Fall Wardrobe Stuff…and Closets

October 21, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

My bowl of bracelets. Perfect for the pile-it-on jewelry trend for Fall!

Don’t you love Fall clothes? I really do look forward to chunky sweaters and boots. I Loooove herringbone, tweeds, cable-knits, argyles, cashmere, camel hair and all the lush fabrics that embody this season !

When I was a small girl, I loved school shopping with my Mom.  I could picture myself meeting my teacher in my new dress, fresh knee-high socks and shiny mary-janes. Growing up, there was always some item of clothing I coveted that would change my world if I could just get it. Clothes lovers you know what I mean! My Mom, bless her, always made sure I had a few special things, even when we didn’t have a ton of money. One, I remember, was a red faux fur coat in elementary school, another time it was flowered denim platforms in fourth grade and later, in junior high, brown dittos jeans and boots that laced up. That last ensemble went along with a knit cap with a flower I loved! As you can probably guess, I stood out. That wasn’t always a good thing. Yeah, I was harassed throughout my school career for my non-conforming clothing choices. I was the first girl at my high-school to wear ankle jeans in the early eighties.  They were so cool, but they called me high-water girl.  Anyway, I have suffered for fashion willingly since childhood!

Back-to-school shopping is now for my two boys. Getting a few special new pieces for myself is fun too. As far as the closet, I try to take a hard look at what I have actually worn in the past year and donate what hasn’t and what is looking faded or worn. I’ve noticed it’s the finer things I have added that have stood the test of time so I try to add one or two a season, if I can afford it. Sure, I also still like a few new trendy things from places like H&M, Banana and J. Crew that I throw in the mix. I am trying hard to buy less and only things I am truly crazy about. Otherwise, they just end up taking closet space. As a close friend recently said, if you haven’t worn it within a week of buying it, you probably won’t. True that!

This is the perfect time to point out the virtues of a fabulous book that really got me revved up about Fall wardrobes, closets and starting fresh. It’s called, Practical Princess Perfect Wardrobe, and it got my tail into gear regarding my closet. The author, Elika Gibbs, styles and organizes closets for the rich and fabulous, (Kate Moss, ladies!)  She knows her stuff.  It has many helpful tips, that you should be doing, but probably aren’t.  For instance, how to keep things ultra clean so you will never get moths, and how to properly store every kind of garment and why it even matters. Loved this book and if you are into clothing you will too.

Some of the fashion books I keep on my closet shelves.

Here’s a peek into my weeny closet. It’s tiny, but I don’t share it, unlike my old larger walk-in. I kind of like it smaller and to myself. I love to fill it with sachets, and a candle, that make it smell girly. I also have some shelves that I like to place jewelry, accessories and bags. I try to rotate them out each season, where I can see them.  I like putting a small inspiration board of pictures up from the latest Vogue or whatever I love! It’s fun- you should try it. I did it for the first time in Summer and I enjoyed seeing it in there when I dressed and now I just changed it for Fall. It also gave me some ideas for getting dressed when I was feeling uninspired. This is like my only personal spot in the whole house, so I tried to glam it up a bit and really make it my own little sanctuary, though it is a closet!

I display my jewelry so I can remember to wear it. I recently bought a pretty bowl from Anthropologie that I pile all my bracelets into. I love seeing them sparkle on the shelf. I also use the tie racks that were originally built into the closet for my necklaces. It makes it so much easier to see what I have. I put these by metal and color. Check out my cute owl necklace my sweet friend Jen gave me if you can see it.

So ladies, get on with the de-cluttering, as one of my favorites bloggers, Faux Fushia always says. While you’re at it, get yourself a Vogue or Bazaar too. Lucky us, we can do back-to-school clothes without the school !

Fall Style !

October 11, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

Bracelet piling- very big this year. Short painted nails also look very chic and fresh.

