Summer Bedding Essentials, a Cotswolds Home, and Beauty Things

May 16, 2025 By kimwheeler 83 Comments

On this post, hotel level bedding, the Serena & Lily Sale, the Abundance book, my event, new beauty things, and more.

Summer Bedding

I slept really well on our little Hawaii getaway and I knew when I got home I needed to focus on my own bedding situation more. This was our bed..

As soon as I returned from the trip, I committed myself to finding some lightweight summer bedding as good as our hotel condo had in Hawaii. It involved some nice sheets and a uber light down alternative duvet. I can be really complacent about replacing my bedding, and I am not sure why. It’s an investment, but one we use every night, as opposed to clothes right? It is money worth spending and my stuff is looking frankly sad, and needed a refresh. Good sleep is worth it!

My son raved about the pillows and I found a similar ones at Quince, so I just ordered a few of these down alternative for side sleepers. I have their linen sheets (I think recommended by Juliet) and they are great!

You also need a light blanket and they had a soft waffle weave, on the bed, which is a great layer to have for summer beds. I like how they can be pulled up over sheets to give a neater look with the duvet folded at the foot when the bed is made. It makes creating a tidy bed so easy.

I ordered two duvet inserts to see which works best and is lighter. Max and I both sleep pretty hot and summer is upon us. One by Crate & Barrel is nice quality, organic cotton and is categorized as lightweight. I have been always pleased with the quality of their bedding. I also ordered this silk filled duvet from Martha Stewart. (It has a rayon/cotton cover.) I think that is the one that was on the rental bed. (Disclosure: this is a Target link, which I normally wouldn’t use, but the exact same comforter is double the price at Macys.) I will report back!

I also need a duvet cover. I was waiting for this one to go on sale at Serena & Lily and it has. I love sateen and this soft blue could be pretty combined with a green or floral pillows. They ALSO have a lightweight down alternative comforter that is on sale….

I’ll give you an update on the bedding in the next week!

On My Radar

A few new discoveries in the beauty department…

I adore this OGEE lip oil pencil that was suggested to me at Blue Mercury. It is not oily, but a soft subtle and creamy color with the precision of a pencil, which I love. It can be quite opaque and stays well, while still very moisturizing! I bought Rosalia a soft mauve. I am obsessed!

I also added a new brow pencil – Boy Brow Arch in cool blonde by Glossier. It has the perfect thin line to mimic brow hair and a brush.

I also changed eye cremes recently after getting small size of Bioessence Squalene Marine Algae Eye Creme at Sephora. The price is good and it lasts for $56. The nice thing is you can try the mini travel $20 size first. I saw a big improvement in my eye area right away, which gets dry. I am also sensitive and this is great. Bioessence is a plant based, clean line from Singapore. I plan on trying more of their things.

I’m reading this week…

I finally got to Abundance by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. I am loving this book that reimagines how we can live with more and in a better world, if we could just get unstuck on how we’ve always done things. I loved this review by David Brooks:

“Spectacular…Offers a comprehensive indictment of the current problems and a clear path forward…Klein and Thompson usher in a mood shift. They inspire hope and enlarge the imagination.” —David Brooks, The New York Times

In the current political climate, we need hope and answers and this book gives us both! You can read the first few chapters free here. It is available to buy here on sale- or check out your local library!

Serena & Lily’s Memorial Day Sale is on already

I didn’t know this had already started, but this sale, is a good chance to get things for the house. I plan on getting a new runner. I was going to save this for next week’s post, but things do get sold, so I thought I’d add it to this week. It ends 5/28. (Sorry feels like a lot of links in the post already.)

Linked below are a few things in my house that are on sale…Click on the photo to go to the item.

My Balboa Barstools and pendants.
The Carson bench in my entry.
My pool bath mirror.
My dining room rug.
My dining chandelier.
Healdsburg Towels I LOVE!
My Edgewater chairs – and rattan tray on table….

Watch This! This fabric designer’s Cotswolds home is just my thing….

