sophisticated style! I could do without your politics, and I wish we all could be more understanding of one another’s opinions and views. But I am hopeful for healing and more gorgeous tablescapes in 2025!
Understanding? You mean like Trump’s understanding of other viewpoints? I suggest you crack a history book to understand the inflection point where we find ourselves. There aren’t two sides to democracy. This isn’t about policy.
This guys nails it. https://youtu.be/uVKLs2dXTX8
Thank you for sharing that Valletta!
This guy is gold! Thanks for posting it, Valletta. He is forthright and so on point.
From a disappointed and frustrated 74 yr old here in coastal BC 🇨🇦
I will definitely be forwarding this one.
Hang in there Cath. xo
I agree with every sentiment in your post and appreciate all the supportive reader replies. Thank you for voicing things so perfectly.
Kim, I am still a mess after the election…I really had high hopes. There was so much enthusiasm behind Kamala’s campaign, she did an amazing job. I think there are a lot of factors that played into her loss but I firmly believe racism and misogyny was front and center. This wasn’t over the price of eggs and gas. (maybe a little) I went to bed on Tuesday with a heavy heart but when I looked at my phone at 4:00 a.m. I was done. Never went back to sleep, I laid there feeling totally gutted and my mind was racing. I laid there for two hours and finally got up and went downstairs to do cardio for 45 minutes. I take a low dose antidepressant at night so I know that helped me sleep better the following nights. Wednesday and Thursday I had to hold it together because I was busy but yesterday I had my ugly cry. I am so disheartened not only at my fellow Americans, but some friends and family too. And ANGRY. I don’t know how to proceed from here…do I cut ties with my two friends of 50 years? My daughter and her husband are both Trump supporters and if I am being honest, my heart isn’t into the holidays this year. We never discuss politics because they know how I feel about Trump. I do feel grateful that I live in California, Newsom is already fighting for us. I just love him and am so glad he is our governor.
Thank you for this post, I went on here this morning looking for some positivity. Love your Fall table scape in the dining room. People are already putting up Christmas decorations…I’m an after Thanksgiving gal. Also watched Mark’s home tour, I had seen some shorter tours before so this was a real treat. His yard is so gorgeous, he must have a full time gardener.
Hang in there and we must all continue the fight. Like one guy said, take care of yourselves and do whatever you need to do but come Monday we get back up!
Linda
When you figure out how to get back to normal please let us know. I am still so depressed and need to change my mindset. Thanks for sharing your feelings.
I’m still in a funk too, trying to follow some of the suggestions here from other readers..especially avoiding the news. 😞
Good almost noon, Kim,
It is hopeful to hear you express your truth as well as so many others on your blog. I’m encouraged by the number of women who responded. The honest insights and willingness to bare their souls in the midst of fear for our democracy speaks volumes. It feels like an enormous congregation of soul sisters.
Caroline Randall Williams is “Writer in Residence’ at Vanderbilt University. She said in an interview that “America is an old Junkie selling misogyny, bigotry, racism, elitism…” Another African American friend of mine taught me a phrase many years ago which i felt compelled to pull out Wednesday morning: “Ever did be that way”. The reality reminds me that taking time to grieve is extremely important for those of us who recognize the depth of what is lost. If we are not intentional, our grief will not go away, but return at inopportune times and keep coming until we finally face and work through our pain.
There are many ways to grieve. I’m journaling my feelings, walking when I can, and seeking like minded patriots like the women on this blog. May we continue to listen to each other, heal, and “resolve” (Kamala’s words) to find creative solutions amidst our fear that our beloved institutions may not hold.
Valuing each of you on your journey of grief,
Diney on Mercer Island
Hi Kim — I too am focusing on comfort and beauty. I found Kamala’s concession speech inspiring, and I like how she and the President are taking the high road and focusing on the long game. I have to believe that good always wins in the end. For now, though, we need to take care of ourselves. I love all the things you shared in today’s post. Take good care of yourself!
Thanks for your post today. It was just what I needed. I’ve really appreciated that you’ve spoken out on this platform. It hasn’t been the time to be silent. I agree the misogyny and racism were even worse this time, if that’s possible. Before the election results came in on Tuesday, I was suddenly seized with fear, and had a brief sense of what it must be like to live in countries that oppress women and minorities. My one comfort is that I’ve come across so many wonderful humans beings on platforms like this, and that gives me hope.