Now that October and cooler weather has arrived, I thought I’d throw out there a few style pictures for inspiration. In case you don’t follow the fashion rags, here’s a capsule of the latest trends for Fall.  I don’t know about you, but I enjoy seeing what’s hot and how women on the street are working it into their own looks!  These pics are from Tommy Ton of Style.com. Enjoy!
The faux fur vest seems quite big this year, ( literally!)
Love the jacket and clutch with tassel. Aren’t tassels fab?
Check out her colors and more bracelet piling!
Dots are big too. Check out the bright clutch and again the bracelets.

Bracelets again and mixing metals.
Floppy 70s hats are apparently back. The trench is still a good investment and animal prints are still  hot.
She’s working the animal prints and the bracelet thing.
Capes look fabulous darlings. I just want to be her! I had a cape in 3rd grade.

Citrus people! Embrace it. Drink your orange juice!
She’s adorable. Love the color-blocking and her shades. Pony looks cool too.
More floppy hats. You could steal this from your kids’ Indiana Jones costume.

Stripes are still chic and wearing your purse as a clutch. I know if I wore this I’d get Bee remarks from my family…

She’s working the stripes into her Fall.
Love her trench and scarf.  Notice how she ties it? It’s all in the tying and it’s got to look like you did it carelessly, but of course if it looks good you didn’t!  Got that trench wearers?

More brights and chunky jewelry. I’m digging the ring.
Black tights are back in a big way and color-blocking with black is too.
Black tights and some pops of bright color are on my shopping list. I don’t think you need a new wardrobe, but just a few little pieces to make it fresh and current. I’m going to try my nails short and dark with a ton of bracelets too. What do you love or hate for Fall?

Figs People!

September 25, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

We are right in the middle of prime fig season now! You know how it is with figs, – you’re either a fan or not. I have to say I’m a fan! I love them all! Green, black, brown, they are all amazing. My favorite is the brown turkey fig! They look like a little round turkey.

I started like most of you, who think they hate figs. I never tried one, except for Fig Newtons, until I had them in a couscous, at a friends house. I got recruited to slice green figs for it and was completely mystified at how to handle them and if you ate the skin, etc. I learned fast and well, the rest is history.

This recipe calls for a box of plain couscous, figs cut in quarters, (or smaller if you prefer), browned rings of a shallot, toasted pine nuts, and olive oil and salt to taste. I have to say, it is probably one of my most favorite things in the world! Just try it and you will see.

This dish started my love affair with the fig and now I try to use it whenever I can.  Here’s another -a salad I threw together. Don’t they just make everything look so luscious? They’re great with mint too.

One time, I also made a yummy appetizer for the hubster and his friend Justin, with figs, a bit of goat cheese and a walnut on the top. Delicious! Love that with a cold glass of white wine on a late Summer afternoon. Love to know what everyone else does with figs. Enjoy it’s a short season!

Our fig-appreciating friend, Justin. Had to add him!

Indian Summer

September 22, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

Loving the weather right now here in Nor Cal. I think we are having what I think of as an Indian Summer, so late in the year. However, you might want to click on this link. According to Wikipedia,  the name Indian Summer, has many different definitions and orgins. Don’t you love learning new things? I found it quite interesting!

Here, in the Bay Area, I love this time of the year for late evening walks, harvesting the last of the summer garden and enjoying the bounty. Though, sometimes, we are still getting tomatoes in late October! Just check out these gorgeous tomatoes from my Dad’s garden! Wish I could send the smell. Just love to see them on the counter.

Winery lunch!

Last week, I had the good fortune to go wine tasting twice! Once, was with school Moms, for a tasting and picnic we try to do at the start and ending of the school year. I highly recommend this tradition! Then, last weekend, our dear friends also asked us to go with them to pick up some bottles and taste at the winery they belong to. We brought our families and had a ball. This is the season people!

Check out this Peacock who stopped by to say hi at our lunch! Loved him, but some of the girls were not so enamored!