Democracy this week….Conversation at the pool

I was at the pool one day in Hawaii and Max and I were chatted up by a retired couple that lived part time in Kauai and part time in San Diego. She started taking politics, and social issues and it is interesting to see how people think and why it’s good to get out of your bubble occasionally.

This lady railed on about how we need immigrants to go as they are getting breaks and free healthcare and such. Not true for most, I countered. We moved onto talk about her remodeling of her Hawaii home. She then went on to brag how her and her husband skip paying state taxes by moving around and avoid California taxes, though they are here six months of the year. They also avoid Hawaii taxes, as he is a vet. I guess she didn’t feel contributing to roads, libraries, and so much else we use was her obligation.

So many folks feel some handouts (like tax avoidance), for the wealthiest are okay, but help for the most needy is what is straining our economy, which just isn’t the truth.

Studies show that if you give money to the lower income people, the economy flourishes, but not with the wealthy who don’t spend it.

When Trump and other rich people avoid taxes, but the average lower and middle class American needs to pay up, and at a much higher percentage, something is wrong. Many of the older generation – like my dad’s, have bought into a fallacy that government ‘handouts’ are going to people who are poor or illegal. Yet you don’t hear many complaints about the rich scamming us do we? Many keep saying we need to spend less, yet the wealthy and their tax evasions, aren’t even registering on their minds. Those on government assistance and SNAP are small peanuts of our budget in comparison! This is a great article with a lot of facts on our skewed tax system, including this:

Low-income Americans face higher payroll tax rates than rich Americans. Americans with less than five-figure incomes pay an effective payroll tax rate of 14.1 percent, while those making seven-figure incomes or more pay just 1.9 percent!

I just had to share that little conversation as the Trump/GOP tax bill is coming to light. In a Rolling Stone article on it this week:

According to the bipartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, the GOP’s proposed tax provisions would increase the national debt by $5.3 trillion. It’s a phenomenal cost that Republicans intend to offset, to some degree, by forcing 10 million Americans off Medicaid, pushing millions off food stamps, and increasing health care costs for many.

This nation is all for the wealthiest and it’s getting worse. I just had to share that conversation! We really need to reeducate Americans about who is grifting.

NEXT WEEK…

I have my shopping event at Ba&sh, in Bloomingdales Valley Fair, so if you are a local, and need a dress for an event, or just a few new things, this is a great time to check out this French brand that is famous for its flattering dresses and cool pieces. I went this week and checked out what is new. I have a few things on hold and I am already trying to figure out how to buy them! Next week I’ll link to some of these pretty items.

This will be on the second floor in the pretty Style Studio, so we can sit down on the couches and try things on and have some refreshments. There will be a raffle for the guests as well! Leslie and I will be there to help style you or shop for a special event or just find something that flatters and you love. Please pop by if you can to see this lovely brand in person.

Ba&sh Event is 3-5, Thursday, May 22nd. Bloomingdales, Valley Fair, Floor 2!

If you can please RSVP to me or Leslie at Bloomingdales. 347-861-2757 .

What are your dress needs?

Also this week -on Tuesday, Cindy and I will be back doing Signature Style, and our subject will be dresses, so I hope you’ll stop by. I’m wondering what sort of dresses is everyone needing? Do you want everyday summer looks, vacation/travel dresses, or special event frocks? I know a lot of my friends are looking for dresses to wear to graduations right now,

If you missed last week’s post, I shared what I packed and where we stayed in the Big Island, Peter Dunham with Hudson Grace, a few Mother’s Day things and more.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Good morning Kim! How was your tennis match?
First, you look fabulous in that print dress! You definitely need to add that to your wardrobe. I love dresses, and am looking forward to seeing what you and Cindy come up with. They are so easy to wear and style and are perfect for most occasions in my opinion.
I would love to know more about this eye cream. What do you love about it? How long have you used it?
Bedding is my nemesis. Even though it is summer I like to sleep with a down blanket, I don’t sleep well when I do not have the weight of a blanket on. Your bedding choices sound great. Can’t wait to see them. I uses a duvet cover on my down blanket but I really don’t like it because the blanket moves around. Any suggestions for that problem?
Serena and Lily have so many beautiful pieces is there something you are looking at in the sale?
I LOVE this English cottage! It is right up my alley.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the spring weather.