I am late stating this but this last week was awful; my friends in Europe called and were shocked. If many are deported we will lose the ability to have fresh fruit and vegetables in the markets as this group is carrying that function in the US whether people like to think of that or not. Also a lot of US born children will be without their parents if these raids that are proposed happen during school hours as the one in the food processing plant did several years ago. The horror of Trump and his organizers and lemmings will have a profound impact on the democracy of this country and I truly believe those that voted for him had no idea the loss of freedoms that will ensue. As an 81 year old women and 20 year veteran of the Navy I support women in all aspects of getting ahead. We are the backbone, the housekeepers, the workers, the mothers, the caregivers and defenders of this country and we are not respected by this felon and rapist who has denigrated veterans and POWs and street much everyone!
Donniei, there are so many of us who respect and support our veterans who serve this country. Bless you!
Kim, I was anxious to read your thoughts this morning. Like you, I’m just gutted—devastated. How can half of our country support this predator & criminal? He has committed so many atrocities against us, and he will get away with all of it. I’m just disgusted.
Over the last few days, I’ve cried, I’ve cursed, and I’ve been numb. But, there are still moments of joy or at least contentment. I’m definitely limiting how much news I watch right now, as I have no desire to hear his voice or see his orange face. I also have no desire to hear Democrats tear each other apart over this. Harris ran a brilliant campaign full of ideas, hope, & a promise for a better future. But, unfortunately, we have a nation full of people who follow right/white-ring media that lies to them and scares them on a daily basis. It’s hard to fight that, especially when the regular media did such a poor job of pushing back on his lies, portraying Joe Biden as a feeble old man while ignoring the feeble, old actions of the orange monster, and constantly questioning everything Harris said while never questioning him for the things he said or the fact that he never had anything concrete to offer. It was a complete double standard. I’m furious about so much of this. Why do people hate women so much? I could say more but I know I need to stop. Thank you for this space.
Hi Kim
Still in disbelief and mourning what could have been. I feel exactly the same as how you eloquently described. 4 days of processing this fiasco. My sister although in blue CO is sadly not one us and she banished me but not before calling me a handful of disgusting names just like you know who does. So that relationship is over. It wasn’t ever great so it’s as expected. Moving on. Thank you for all the recs. Be well.
Sylvie 💙
Sylvie, I also kept thinking this and I know I mourn for what might have been. We had so much hope.
I’m so sorry about your sister. It’s not okay and you are right to protect yourself.
Be extra kind to yourself now Sylvie.
Many hugs to you.
Kim,
I am sorry that you are feeling so blue. I am sending you a virtual hung my friend. I have to be honest I really didn’t watch as my heart and mind were elsewhere. I am grieving for my family and trying to stay away from any other negative stuff that I do not have room for at this moment.
I love the idea of heading to the mall to pamper yourself! That was a great idea and now you are ready to hunker down and enjoy the rest of Fall and Winter. I love your new pajamas and lounge sweater! So chic and comfy looking. I’ve never tried Ugg slippers I like stegeman wool slipper/clogs, comfy and easy to wear inside and outside.
Your Fall branches look beautiful in the blue and white Chinoiserie vase, as do your apples and pumpkins mixed.
Jenny Cogan is my “go to” escape, feel good author. I download her books onto my Kindle while traveling as well.
Have a wonderful weekend Kim and thank you for sharing your heart and thoughts.
xo Elizabeth
Elizabeth you had so much this week. I hope you are taking care of yourself. Thank you love all the branches.
I figured you would know about Jenny. Great books to download for a trip too.
Sending you hugs.
Kim, I can’t begin to tell you how much I feel your pain. I’m completely heartbroken by this election. On a moral, ethical, humanitarian level. The choice that our fellow country person (s) made makes me ill. I had my Harris sign stolen out of my yard on election night. I felt so violated. I’m not sure how I will go on for the next four years…but I will! With kindness and care for others. He’s truly a mad man and I can only pray that enough of us will stand up for all that is good and holy. Know you’re not alone.
Kim—I move between despair, fury, disbelief and a kind of bitter numbness. On Wednesday I didn’t get out of my pajamas until late afternoon and a good portion of my soul seems to require a four year nap. And then I think of my daughter and granddaughter and everyone else in my family, of my friends and all the women like you and the members of this community. “ I can’t go on. I must go in,” says a character in a Samuel Beckett play. And it’s true. We must go on.
