It’s time for the weekend meander with Elizabeth and Juliet! How was your week? It’s been a little busy around these parts. I have been trying to prep for Thanksgiving and also help Griffin slowly move his apartment contents back into our small house. Yikes. The kittens have been growing and getting into all sorts of mischief. I can’t believe they still squeeze together on their cat tree to sleep. They have other beds, but prefer this!
Just starting to think about Christmas
I got two sort of holiday things…I added this cute runner from West Elm to my table. I will use this for Thanksgiving through Christmas. Right now I just have a few of my pumpkins on it still. Rico who is being naughty getting up on the table here, seems to approve. West Elm also has a great ornament collection this year! I am going to get a few for the tree and for gifts.
I stumbled upon this fun Merry & Chic book at Anthropologie and had to have it. It’s a beautiful book with inspiring rooms, decor and gift ideas, entertaining and recipes all for Christmas. If you want some new inspiration, this is a good one to get right now- or for someone who loves Christmas.
Manet & Morisot
Friday I went to The Legion of Honor with my friend Heidi to see the exhibition Manet and Morisot that I wrote about a few weeks ago. We had planned this a while ago and Heidi is a member so she kindly invited me to be her guest.
We got really lucky the weather was gorgeous and sunny. It is an hour plus drive up there. but Friday the traffic is lighter. I always forget how gorgeous the Legion of Honor building and its setting are. The ocean views in the afternoon were incredible for November!
Heidi and I bundled up as the museum can be chilly.
We got there in time to grab lunch in the cafe. We shared the large beet salad with burrata and an onion tarte. The food was good, but the menu is small. It’s quite fancy and pricey and could use a darn club sandwich. Of six entrees, they were all in the high $20s! I think cake and coffee is the best idea here.
The show was about how Manet was a friend and mentor to younger Morisot. He was influenced by her more fluid looser style of painting. She was the first woman in the impressionist movement. He later evolved to that style too. They have gathered some of the most beautiful works of these two. I am a huge Morisot fan after seeing this. I love her focus on women in everyday settings and the softness in which she sees them.
Afterwards we went back to have a break and some cake and then peruse the gift shops. We both bought this pretty Dahlia’s bandana sized scarf of Morisot. The museum has such a great collection of books and gifts. It is a great place to shop for holiday gifts. We had some fun trying on hats! I would encourage you to get to this exhibit which ends on March 1, 2026!
Lingua Franca x Kris and Dave
I adore Kris and Dave, southern veterans live in Detroit in an old Craftsman and are fighting for democracy. I was excited that they did a collaboration with Lingua Franca with some of Kris’s quotes from their Instagram like ‘Hugs and Resistance, Do Better, Be Better, Read a Book, We are the Matriarchy, and Have the Day You Deserve‘.

Gaslighting and white washing abuse
When Karoline Leavitt was asked about Trump’s hateful and demeaning ‘shut up piggy’ to a journalist one Air Force One, she said we should be grateful for Trump’s verbal abuse and the way he is, ‘frank, open and honest,’ is respectful.
Say what? This is gaslighting of another order and absolutely sick.
This is often a feature of abusive relationships. You are told how lucky you are to be with the abuser and you aren’t being abused- and it is all in your mind.
I truly believe the American people are being abused by Trump, and this administration. We have his chief propagandist telling us not to believe our eyes and ears. Time for us to stop the press conferences and the oval office questions as they are nothing more than platforms of propaganda to prop up the hateful dialogue!
Trump could use a good karate chop from Miss Piggy herself.
I will try to add a few Black Friday deals to the post later this weekend, but I am really focused this year on trying to shop small and in my town. I hope you do too. There are so many great gifts to be had at small stores and we help keep our small shops in our towns! Every time we choose Amazon, Walmart, or Target, we help fund more billionaires, and take away from the small businesses that make our towns unique.

I had no idea of their friendship and agree with you I am now a Morist fan, her work it beautiful. I will be down a rabbit hole today looking at her art and reading more about her.

I got an email from Indivisible this week, advising of a Black Friday to Cyber Monday boycott of Target, Amazon and Home Depot. I hope you don’t mind if I share that info here, as sometimes it is hard to keep up on how we can fight back. Financially boycotting the corporations that cave to this administration’s agenda can have a large impact. I support your plan to shop small and shop locally.