Elizabeth, I won the match! Finally. I haven’t been doing so great with tennis lately.
I agree I love dresses more and more- and the ease of them in summer.
So I liked the eye creme as it improved the fine lines and dryness, and puffiness around the eye area.

The rental had a down blanket or very light duvet and they had it between two sheets, which a lot of hotels do. I guess you could also just use it with a throw over it and wash it more! I hate when they get lost in the duvet covers too. I am getting a new kitchen runner at the sale- I think the same as my dining room rug, as it has worn so well.
      I love this cottage too.
      Happy weekend! x

Your politics are totally wrong! I’m sure you get your information from the fake news media!!! Why in the world do you think Trump was elected in a huge landslide by MIDDLE CLASS AND LOW INCOME people?? He is definitely for supporting and helping us regular, everyday hardworking people who do the hard work for snobs like you! I’m sure you voted for the totally incompetent and now proven dementia Joe and his worthless vice president who did NOTHING her whole 4 years in office!! I’m so thankful my family who used to be democrats finally woke up and realized Trump is for the “little” people and voted Republican this time!
He is definitely MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!! Look what he has accomplished in such a short time!!
Pleas don’t respond, I just had to get this off my chest after reading your mis-guided information. I’ve never known a blogger who inserts her politics like that! The only reason I read yours was because it was attached to “make mine a spritzer” blog.

I am sorry you had to read something that wasn’t state propaganda or Fox News. That had to be disturbing to you.
I will make sure you are blocked, so no light gets into your attic there.

Kim, I LOVE that you care enough about your country (and the people who live in it who are not as fortunate as you) to speak about the current situation and perhaps educate others. The lady you met at the pool is definitely lacking in the self-awareness department – imagine going out of your way to deliberately avoid paying taxes for services that you yourself use! And don’t get me started on Marie – I guess she is lucky that she doesn’t live in one of those states that are suffering right now because of weather events, the effects of which could be mitigated if not for the ransacking of government departments that are there to help people.
I have said to you many times that your writings remind me that not all Americans are as uneducated and uncaring as the (very small, tiny actually) majority that voted for Trump, and that is a very good thing, thank you. ❤️

Patricia, Thanks! I totally agree… and I am just wondering when those states are going to get help? Will they even get FEMA now? I feel for them.
Aw you made my day. I am always heartened to hear more feel the same as I do, and I truly believe most people have more heart than those who support Trump. xo

Marie, I was sad to read your comment particularly since you mentioned coming over from my blog. There’s no daylight between Kim and I on matters of politics. Or I shouldn’t say politics, but the disaster that is our current government. First of all Trump did not win by a landslide. Far from it. And in terms of his helping low income and middle class people, he’s not followed through on any of his promises there. The tariffs have been a disaster and gift to China. In addition to his reckless disregard for our economy, he’s spent his entire first months enriching himself and other obscenely wealthy people at the expense of the low and middle classes. He has alienated our former allies and isolated us from the civilized world while cozying up to dictators and openly accepting bribes. I won’t go on because it sounds like you’re only willing believe propaganda put forth by the incompetent people destroying our government for their own person gain.

There’s a certain myth that continues to grip parts of the American electorate — the idea that Donald Trump is a champion of the middle class. That he’s fighting for the forgotten man, draining the swamp and putting America first. But let’s be honest: if you still believe that you’re either not paying attention or you’re willfully ignoring what’s right in front of you.

Trump didn’t drain the swamp — he built a resort on it and started charging admission.

His sons have been brokering deal after deal, leveraging not just the Trump name, but the weight of their father’s presidency. Executive orders that appear harmless on paper have quietly cleared the path for massive personal profits. Whether it’s licensing deals, land development projects or property expansions, the Trump family hasn’t been investing in America — they’ve been investing in themselves.

While everyday Americans are facing record-high grocery bills, gas prices rising despite a global dip in oil prices, and a volatile stock market, Trump keeps peddling the illusion of prosperity. He talks about bringing jobs back and making America great, all while his family signs multimillion-dollar development deals in the Middle East. That’s not reinvesting in American infrastructure — that’s exporting wealth, influence and opportunity to the highest bidder.