I just love tasting a few wines in the afternoon, and a picnic after. It’s always memorable and really makes you stop and realize what a gift friends and life are. Even a short trip to a winery for a few hours seems like a getaway. And as parents of school age kids, we need to grab those small bits!!

The view from my window- can you see the birds in the plant?

I don’t know if you can see, but a whole flock of beautiful goldfinches have invaded this Sunflower that my son bought and planted on the front porch. I couldn’t believe it until I heard this crazy chirping. At one point there was 8 at a time on it! Didn’t know Sunflowers were such an attraction for the little darlings, but I’m getting more of these. They are gorgeous birds and blend right in with the plant. I love sunny afternoons with the late-afternoon light flooding the room and their sweet chirping.

Couldn’t resist adding this Fallish pic of my boys on a swing in Carmel.

Speaking of small bits and children, well it’s that time again! Time for the annual scout popcorn drive. my husband and I have done this now for, 7 years I think. My fourth grader hit the court people up. (Sorry ladies!), and was so proud to have sold $100 worth of that…stuff! Here he is now, on the left, a year one Weeblo with his dear buddy. Love this age.

Yesterday, I actually found a gorgeous cable knit cardigan on sale at Banana, and also was spying some pretty suede booties at J.Crew. Then I was thinking if I had time to plan one more pool party before our weather turns. Guess I’ve got one foot in Summer and the other in Fall. I’m thankful to enjoy it all so long here.

Italian Style

September 20, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

Lovely Florence

Yesterday, I ran out out to the mall to do a quick errand and dropped into a designer store to lust after the shoes and bags. While I was dreaming of what I might buy, I was complimented on my Furla bag. The  sales guy asked me about it and loved it’s color. I immediately thought back to last summer when we traveled to Italy and the very chic Italian lady who helped me choose it.

My Furla

The four of us, traveled to Rome, Florence, and Venice. I may do a post on the trip in the future, but it really was beyond beautiful. We all loved it. The one thing I noticed immediately, was the amazingly stylish way Italians dressed. They have a chic that is quite different from the French, who have an off-handed style.

This gentleman is on his way to work in Rome.  Would you ever see someone dressed so nice on a bike here?

Most Italians wear clothing that looks custom-made to fit them. The clothing just looks luxurious, the fabrics and details. Their garments are simple, not fussy, but they fit their bodies perfectly. Also, they have the most amazing shoes! Everyone had gorgeous leather shoes, as I guess you would expect.

A couple in Florence. Don’t you love how they kind of match?

A chic older couple. How often do you see 60 year olds dressed this nicely?

My husband thought I was a nut, but I took a few stealth pictures of Italians. Men in gorgeous suits on bikes and scooters, couples dressed to go out for the night and the like.  One thing I could not take a picture of was the clean, unmade-up faces of the Italian women. These women wear no foundation, no anything and natural hair which is not blown dry. Seeing women like this, I can see how Raphael and Botticelli were inspired by Italian women. I wanted to be one. No finger or toe polish on these girls and it looked damn good. You could see the Americans coming miles away and we all looked like we tried just so hard. These women embraced their natural selves, walked with beautiful posture and exuded an almost intangible beauty.

Which brings me back to my bag… I was hoping to buy at least one nice leather item on my trip. In Venice, I found myself in Furla which is one of the few places you can buy leather bags a little more inexpensively than they are sold in the states. The saleslady was one of those natural Italians. Very friendly, she and I chatted about both having two boys, (yes, I was shopping with men- of course they were outside!) She, being about the same mid-forties age as myself, had not a stitch of makeup, short naturally curly dark hair, unpainted nails and was so fresh looking. The same description of someone here might be akin to a granola type. That could not be farther from the truth in Italy.

My boys in Florence at an beautiful fruit stand.