I too am appalled by what the P said and even more so that no one called him on it. That the other press members just stood there? What is wrong with people. If a teacher in a classroom said that to a child or even a co-worker they would be out of a job. And if he said that in public what kind of abuse must people working with him endure?
Worse of course are the cruel policies and abusive way they are carried out.
I was struck that no one called him on it too! The press corps should band together and walk away whenever he is disrespectful. Happy Thanksgiving Kim, to you and all readers!

Love Kris and Dave, their posts started popping up in my feed lately…maybe because I follow you. Ugh Trump is off the rails. This week his behavior was disgusting… a pig calling someone else piggy. Laughable. He does not like it when a female reporter challenges him. He is such a misogynist. And yeah, the gaslighting is just amazing. How do people not see through him and Karoline? I can barely listen to her…almost as bad as hearing Trump speak!

Well the entire day with you was a blast – yummy lunch, fabulous art, delicious cake and all the talk, talk, talk, and laughing!! It’s better to see art with someone who appreciates it too, and I’m so glad we could take this little field trip together.
The outrageous behavior of the administration just makes me wonder what everyone is trying to get away with? What are they hiding, what do they want from Trump? Why else would they so blindly follow and excuse the nastiness and the blatant corruption? I’m just incensed.
I am excited about the sparkly anthro sweater which I ordered after your last post, it should arrive in a few days. And the PJs are on their way too. I swear January will be a “no shopping month”, but I am enjoying an occasional splurge for myself while I gather gifts for under the tree!

I had a serendipitous moment in the gift store (other than the NY Met one of the best art gift stores); there was jewelry featured by Kelley Hollis. Anyway, I DM’d her about a couple of heavy pieces my mother had and she is turning them into necklaces. Turns out she lives about 1/2 mile from me in Berkeley. She is such a great find!

The best is what I want to focus on first. I just love those sweet little rascals, Rico, and Alfie. I forget how they get into everything. Rico seems to be more curious and into mischievous than Alfie. It’s important you have helpers you know. They both are so adorable sleeping in their kitty condo, all snuggled up together. Too sweet. Our Romeo & Juliet used to do the same exact thing most of the time. The Penthouse is usually their living favorite place to hang out at or to go to sleep together. I adore good sweet cats. It’s too bad they are miss understood by some people.
You and Heidi are so much fun, I love how you enjoy and do great things together. The Manet & Morisut exhibit looks fabulous, love the art. Glad you had great weather. Hats look cute on you both. Great shopping finds too. Museum gift shops are great places to pick up meaningful gifts for yourself and others.
The 34 Felon just continues to talk and act out how despicable he is. YES YES YES, he needs to be totally knocked out and then locked up by Miss Piggy. The “shut up piggy” is for him. Pigs can look cute. He does not even deserve that title.
I hope you aren’t feeling too terribly stressed out by all the adjustments that you have had to make. I don’t know what we would do without having a three car garage and all the custom storage cabinets we had made years ago. I get it, we have way too much stuff. I tend to save too much because I think I just may need that down the line. When I hit my clothes closet and 21 huge garbage bags later I can’t believe why 🤷♀️I donated my wonderful Leopard coat. My head should have been examined. Oh well, I hope the person who purchased it feels like a million bucks in it.

Are the jeans forgiving across the thighs? I am very wary of ordering clothes online, as it is a pain returning them and I believe posting to the USA is problematic from Australia as well. But, the jacket just might be worth the hassle

Oh my gosh, every time Ms. Leavitt opens her mouth I am just amazed at the nonsense that comes out! I’ve just started reading a book about women in Nazi Germany – it’s quite old, from the 80s – and it really makes me wonder about the women who are associated with this administration.

Thanks for the great post. I would love to see the art exhibit. In the 1980’s my husband and I made a point of visiting the Palace of the Legion of Honor after seeing the Hitchcock film, Vertigo. It was wonderful and you’re right. The setting is spectacular. I’m glad you mentioned Kris and Dave. They are my cup of tea. Thank you for speaking out against the hateful Piggie comment.