And yet, so many didn’t notice.

They didn’t notice that as of March 2025, taxpayers have spent approximately $30 million on Trump’s golf trips since his return to office in January. This figure includes travel expenses, security costs and accommodations. For instance, his April trip to Mar-a-Lago, which involved attending an LIV Golf event and hosting a fundraiser, incurred an estimated $4.2 million in taxpayer expenses due to its extended duration and premium helicopter transport. Each visit to Mar-a-Lago costs taxpayers about $800,000 in travel expenses alone, including the use of Air Force One, which has an hourly operational cost of nearly $200,000.

They didn’t notice when laws were passed that disproportionately benefit large corporations — not small businesses, not working families, but the mega-rich and the politically connected — leaving the middle class to pick up the tab.

Few noticed when a new private club, launched in Washington, D.C. by Donald Trump Jr., began charging a $500,000 buy-in— expectedly targeting lobbyists, administration officials and other powerful Republicans. That’s a price tag far beyond what most middle-class families will earn in years, all for the privilege of mingling behind closed doors with political power.

They didn’t notice when Trump waved off the impact of his tariffs, as if rising prices at Walmart or bankruptcies on the family farm were just collateral damage in his personal vendetta. Meanwhile, he’s profiting off crypto speculation while entire communities lose their economic lifelines.

And while all of this unfolds, America’s military is placed in jeopardy, entrusted to individuals whose qualifications raise serious questions — because loyalty, not expertise, seems to be the currency of Trump’s White House.

The new tax plan, a win for working families? The full story tells a different tale. While most middle-income households would see small cuts, the real windfall goes to the wealthy, who would pocket the largest share of the benefits. Proposals like tax-free tips and Social Security sound like populist relief, but they barely move the needle for everyday Americans. And behind the scenes, the plan risks deep spending cuts to programs ordinary families actually rely on, all to finance permanent breaks for those at the top. It’s not just misleading, it shifts the burden downward while dressing it up as middle-class relief.

So, how is it that so many smart, hardworking, middle-class Americans are still standing behind a man who is, in essence, selling them beachfront property in Arizona — a fantasy wrapped in a gold-plated sales pitch?

You rail against members of Congress who get rich while in office — and rightfully so. But then you give the president a pass because he was already a millionaire? That logic is not just flawed, it’s dangerous. It excuses corruption, normalizes profiteering and makes a mockery of public service.

Donald Trump isn’t fighting for the middle class. He’s using them. As cover, as props, as pawns. And the sooner we wake up to that fact, the sooner we can get back to building a country that truly works for the people — not just the powerful.

I will share this again and link to your piece which gets to the heart of the issue, which is Trump cares for one person, himself, and getting richer.
The care of our nation is nowhere and the dismantling is bring framed as ‘cost cutting’?

      Marie
Please fact check before you comment or post. Trump’s victory was not a landslide but any measure. As noted in “The Hill” a centrist publication on January 20, 2025:
“Trump’s 1.5 percent popular vote victory is one of the smallest ever — just a fraction of Lyndon B. Johnson’s 22.6 percent landslide win in 1964. Trump failed to secure a majority of the popular vote, at 49.7 percent, unlike George W. Bush in 2004 (50.3 percent), Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012 (52.9 percent and 51 percent) and Joe Biden in 2020 (51.3 percent). And while Trump won all seven swing states, his 312 electoral votes were only a handful more than Biden’s 306 in 2020 — and far less than Obama’s 365 in 2008 or Ronald Reagan’s 525 in 1984.”

I desperatly need to replace our 20 yr. old quilt set as it’s been washed so many times, it’s developing holes. It has Euro shams which we use nightly as we like to sit up in bed and read. I’ve had no luck finding a replacement as everything seems to come with standard sized shams. Humph.

I felt my blood pressure spike just reading about the conversation you had in Hawaii. SO many who game the system yet happily deny those who just hope for a decent life.

