On this post pretty pools, Tory Burch summer accessories, a new technology for finding your perfect foundation, True Foods kitchen, a great shirt for dad’s, tips for staying cool in heat, and more..
How has your June been going? Well went back to cooler weather, which I can’t say I am hating. That was after a super hot day last Sunday where my poor doubles partner succumbed to the heat at tennis! Thankfully my sweet friend was okay, but she had passed out and the fire department came and paramedics took her to have more tests at the hospital. It frightened me and reminded all of us that we haven’t had much time to acclimate to the heat this year.
A few tips to stay cool in the heat
They told my friend at the hospital her potassium was lacking and so important. Not all sport drinks have a lot and the one she had been drinking, not so much. We both hydrated the day before too. Usually I have a hard time with heat. That morning I drank an EmergenC packet with some electrolytes at breakfast, ate a banana during the match and put an nuum electrolyte tablet in my water.. ( I also pack them for travel and they help hugely with jet lag, etc.) She said they recommended the Body Armor drink at the ER which has lots of potassium.. So if you’re out on a hot day look for that.

Another great tip from my friend Hang, freeze a shirt and let it melt on you. I knew our 12:30 match in 85 degree would be even hotter on a tennis court.. I’m not good with heat and get a throbbing head and palpitations. I wet a thin long sleeve shirt and rolled it up and placed in a ziplock bag in the freezer. By the second set, I put it on and it helped keep me cool..I would do this for a long walk or hike or as a spectator on a hot day. You can throw it in your bag and have it if the heat is too much. Very helpful! Anyone else have tips please share!
Two days later it was so windy here we couldn’t keep the balls in the court, so California weather continues to be wacky. I feel so badly for all those affected by the fires in Canada. We Californians have been there.
On My Radar..

I keep face spray on my desk all year long. Since the weather is getting hotter now, I really appreciate it. Just a few spritzes while I work really perks me up.. On the hottest days, I place it in the refrigerator. My latest is this spray by OSEA is filled with good for you sea minerals and comes in small size for travel as well..
I wrote a sandal post this week, and a day later spied these cuties at J.Crew. They come in white and gold and I just love how they have them displayed with all their striped bathing suit pieces!
New Technology to get the perfect shade foundation
I was at Sephora this week and tried a new technology to determine your exact skin match for all their brands. On their IPhones, the beauty advisors snap a up close pic of your skin. Did you know Sephora is a Silicon Valley start-up and tries to be on the edge of technology? I had no idea. Well, I am a convert because it worked great. I have hard to match skin with yellow undertones and redness from rosacea and sensitivity.. I wouldn’t not have thought this was the right color looking at the bottle! I now think have never had a better matched color.
I love ILIA’s Limitless Lash mascara, and I bought their Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40. I keep hearing people rave about it, and I needed a higher SPF going into summer. ILIA Skin Tint is vegan, for sensitive skin, and formulated without fragrance, a California brand made in the U.S.
This goes on beautifully and covers as well as treats the skin. I was told I am shade Formosa ST4, and they also helped me choose the Serum Concealer (both awesome), according to my skin photo, which they will now keep on my Sephora file, and can be referred back to anytime I shop! So helpful. No more swatching and going home with the wrong color.
Go into the store and do this if you can!
True Food Kitchen
This week I took a day to go to Stanford, my favorite mall. It’s a drive for me, but so nice as it’s all open air and always has the most lovely flowers. I met my friend Jeanne and we had lunch at True Foods Kitchen. I did not know it was founded by Dr Andrew Weil, who created the anti-inflammatory food pyramid! The food is excellent. They have locations all over the nation. In the Bay Area we have one in Palo Alto, and in Walnut Creek. The menu has something for everyone..
I like to try and replicate what I eat at home after and this was a good one for summer- the chopped salad. It consisted of apples, marcona almonds, jicama, dried cranberry, manchego cheese, farro, greens and champagne vinaigrette…So good.

I also LOVED their sparking apricot tea, which is black tea steeped with apricots and mixed with fizzy water and a little lemonade. I will be making that for summer..and apricot season is coming. I also would love to recreate the crudité plate.
Father’s Day
I am taking my dad to lunch and a little excursion to a garden this week for Father’s Day. He always wants shorts for working in the garden and I order him sunscreen usually!
For Max, I bought him a few things at Rails. I know I talked about the women’s clothes, but they also have some really nice men’s things. I bought him this Carson shirt with a wood cut look print. He can wear on vacation, dinners out and also to work. I’m trying to get him to buy nicer pieces. Talk about a capsule wardrobe.. Max lives a very edited life! I’m trying to be more like he is. I hope he likes it.
The men’s collection at Rails can be found here. They have some great t-shirts and trunks too.
Tory Burch Summer Accessories..
While at Stanford, I popped into Tory Burch to see a few things in person. I ended up buying three things that I shared on a short video on Instagram .

I have had my eye on this crochet tote for travel and the summer. The nice thing is it can fold in half in your luggage for travel and you can use it by the pool or as a shopper/tote all summer long. I opted for the black. It also comes in pink and tan. (They already sold out online at TB, I linked to Bloomies above which still has it.) J.Crew has a very similar one a bit less.

Are you a fan of terry cloth? I adore anything terry for summer. When we were small our grandmother would make us coverups and matching towels for the pool with the most wonderful terry cloths. Any time I see it, I am transported back to the 70’s. Tory has the cutest terry tote bag and I bought the zip pouch to go in my tote and hold sun essentials. (These also come in red and green.) Echo also has a pretty terry cloth bag here for less.

Lastly, I had my eye on these Kira tweed sandals . I wanted to try them on, and they were instantly comfy, but run large. I bought a half size down. Already I wore them with a pink shirt dress and a black t-shirt dress. The tweedy material picks up the colors. They come in a leather black and white as well. For a lower price point, Steve Madden has something close.

These three things are good additions to my summer look and I know I will use them all for multiple years.. So I’m thinking they were good investments.
Pretty Pools
I can’t get enough of pretty pools photos in summer and Veranda has 48 pools to swoon at.. It was hard to choose a favorite, but I really love this below from a home in Sea Island with a gorgeous cabana.
Mom’s Demand Action Meeting
This Sunday our Mom’s Demand Action/Everytown is having its first meeting for the new Los Gatos chapter. If you live in town and are wanting to get involved in this great organization, send me a note. I’m excited there are more and more chapters of this great organization coming together and there are chapters in every state. It’s going to take all the grass-roots we can muster to change the gun laws. I feel like this is one organization that is getting things done.
This was our Signature Style week for June and Cindy and I chatted about sandals. You can read my Summer Sandal Edit here and Cindy’s Sandal post here.

If you missed last weekend’s post, I shared my June must list, tomato garden tips from my dad, a charming California home refresh, pretty slip dresses, and my new bed I just ordered.
Thanks for stopping by and happy weekend!