She kindly gave me her opinions on bags I tried on and ventured to suggest a teal, slouchy, over-sized bucket bag. I would have never thought of such a strong color and shape, but on it was wow! I loved it and got the matching wallet too. In my mind, I needed a neutral that would be an investment. She was so on the money and ahead of fashion. Now, in this season of color, I am very in style with my teal bag and the shape is so unique too. Each time I put it on, I think of that very stylish and sweet Italian mother and take a little makeup off too.

Above Florence with my younger son.
A rainy day in Venice.

Loving right now…umbrella stands!

June 7, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

The weather is picking up here and sun has shown her face today! Just in time for my crazy report that the umbrella stand can be repurposed and very well!

How I got into this, I’m not sure. I was obsessing over finding an asian-inspired one last fall. I was working on making the perfect mud room entry and adore the umbrella stand. It always looks so neat with a row of coat hooks or a coat tree.

The first one I found was from, where else, TJ Max, with a lion on it. Used it for a bit at my other house until some beast, (i.e. boy/boys) cracked it. It is still holding together. In the interim, I found an adorable metal one. Looks possibly like it was originally a flower bucket, but was just right in my mud room!

I have now found the perfect one I originally had in my head, at Pier 1. It’s the very traditional blue willow ware look. The problem is, during our hellish Winter, all our brollys broke and now I have only one small orange one left. What to do with these stands? I couldn’t put them away. They are too cute. I stuffed the lion one with some stiff grocery bags and set a darling Ivy on one. Love it! It also gives Ivy room to trail. This stand would be adorable in pairs flanking a door. Now if I could find the mate!

The metal flower bucket became a powder room trash can. You know, this was accidental. I had  taken a gross waste basket out and the kids kept complaining there wasn’t one in the mud room bath.
I moved it three feet into there and, viola, the perfect trash can. I am also loving the depth of it. I don’t know if you are like me, but I simply hate a full trash can and can’t relax until it’s emptied. This way, you see nothing, it’s so deep! Love it.

The pretty blue one is now housing our families’ collection of beach sticks from various walks. Looks summery like that right in front of the fireplace!

I’m off now to search out more of these cute stands for my other baths!!

Summer…almost?

June 1, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

Here in Northern Cal we have had very cool weather. Our Memorial Day was the coldest I can ever remember! We had a rainy and cool weekend and this week promises to be the same right through the next weekend. Our Memorial BBQ was kind of a bust. I was so excited to finally use the pool here at our new home. We have lived here for almost 8 months now and due to pool equipment or weather, we hadn’t had a chance to really splash in it yet! We finally got the pool clean and actually heated.

Last weekend we also made a decision and bought some backyard furniture. It took us a while to decide, but I am very excited to get some new things back there and make the yard my own. The previous owners had done a lovely job of landscaping and left us a ton of Smith and Hawken teak which we appreciated. There is quite a lot of it and I am going to get rid of a bit of it. Some of it has been here about 20 years or so.

I am really liking the new aluminum coated furnishings that are available for outside right now. We have one set that we bought from Smith and Hawken before they closed. (Such a shame that was!) Now I have bought 3 chaises that are from Tropitone that look like wrought iron, but are the aluminum with wide straps. I like these because they have no pillows to worry about or store during Winter and I can hose them off if the kids eat sticky popsicles on them. I love how the teak looks, but hate the upkeep on it.

Tropitone is a California company and has been around for more than 40 years. My Grandparents had one of their sets in the yard of their very mid-century modern home in the 60’s and my Aunt is still using the pieces on her deck in Discovery Bay! That was a pretty good testament to their quality for me. It seems almost like you are condoning tanning by purchasing chaise lounges, but I really adore how they look around the pool.  Just the idea of a chaise plus a book makes relax. My family and I always flock to them any place we stay. I thought it would look nice with my red umbrella above them. I will post pictures when I get them out there. (And it’s not raining!) Now I just hope I actually get time to sit on one and read a bit this Summer or enjoy a margarita with a friend! I starting to think we are becoming Seattle here!