    • kimwheeler says

      May 17, 2025 at 7:39 am

Barb, I hear you! Euro shams are harder to find and quite pricey! They seem to sell them separately now from the bedding, so it can get expensive. I would go to Quince as they have a nice selection and they are not as pricey and start at $29 here:
      https://rstyle.me/+jKHFh1t4k1Qw80ICoM-lEw
They have matching quilts and quilt sets here that are nice:
      https://rstyle.me/+vZE3BEUq5N8zR1aSmCOATQ
      Maybe that will help?

I know just upsetting that so many people have this mindset! I have hope we can finally see what it all leads to- more for the wealthiest, and loss of all our wonderful programs that uplift people, and make our society stronger and thrive, but they don’t get it.

Hi Kim, thanks for recommending the Ogee Tinted Sculpted Lip Oil! I’ve been on the hunt for an easy summer lip product and this looks wonderful. I’m planning on ordering one (maybe two) today. 🙂 The only problem will be deciding on a color — they all look so beautiful.

On a more sober note, I am in total agreement with you regarding your politics. I, too, have family members who rail against immigrants (and believe that they are taking government handouts), yet those same family members take advantage of the tax laws (including using an address from another state as their “home,” while actually living in California). They say nothing about the millions of dollars wasted by our government: 1) to deport immigrants to foreign prisons; 2) for the (unethical) gift of a luxury jet from Qatar (which will cost approximately $1 billion to update); and 3) for the upcoming U.S. Army parade for our orange leader’s June birthday party, to name a few. You can’t make this up!

Hi Maureen! You will love this Ogee lip stuff. I want another too. Perfect for summer!
Yep, I know you are so right about the tax grift by so many Americans, which they don’t have a problem with, and it costs us billions more than these social programs! No shame there right? The leader himself brags about it.
Thank you for laying out the outrageous costs to us by this administration thus far. The deportations and private jets to private prisons could be paying for college for so many and free lunches nationwide, but we prefer this military cosplay BS with people who haven’t even been proven to be criminals.
The billions to upgrade a jet from a nation that Trump said just a few years ago is bribing and buying- but now is okay? The military parade of $40 million for his birthday, and the golf trips to his properties where we pay the hotel bills and private jets has alone cost US taxpayers $30 million so far this year, per the Guardian.
Let’s keep being loud about this.

    Dear Kim,
As always loved the post. I need to update our bedding, but it may be next year. Lots of $ going out the door for rug cleaning and wall papering! I do love the inspo.
I generally try to avoid talking to those who think differently because it’s a waste of my time, and I know I should engage. I did so this week with my step father while discussing birth right citizenship. I had listened to the SCOTUS hearing and found it fascinating . I am particularly thankful for the women on the court who asked such good questions and made such good points. I might have even moved my step father a bit. But boy is it difficult. Loved your response to Marie.

Agree, I almost didn’t keep talking to that lady- but I did want to hear her. It’s not fun or easy to engage with them.
Your stepfather sounds like my dad. We can occasionally have civil talk about things. He will listen to my thoughts. I love hearing what SCOTUS questions are. Agree the women seem to have the most thoughtful queries and comments. What if we had even more women on the court? Good for you talking with your step-dad. Sometimes it’s just sharing your viewpoint that opens their minds a bit!! xo

I looked up “Ba sh” in downtown,Vancouver since I will be there briefly to pick up my cousin visiting from South Africa. I love the dress you are wearing! Just so perfect on you, Kim. Unfortunately, it is $500CAD and the matching blouse is $300CAD. Oh well😕. As for bed linen, I rather over spent before moving to Vancouver Island several years back, thinking that shops like Pottery Barn wouldn’t be available . So I have some really nice options as the seasons change , all with the base colour of sea glass . Actually, I was able to set up a friend , who also downsized to a small solo home like me last year, due to my abundant supply. And there is a great bed & bath boutique nearby after all, where I added coordinates for my LLBean towels . I find that a comfortable well dressed bed sets me up for a good day. While you met fellow travellers in Hawaii with very different political views than you , the Americans I met back in March, during my visit to Amsterdam , were obviously kindred spirits to my views and yours. We left to continue our separate journeys after a warm hug …which I found endearing . I have the bumper sticker…COEXIST …letters made up of different symbols …you may know it. It may cause drivers behind me to consider that message …especially due to horrid world events, but also here in Canada, where there can be ongoing rifts. You carry on being strong and true to your beliefs, Kim. You can do it all on YOUR blog…and your witty response to Marie was appropriate. Sad , yet frightening , that so many still think like she does.