So—I just ate a large bowl of tater tots in the vain hope of feeling better. And watched cooking shows last night—while slumped over and covered by a soft, soft throw.
But today I joined and/or donated to the following: The American Civil Liberties Union, the national parks foundation. Planned Parenthood. The Sierra Club. As Rachel M reminds us all in a podcast (see YouTube)—our task is to stay hydrated, exercise, connect with people and groups and to maintain civil discourse and civil society.
(But I think for sure we can do this in pajamas some days. )
As President Biden likes to say, keep the faith.
Thank you so much Kim for your incredible honesty and for providing this forum.
Deborah, Thank you for this. I know cooking shows and tater tots are what we need now. I feel beat down, but when you think of the women- family and friends and future generations, I can’t give up either. Your family is so lucky to have someone who cares so deeply. Yes for doing some of it in pjs now if that is what we must.
Thank you for these great places to donate. I am starting a list to share.
You take care!! x
Hi Kim,
Thank you for your post. Like you l am trying to regroup and be grateful for my friends and family and the conversations we have had. My hubby and l were in Big Sur the days around the election and we loved The Treehouse Cafe and your places in Carmel!! But we came home to awful fires in Ventura and Moorpark so it was a reminder how life can change so very quickly. Grateful for the peace in our neighborhood and thinking of those affected. Take care Kim!
Francesca I love Big Sur. Glad you also got to the Treehouse!
Are you near that area? Poor Ventura. Those fires were so awful.
I feel for everyone there so much. Take care too. xo
Thank you for your post. Inspired by you, Wednesday I donated to the Human Rights Campaign. I feel so much despair but the only answer for me is kindness and hope in action. As Mary Oliver wrote, “Hope, I know, is a fighter and a screamer.” I feel beaten and tired, but I will pick myself up and continue to fight and hope.
That is wonderful. I think the Human Rights Campaign is a good one right now to give to and support. I love the idea of hope in action.
I feel the same! xo

Hi Kim,
Writing to you from Ojai and feel as you do about the election. I try to follow Stoicism when things seem bleak (even though it’s easy to say but hard to do some times).
“When tensions are high, when anger and frustration abound… When misinformation and extremism and utter nonsense pervades.. When cruelty and meanness become acceptable.. YOUR JOB IS SIMPLE: Don’t become a lunatic. Don’t let it infect you. Don’t let it make you lose your mind.
Marcus Aurelius had to do this in the terror of the plague. He had to do this during a coup attempt. Think of Cicero during both those Civil Wars. Think of Chryssipus telling himself, the whole point of being a philosopher was to not join in with the mob and the rabble. They were holding out. It’s not that they were disengaged– they were very engaged. It’s that they strove, however, not to be consumed by the passions that had wrecked their society.
Lincoln had to strike a very similar balance: He knew that slavery was wrong. He knew that a good chunk of people were hell-bent on destroying the country. He also understood that he could not afford anything other than calmness, foresight, clarity. He could not lose his humanity. He could not lose his mind”.
NEITHER CAN YOU. We can’t let bad times turn us into bad people. The winds may howl but we must not be swept away. We must remain good. We must remain sane. This is our job”.
Thanks for speaking out so eloquently. I love the blog.
Wow… thanks for such a thought post, Dani . You have also enlightened me…
a history and philosophy lesson combined.
A friend, knowing that I was struggling with Wednesday ‘s news shared this…
OBSERVE , BUT DO NOT ABSORB… that sort of helped me. Turned off all noise…
and felt inner peace as I simply made a cake… to share with that friend. ❤️
Hi Kim,
It was interesting to be flying around the country during Election Day and the days that followed.. the rest of the country really sees things completely differently than California. Take a deep breath —we will be ok . I think it feels more bitter in California because California has usually been such a leader in so many ways.
I loved the leaves in your big blue and white vase – I’m going to copy your idea! Sending you hugs
Hi Kim, I was up really early on Wednesday (jet lag still) and, even though I didn’t look at the news I could see from newsletter emails what had happened; like (almost) everyone else here I’ve been depressed ever since. I’ve been thinking of you as I know how much you were hoping for a different outcome (in fact, I did message you on Instagram at some point, but you probably didn’t see it). Anyway, I am so disappointed, but it’s heartening to read your post and these comments and to know that some Americans do get it. I feel so sorry for those who have family members who voted for Trump. And I’m fearful of what this means for Canada – we are due for an election next year. I know that after 10 years of a Liberal government there will probably be a change, it’s the way these things go, but I worry that the rot will spread and we’ll have people like Trump and his cronies in power.