Yosemite in Winter

March 21, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

One lovely thing we managed to do this Winter was take our kids to Yosemite. We had never taken our  boys, which is practically criminal, living in the Bay Area! My husband also had been yearning to see Yosemite with snow.

We headed up during February school break for three nights. Our family stayed at Yosemite Lodge, on the valley floor. It was blissfully uncrowded, sunny and bright. The surrounding wonders were covered in snow and made for the most awe-inspiring views. My boys were really thrilled by the nature, especially my seventh grader. He spent a lot of time taking shots with his phone and making screen savers that looked like paintings!

The most fun for them was probably the chance to ski at Badger Pass. A lot of people don’t realize it’s part of the park and a wonderful ski area. When you stay at the valley floor you can get a bus ride up. It’s supposed to take 45 minutes, but the luxury bus combined with El Capitan and Half Dome made for a really fun trip. The lodge itself is very cute and the mountain has 10 runs, which were great for my boys who are intermediates. My black diamond skier hubby even enjoyed it. One bummer was that I was unable to ski due to a torn calf muscle I popped just 2 days before going for a tennis volley.

After a hard day of skiing- kicking it at the Ahwahnee.

I sucked it up and brought my books to the lodge. I have to say I didn’t mind hanging out there. The first day I was able to sit out on their very large sun deck and see the boys came down their runs. Snow flurries filled our second day and I found a cozy seat to read my book, and watch through the windows. Lovely place and kind people. No, this is not Aspen or Squaw. If you are looking for a great spot to take your family, this is it! The funny thing is my boys both said they wanted to go back here over Tahoe. They have skied Bear Valley, Squaw and Homewood before. One thing I think they really liked about Badger was the uncrowded slopes. There were no boarders zig-zagging around them or speed demons. Their skiing confidence level was considerably raised after two days here. They pushed their boundaries a bit maybe because they felt safer. We didn’t do ski school, but have heard great things about it. Badger also leads snow-shoeing treks and cross-country if you aren’t into the downhill.

Boys !   At the visitor center.

Another fun Winter thing to do is just tooling around the village. They have a free valley floor shuttle that you can jump on to get between The Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge, Curry Village and the The Yosemite Visitor Center ( The Ansel Adam’s Gallery is there). There’s still a lot to see and do here at this time. One favorite was seeing Yosemite Falls hitting snow.  All the wonders -El Capitan, Half Dome, Yosemite Falls and Bridal-Veil falls, are easy to admire from the valley without a lot of hiking. This I really appreciated since I had my bum leg to contend with. We made sure we hit the Ansel Adams Gallery too. I bought a matted print for $25 as a memento of the trip, while the husband and I dreamed of owning some of the originals in there! The boys loved the interactive visitor center. It’s got some cool caves to climb through and the kids can learn about the wildlife and the original native people of the Yosemite Valley.

As far as lodging, well there are a few options.  The Yosemite Lodge, where we bunked is basic, but good for families. Make sure you ask for a lodge room, which is apparently, a bit bigger than the basics. With these you get a balcony -not fancy, but you may have a view of Half Dome! We stayed in the Hemlock wing, which was a good location, across from the main lobby, restaurants and bar. They have begun to upgrade slowly all 245 rooms to be LEED certified and green, which is terrific. So far, there are only 2 green units available, but you can find out more by clicking here. We were not lucky enough to get a green one. Be warned the walls are THIN! The first night was fine until some college kids came home next door around 12. After that I heard scratching on the window around 3 and opened the curtains to see a large raccoon staring right back at me! He was trying to get in I guess. After a few minute stare down he left ! The next two nights were blissfully quiet. Put it this way, you aren’t here to hang in your room, so for sleeping it’s fine. Better yet, as a girlfriend put it so well, “It’s better than camping”. I’ll leave it at that. Next time I’m going to check out the Ahwahnee lodging. There is also Curry Village which we did not investigate, but appears to be even more rustic.