Hi Kim, I appreciate the discussion about bedding. We recently needed a new cotton lighter bed cover, and I chose the Organic Airy Gauze Blanket from Quince. I’ve been happy with the quality of it. I also appreciate the recommendation about the book “Abundance,” and I’ve already placed it on hold on my Libby app. Apparently, it’s a quite popular book, as the hold time for me is 20 weeks, but I’ll wait. As far as dresses, I’ve been dabbling in vintage 50s dresses for the past few years. I find them on Etsy. The quality is fantastic, and the cotton fabrics are great for our hot summers in Texas.
It was interesting to hear your conversation with the well-off people who don’t want to contribute to a better society for everyone. Fascinating that they feel fine using public resources like roads, utilities, public places, etc., yet don’t feel compelled to contribute. They are not the first I’ve heard of like this. Your response to Marie was appropriate. Also fascinating that people like this are so compelled to hold up their leader, and so compelled to tear down others. Sad, that these folks feel so much hate. However, like another commenter said, we move on, and I still feel optimistic that the hate will ultimately be defeated. There are so many good people out there. XO

What a brilliant idea to look for vintage 50’s dresses. I bet they are lovely and well made! A few years ago I saw a few vintage Hawaiian ones on Etsy and I was really tempted. You inspire me, maybe I’ll get back to that search!
You are right, and I don’t get it with this support of this man, who cares zip for anyone.
I am optimistic too- and especially when I get notes like yours. I do believe there are more of us, and good will overcome this.
Thank you for being out there in Texas, where I know a heck of a lot great people.

Kim- I look forward to the trio of Saturday inspirations that come from you to my inbox. I always enjoy the home design and fashion inspiration, but I am especially glad to read your very informative political pieces. I don’t know how you managed to stay calm in the conversation with the MAGA tax evader in Hawaii, but reading all of the attached articles gives me more “ammunition” to stand up to and hopefully educate those who have falling down the gaslighting hole. I also appreciate that as a blogger, you are willing to put your viewpoint out there when you know that you will always uncover potential hatred and backlash.
I loved watching Rachel each night on MSNBC, and always ended my day with a feeling of hopefulness and with realistic ideas about how to fight this autocratic regime in place now. You also provide the same “feels”, so I will continue to read, share and protest with my 75 year old body.
It gave me great pleasure to read your “blocking you” comment, and I will have to add it to my own clap-back list for the huge army of misinformed, racist, and otherwise impaired humans.

Wow, Kim, the conversation you had with the woman in Hawaii was something else! I guess like Trump and his ilk they see themselves as “smart” for gaming the system. I’m always amazed at people who rant about “socialist” handouts for those in need but have zero qualms about wealthy corporations being granted massive tax breaks that enable them to pay nothing. When a company as successful as Walmart has a large share of employees who require public assistance just to afford the fundamentals, there is something seriously wrong. We the taxpayers carry the burden of funding both the corporate tax loopholes AND the needs of the employees that they underpay. It’s ludicrous! Keep fighting the good fight, Kim.

    Hi Kim,
Being comfortable sleeping is extremely important. Good for you on taking on a huge project. Lots of research to make sure you are purchasing the right thing. We have so many pillows for sleeping. I’m not sure I’m sleeping on the one that is best for my neck. I live my silk pillowcase. It needs replacing probably but it’s still is in good shape. I got that from my Cuddledown catalogue. Live the light blue duvet cover, peaceful color. Let us know what you and Max think of the side sleep pillow from Quince.
Like the green dress from Ba&sh on you. You suit the colors.
That lady that you were talking to in Hawaii is not going to be your new best friend. To brag about how she manipulates the system speaks volumes how she is a person. Errr!
    Have a wonderful weekend
I like how you kissed that reader goodbye. The less said sometimes the better. How anyone can be so miss directed puzzles me. Along with the rest of miss guided people. Scary !!!