What makes me sick too is the fact that President Zelensky will have to kow tow to Trump and probably take one of his ‘deals’: heartbreaking. Anyway Kim, please take comfort from all your followers who are with you in spirit. As Joyce
Vance always says, we’re in this together. (We really are, this result will have consequences throughout the entire world.)
Obama liked to say this isn’t who we are while someone else said Trump didn’t change us, he revealed us and I guess this is exactly who we are. I live in New Jersey, a reliably blue state, yet five counties flipped to red and Harris beat Trump by 5 pts. while Biden beat him by 17 in 2020!? What does the world think of us electing a convicted felon and rapist?
Hi, Kim —
My husband and I were in total disbelief as we watched the election returns. Turned it off at 8:00 pm (PST) and went to bed. Up at 1:30 a.m. to the horrific news. I am still in semi-shock.
My daughter’s birthday was Wednesday, November 6. This is not the news or the world that I want for her, or her brother.
I already miss Kamala’s strength and inspiration. I listened to every speech that was available on MSNBC, and took so much hope from her words and her delivery. How could this go so wrong?
My husband is in need of a new haircutter as his revealed herself to be a Trump supporter, in the name of catholicism. I am agnostic, but is this really what Jesus would want? She is an immigrant. Is she not afraid of deportation?
I agree with all these women’s posts (all but one…). It is comforting to know there are so many like-minded women out there. Don’t count us out. We will recover and regroup! Chins up!
Finally, a blog author who has addressed the election! Thank you!
I read many and have only seen one other comment. All the others seem to be about Christmas Wishlists. My greatest wish would be that we wouldn’t have to live through this nightmare. I no longer recognize this America who soundly voted for this man. We are in for a bumpy ride. Opposite of you, I have been immersing myself in the news trying desperately to understand how this could have happened to us. Not healthy, I’m sure. We need some time to heal and then we can act.
Joan, I know hard to think about a Christmas list when it feels like the our nation may be turned upside down.
I am very worried and more worried about the people surrounding Trump like Musk almost more than anything.
I don’t feel like spending a lot this Christmas, but instead being with people. We have a lot on our plates now.
Healing for a while and then action is a good plan. x
Hi Kim, beautifully said. As always you express how so many of us feel very eloquently and with compassion. I turned off the coverage fairly early on Tuesday night when it begin to feel an awful lot like 2016. I spent Wednesday in a catatonic state unable to fathom how so many could vote for someone so morally corrupt and contemptuous … not to mention the worst possible example of what one hopes a United States President will be. I’ve cancelled my news related subscriptions, turned off the television news and will do my best to avoid seeing his face or hearing his voice and pray that our systems hold and we’ll be able to have free and fair elections in 2028. I also pray he doesn’t follow through on his threats to plunge our economy into chaos, inflation, unemployment which is exactly what will happen if his tariff and deportation plans are implemented. If people think food prices are high now, just wait until the agricultural workforce that we depend on has been scared off and deported. And I hope those that voted for him aren’t ordering their children’s Christmas presents – or clothes – from Amazon where just about everything they buy is made in China. The hypocrisy of the electorate – or perhaps ignorance of how things actually work – is beyond me. I guess it’s hard to see reality through the eyes of grievance and hatred. Oof. Let’s hope it’s hot as bad as we fear and there are better days ahead. In the meantime, we have to take comfort where we can … and being home in snug lounge wear, something baking in the oven and a good book is that for me. I’ll check out Jenny Colgan now, sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Can’t wait to hear about your BA$SH event … wish we lived closer. xo
Juliet, I did the same last week. Very dark feeling. I am hoping that some of these things like tariffs actully affect some folks who were so sure he’s for the better economy. I am off Amazon and Whole Foods. I’ve been finding lots of good alternatives. I wish you could go to the Bash event. Sending hugs. xo
Hi, Kim —
I just now read your post-election column, and want to let you know how much it resonated with me. Despair. Heartbroken. Gut-punched. I’m searching for a new way forward to create for myself a world with more beauty and joy, and not to dwell excessively on the half of America that seems not to care enough about women, the planet, or those who need help. The fact that Elon Musk will be our shadow President has me retching. Meanwhile, I’m going through the same self-care steps as you: retail therapy (a new robe, a blouse for Thanksgiving with the family, new Christmas decorations), the Christmas tree goes up tonight, and seeing friends. I’ve decided that my way out will be through my people. I’ll be contacting friends more often and trying to develop new ones. I’ll continue my volunteer work mentoring formerly incarcerated college students, and tutoring reading to little kids. If I can’t improve their world by political means, maybe I can help build their strength and resilience to face this awfulness. Thank you so much, Kim, for addressing what so many of us are feeling. It really helped!