My youngest checking out one of Ahwahnee’s fireplaces.

The Ahwahnee Hotel, is the historic stone and timber lodge. It’s a fun place to just stop and gawk. They have a cute bar to grab a drink and you can get chili and other easy meals. There’s a good store for overpriced keepsakes like Ahwahnee china and a sweet shop here too. We had our family Valentine’s dinner in the the famous dining room with tuxedoed waiters. The food was good, but actually not as good as the restaurant at the Mountain Room at Yosemite Lodge. I was a bit worried about dressing appropriately here and brought nice sweaters for the boys. No worries about that though, as a few diners looked like they just dragged themselves out of their tents. The vibe may be a bit more high-brow here, but the clientele is from all walks of life. The Ahwahnee may nicer, but the Lodge is just a bit more fun and young.

Just outside our room at Yosemite Lodge.

Yosemite Lodge has a cafeteria and with the play n’ stay package you get breakfast included there. The cafeteria is…well the name says it all. They do have excellent croissants if you can get one. You also can pick up snacks at the general store here to bring up to the mountain or on a hike. We bought cheese and a few other goodies and made a lunch out of it on the ski-days. They also have a bar that has a cool firepit and a casual menu. Next door at the Yosemite Lodge Mountain Room, you’ll see a  gorgeous view of Yosemite Falls and the food is fantastic. The wine list was also top-notch along with the service. Don’t miss their vegetarian lasagna. It’s the best I’ve ever had. We grabbed bites in the bar with the kids another night and brought the game UNO to play after by the fire. There are lots of families playing games in here and enjoying a drink or snack. Kids are not allowed after 9, but usually by then they are wiped out from the full day of fresh air! They also have live music some nights and next door in the community room, rangers give nightly nature talks. More info about all the dining I described Yosemite can be found if you click the mountain room link above.

Oh and one more note, don’t miss the Moscow Mules! If you don’t already know, it’s a yummy cocktail made famous by Oprah when she camped here last summer in her motor home. ( If you get a chance to catch the repeat it’s darn funny. I especially liked when Oprah squeezes the limes for everyone’s drinks with her teeth- you have to see it.)  The ingredients are a mix of ginger beer, lime and mint, oh and vodka. Anyhow, Yosemite has jumped on the mule bandwagon and is offering it all the restaurants. The best one is at Yosemite Lodge Bar!

Can you believe this was a phone pic? On the way up to Badger Pass.

Forgot to mention the crazy weather. We had sunny 65 degree days, and a day with a few snow flurries. The day we left to drive home they got 20 inches of snow that night! We just missed a huge storm. The weather in California can be so flaky like that! Can you say layers people! As Northern Californians, we’re all about that, but for the people visiting from farther out- well bring those fleeces!! The nights were BRRRR! You’ll go from shorts to ski-jackets in a matter of a few hours this time of year. We are planning another trip back, hopefully before Summer and some day I would like to visit in Fall again too.  The Fall is a wonderful time to bike here!

Not bathing suit ready yet..

March 19, 2011 By kimwheeler No Comments

My yummy Croque Monsieur and tea at Fleur de Cocoa.

Here in Bay Area, we’ve had a lot of beautiful days lately, so I don’t mind the rainy ones. It was extremely blustery today and our little court felt like Windy Corner. Trees were bending all over and the big Sequoia in my front yard was dangerously close to sending a branch through our front window.

I love hunkering down on these days. There are cats that need cuddling up to, tea to be savored and reading to be done, all while I watch the storm from my cozy couch. I blew off the gym, but I know warm weather is coming and I’ll be outside all the time soon.

A bright spot in this stormy day was that I got to enjoy lunch with the hubby. He’s off before he starts a new job and we squeezed a quick jaunt to my favorite little lunch place. Fleur de Cocoa. If you ever get to Los Gatos, it’s a small bit of France. They’re famous for their chocolate, but I love the Croque Monsieurs and the French onion soup is divine. It brought me back to Paris and the small cafes you squeeze into to duck out of the rain.