Good morning Kim. I hope you find the bedding you like. The choices sometimes are overwhelming! I find once it starts to warm up I use two lightweight coverlets and then when it gets too hot, I use just one. I gave up on duvet covers a long time ago so in the winter I use a velvet coverlet and our fur throw is nice and toasty!
Wow that conversation with the couple in Hawaii. Quite astounding and hypocritical. Curious who is remodeling their home? Probably at least half of the workers during our remodel were Hispanic. They were hard working and pretty much the only ones that ever worked late or showed up on a Saturday. As far as Marie’s comment goes, it’s so frustrating to see how many STILL can’t see beyond the B.S. with Trump and this administration. He is only in office to enrich himself and his family and to stay out of prison. Stephen Miller is his little puppet master. His supporters must just live in their little bubble. Your response was perfect as were the many other comments. I read every one!
Love all the dresses on you. Probably difficult to choose! Your home could be featured in a Serena and Lily catalog, you have done a great job furnishing it. We mostly have decor accessories and pillow shams from S&L but I love the counter stools we bought for the new kitchen. Especially those removable cushions, that’s what sold me on them. I have seen them featured in design books and on home tours too!

I know I was thinking the same about her home remodel and we had the same with our guys who did ours. Great hispanic guys and they were the best, unlike a lot of others.
Sad what people are believing and induraiting getting the truth out with so many brainwashed.
Oh I bet your stools are pretty. Yes the removable cushions are the best. Mine are like new thankfully because of it. xo

I learned to scuba dive and backpack for him -and he learned to love (okay abide) museums and Jane Austen films!
We had so much fun raising our boys. He is the best person I know and I feel so lucky.
Love you @trinidadmaxon
Did you know Venice’s Abbott Kinney Boulevard is a Did you know Venice’s Abbott Kinney Boulevard is an experimental spot for new retail and shops? We spent a few hours there last Saturday with our son Jackson who’s recently moved to LA. There’s so many fun concept stores and new brands to discover!
I bought a handbag for fall from an adorable brand @ciao__lucia and Jackson loved the shirts and pants @cookman.usa. We loved @ourplace with bright cookware and kitchen equipment.
More details about my bag -and the cool brands on the weekend blog.

I have no words. Such a beautiful inspiring human. I have no words. Such a beautiful inspiring human. I can’t listen to Dolly’s voice and song here without crying. ☹️🩷
I am grateful she was part of our lives. May her memory inspire more folks to be even half of who she was.

This one from @shophuntandbloom is perfect in size for my bar or a kitchen. I discovered H&B looking for plates for my kitchen wall.

The weekend newsletter is up and I’m sharing my cute new lamp, a fig couscous, some gardening and more.

Dig in the drawer, wear what you own, and mix it up. ✨Some ideas for that too on August’s Signature Style.

Today on the blog, I’m sharing the best summer sal Today on the blog, I’m sharing the best summer salad you will ever make. This is a longtime favorite from my friend Alex who is an incredible entertainer. She always makes everything California casual, and seemingly thrown together, but it tastes and looks fabulous! 😎

This salad uses the best of summer so make it soon!
The salad 🥗 is…
~Washed butter and a mix of greens (not bagged right now)
~Watermelon cubed
~Baby tomatoes halved
~3 ears of white corn (slice off uncooked and rinsed.)
~Red onion sliced
~Toasted pine nuts
~Feta cheese crumbled ( I substituted mozzarella here as my feta went bad.)
~Poppyseed dressing. Yes bottled. Sorry, but it is so good. I used Brianna’s as the original recipe calls for it.

Assemble and toss gently with the dressing. Top with pinenuts and blue corn chips crumbled are good too.

Alex’s salad is a great one to share at a gathering because it makes so much and can also be a terrific dinner with a protein added.

The full recipe on a card to save is on the blog, along with other delicious summer food ideas from five friends.