Hi Susan, I know I felt that. I agree we have to find joy. It’s hurtful to know a huge amount of people did not care about women’s healthcare.
Good idea to find solace and happiness with your people. It is what we can hold onto now.
That is so great you work with these students and kids! That has to be so nice knowing you are making a difference in their lives.
Aw sure take care. Hugs to you.
Hi Kim,
I’m probably going to be in somewhat of a permanent state of recovery for sometime.
So deeply concerned about our country. Still in somewhat of a shock. Staying in and living in my public type of pajamas that I always live in for personal comfort and doing some baking and card crafting and peaceful music is bringing me some comfort.
You take care.
🌹❤️🌹
Dear Katherine, Take care. I know and I am in my public pjs this week. Just not feeling it.
Baking is what I lean into too. Peaceful music is another good thing.
Sending you many hugs. xo
Hi Kim,
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt pain, we are with you! It is unbelievable how the election turned out and just incredible that so many in our country would vote for this awful man and his party. It’s obvious now, that California looks at the country (and world!) with a much broader view than so many voters who consider only their own basic needs as the most important issues. It’s hard to understand that, but I guess the struggle is real. It pains me to wonder now how the world perceives us.
My husband and I have tuned out, stopped watching the news and reading anything political in the media. It feels a bit surreal, and hard to process, including what comes next. I’m so sad for all the women in other states, who don’t have the freedom to make their own health related decisions, including the young people in their families. We’ve been diving in to some fun home projects, binge watching The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix), cooking new recipes and yes, a little retail therapy too. I love your new pjs and Uggs! Spending time with family now is most important and creating a safe and cozy space together, especially with the upcoming holidays.
I very much enjoy reading your blog, the decorating ideas, food, fashion, travel and sharing your thoughts with us. Take good care!
Hi Cheryl,
It’s just heartbreaking isn’t it? I think tuning out now is a good thing. Oh I have heard about the Lincoln Lawyer too. Yes creating a cozy spot for ourselves now and a little sanctuary is good.
Aw thank you! SO glad you are here!
Sending you a hug.
Hi Kim,
Oh my goodness. Your blog has become a source of solace for those of us who feel completely disheartened by the results of the election. You know how I feel.
I’m glad we had some time together Friday, I am shocked that it’s already Tuesday night. I have been sort of sleepwalking through my days. Stunned that so many people would not trust a woman to run the country, but would give the power to that demon. I am frankly horrified by all of it.
Shopping therapy, now there’s an idea! I have been hitting the online stores pretty hard. Dealing with my own personal trauma, and then this awful outcome I will at least have some new items in my wardrobe to look forward to wearing.
I’ve been deeply breathing the crisp fall air and admiring the trees around here. It helps a little.
Sending you a big hug,
XO Heidi
Heidi, I know, and I so get how you feel. It’s hard to not feel sad.
Good being out in nature now helps me too.
We have to be good to ourselves now. Big hugs.
Kim, thank you for your blog. It has been a comfort to read your thoughts and those of your readers. It helps. I wake up with a sense of dread each morning now but I plan on staying informed and hope to help where I can. Thank you for the house tour videos, the book recommendations, and your travel photos and comments. Plus your fashion inspiration. All good. Appreciate you and the kind and interesting people who frequent your blog. I heard from two friends yesterday who feel as devastated by the election results as I do. Just the sharing of feelings plus a few laughs was good therapy for me.
Linda, I am glad to be there because I am getting how so many are feeling dark and I am the same. I’ll try to keep sharing some good things to get us through.
We need the laughs right now too. xo
Do you watch Jon Stewart? He is spot on with many observations. His you tube video on the election outcome was thought provoking and will give you things to consider. Changes have to be made in this country.
Gayle I will go check it out. I think he is a great guy and a national treasure with all he has done for vets in Congress. x