As you can imagine, this was not a low-fat day. We started out with bagels, the lunch and now husband is happily making beignets for the men of the house. The three of them were thick as thieves munching away on the doughy goodness as they watched the mindless Wipe-Out on the tube. They were full of snacky happiness, but I had to exit the room. The smell of grease and the show was too much. Somehow, watching Wipe-out makes me feel like I’m wasting what time I have on this planet! Ah, to be a man… It’s the little things that make ’em happy.

Sunday beach trip… We made it to Santa Cruz to c Sunday beach trip… We made it to Santa Cruz to check out the coast after these rough last weeks. Aptos looks pretty good and poor Seacliff is terribly battered. So sad to see what people have lost. My heart goes out to them.

We had the beach to ourselves and the weather was winter perfect. ☀️Cold and sunny. We had a picnic of sandwiches from Zoccolis deli and took in the sun and sea air while watching surfers and birds.

This song just seemed to fit -and relatable as I could not sleep last night! No idea why. Isn’t it maddening?

Hope you get a chance to take a winter beach walk.. They are the best.

Our dear friend Contessa @contessa_and_her_pig has Our dear friend Contessa @contessa_and_her_pig has been seriously sick and fortunately is back home now, but still struggling with pneumonia. If anyone wants to send her a snail mail note please dm me and I will share her address. She loves unique cards and pretty postcards you’ve saved from travel, so she would be thrilled to get a little note!

It seems like just yesterday we were in her gorgeous yard taking photos for my Californians at Home series. It’s still one of my favorite photo shoots and if you want to read it again -or missed it I will link to it in my bio today. She’s one of a kind, so let’s get her well soon and bolster her spirits!!💛💛

I have to share a snippet of just some of the wisd I have to share a snippet of just some of the wisdom that was Martin Luther King. He will always be one of my biggest heroes and ten years ago I wrote a small post highlighting some of his very meaningful words and quotes that we could all use as a life guide. Link to the post in my bio and more on my stories.

Do you know he is the only American to have a holiday for him that hasn’t been a president? He also had a low approval rating when he died. That has changed. Now people around the world use his teachings of living in peace and the fight for justice as a model we can strive for. I find his words so very needed in a world that is polarized more than ever. ❤️

It’s still raining here! In an effort to use som It’s still raining here! In an effort to use some beautiful citrus and boost morale, I made these chocolate chips with a California twist. They have orange and walnuts -and for fun I added macadamias from my Hawaii trip and coconut flakes. I also switched out brown sugar for moscavado which is less refined and had more depth and flavor. So far response has been thumbs up from the home crew!
The recipe and all the weekend fun- along with some cozy coats for this weather, and a recap of our SF meander are on the weekend blog. Juliet and Elizabeth also have great ideas this weekend.. links as always, in our bios or stories:

Just a little peek at some of the homes in San Fra Just a little peek at some of the homes in San Francisco’s Laurel Heights and a little walk through the Presidio to the Lyon Street Steps. We had an unbelievably beautiful day after so much rain and darkness. I highly recommend walking through this neighborhood, through The Presidio and grabbing lunch and checking out the lovely shops like the new Emily Joubert! The views are amazing all the way to the Golden Gate, and I am in love with all the beautiful homes of San Francisco. ❤️

Unearthed my Hunter’s and dusted them up! Bring Unearthed my Hunter’s and dusted them up! Bring it on, I am ready. I’m getting used to the rain, but this California girl is struggling with the gloom. How do people do it in the Pacific Northwest? Getting out for rainy day walks seems to help. Anyone else feel the same? I feel guilty for even mentioning it, with all the flooding and struggles so many are dealing with.
Today is good -as we have power, internet and for now, just drizzles.
